Just play tight and raise small pf and study 20xbb game. Tournaments are easy.

Mini challenge

In the next 30 days, I will do the following in preparation for some upcoming donkaments.

If I don't get them done, I won't play.

[ ] 20 hours of studying short stack play (other than shove/fold charts, can anyone recommend some good resources?)
[ ] Play 20 online donkaments for practice

Just play sngs and look at push/shove charts

Play hu and like 18 man or 9 man

I just played $5-15 SNGs before my first $1.5K donkament, and felt super comfortable once I got used to the buy-in. I was definitely a better pushbot than most of the field.

How would you describe the differences between field tendencies for the 2 formats? I imagine people give less of a **** online, but could also be more impatient live?

I found it remarkably similar. People got impatient live, but given the low buy-ins I was playing online, some recs always got in to **** it mode.

Basically, there are three games going. Levels one-x (three in WSOP $1.5K) when most players have 80BBs+ are like a nitty cash, game. Once average stacks are 25-60BBs, it plays a lot like a SNG online, with most raises being 2.2-2.5X and c-bets in the 1/3 pot range. Mixed in here are the folks who ended up short (and then later most players, who have under 25BBs, these folks basically never flat pre. They will either open or 3-bet shove. Finally, under 12BBs, it's all open-shoving.

The first day of every live mtt is soft, tbh I'd just play as many hu sngs as possible, they'll give you the most experience playing 50bb and less in a much shorter time.

There is surprisingly little MTT info on 2p2. Scrolled through a few threads and they seemed like the worse llsnl threads. Got the snapshove app pro version and the ranges seem way too loose (like 9 handed shipping A3s UTG for 20bbs). It's gunna be a long 20 hrs My Journey in Live Mid-High Stakes

you can click on miikka's name for a few other articles on short-stacked play (esp bb defense)

IMO, the mtt community is "better" about not training the competition then the cash game community.

The couple threads I've delved into seem to be occupied by those who are very bad, and trolls.

Fwiw, I've found FW's and Slim's MTT strat to be most helpful.

Weird... The edit did go...

Meant to say, imo, <25bb play should be very loose once antes are operating

Day 1 strat - don't be ****ing awful at poker
Day 2 strat- be less awful and win most flips
Day 3 strat- be a minuscule amount less awful and win all the flips

Depending on the buy ins and structures you're planning to play live you might be better off spending a few hundred/1k on the stars Sunday tournaments so you get a pretty decent structure instead of some shove fest.

Spent most of my studying session figuring how to use some feature in Pio. Sweet sweet victory in the end My Journey in Live Mid-High Stakes (okay wasn't that hard My Journey in Live Mid-High Stakes )

Now I know anyone who says Pio is too gto for live games is wrrrong (myself included, up until a few days ago). I need to do more of these study goals!

2/4 in online donkaments. This literally doesn't matter due to the BIs being tiny (just keeping score for fun). Ran deep in one but basically didn't profit anything because it was a bounty tourny and I didn't stack anyone My Journey in Live Mid-High Stakes

Gave 200nl a try online. Regs are more solid but still seems beatable so it'll def be something that I want to work towards. Didn't play very long because lost an AI early on to a bad reg and immediately felt the effect of being under rolled (didn't even sit him HU although quite tempted My Journey in Live Mid-High Stakes ). Probably will wait til I study and deposit more, will stick to 50nl and 100nl for now.

You are well rolled for live - why put yourself in a position to feel under rolled online for steaks that are significantly smaller? Is it a mindset thing?

Pio strat is "gto" cuz the opponent's strat is also "gto" right

But if you deviate your opponent's strategy from optimum (like basically every player) then you can find out your strategy to max exploit that..

And
Playing hands online helps me play live spots better, esp the HU ones. I also find that it helps with mental game as it makes the right squeezes/folds easier.
