Today I tilted pretty hard for the first time in a long time. I do not even think that it was poker related, but I think poker was the catalyst today. Have not been happy with my life for a while, so the only way to improve its quality is to make some changes. In fairness, I had a good weekend but it was a reminder to myself that there is so much more out there.

A lot of my frustration stems from the fact that I have been in school for the vast majority of my life and it is all I really know. I am currently majoring in a program that I could not give less of a **** about. The pressure I have placed on myself is pretty high, as I need to achieve top grades in courses I am extremely disinterested in. That can definitely be tough. The reason I cannot just drop out is because I would feel like it has all been a waste. Additionally, I need to complete my Bachelors degree so that I can move on to bigger and better things.

I had intramural soccer on Saturday and even though I was severely hungover, I was horribly out of shape. On top of that, I went to watch my club team play indoors (not playing club team this winter) and I immediately wished I was out there with them. It made me want to be better and strive for excellence.

Essentially, I have become extremely complacent and have settled to merely be content. No more.

I think you can find better bluff candidates than 88 otf but not the world. QT is prolly fine vs. Fun player.

Sucks that you continue to feel bad about your education. Is there a interesting master degree opening up as a result of this specific bachelor? Otherwise, why not switch to another kind/subject?

I'm over halfway finished this degree and I might as well do well in it before reapplying to law school. Otherwise, I'd probably be studying business right now. Thanks for the input man, really do appreciate it!

The month flew by, what else is new. For the most part, it is a month that I would like to put behind me and move on from. Although, towards the tail end of the month, I straightened out some life leaks (health, mentality, priorities). Therefore, the month may not have been something I'd draw up, but it progressed as it went on, which is positive. Here are some cliffs:

- Mental game was atrocious, tilted big time for first time in ages due to external frustration
- School took a bit of a back seat, but I will be prioritizing it now
- Health wise, cleaned up my diet and have been boozing less frequently (for now)
- Intramural soccer team started up, should be a fun season
- Dipped my toes in the market and tried my hand at some trading (went well)

Now for the poker...

✫ 50nl Zoom ✫

For some reason, I decided to jump into some cash games at 50nl zoom. I played primarily two tables, but at times I added a third. At times, I would grind two zoom tables and have hypers running as well, and I have concluded that it was sub optimal. It drew away my focus from the hypers to zoom and vice versa. At the beginning of this sample, I played exclusively two tables of zoom with nothing else on my screen and focused hard on each and every decision. I ran well and played well, which created a bit of a sense that I was crushing. Although, I quickly realized it was not the case. I found myself in tough spots constantly and had (and still have) clear leaks in my game. That is to be expected though. I will not even lie, but I absolutely spewed some stacks at certain points trying to be a hero. My stubborness got the best of me and I just bluffed off stacks and made inccorect calls and what not. The result was a bit of tilt. Therefore, I decided that I would just focus hard and get to 15k hands and call it quits for the month. Not sure where my future lies in terms of zoom, but for this sample, I played inconsistently and have no idea what my true winrrate is. At this point, I am just happy I profited from this format considering I played like a complete ape at times haha.

Evidently, I am concluding my month a few days early. The reason for this is that I have a big paper to write and two finals coming up shortly and I am unprepared as usual. I think it will be good to take a 2-3 week hiatus from poker in general. It will also be good to focus and prioritize my studies in order to finish off the semester strong. My last final is the 16th, so I do not plan on playing until then. Until then, take it easy!

Now, I know I said that I would not play poker until after my last exam, but I was honestly too bored haha. This past week consisted of going to class and seriously working hard on a twelve page paper. The other night, I managed to finish the paper and was very pleased with how hard I worked and how I prioritized school. I currently have two finals left, but thankfully they are spread out one week apart. Therefore, I plan to study hard for them and poker will obviously take the back seat as I originally stated. Although, admittedly, I was extremely bored and felt like I was just wasting time watching tv. I ended up loading up some poker and before I knew it, 3-4 hours had passed. So far so good, feel like I am playing well for the most part!

Just need to grind out the rest of school and then it will be the holidays!

Oh ya, I have been watching a lot of those live poker vlogs, and they have given me the itch to play live. In the new year, I will have to mix in some live for sure.

I recommend watching Andrew Neeme and Jake Cody for anyone wondering! Also Wheydacheese has some good content as well.

It has been a while since my last update so I definitely feel as though it is time to recap the past few weeks. Originally, I had decided to take time off from poker in order to close out the semester strong. For the most part, that was what occurred. However, I did find myself playing a sesh here and there as I was really bored at times. Anyways, I finished my last final on the 16th and was too tired to even go out this past weekend. Although, last night got pretty rowdy as some of my buddies from my club team decided to celebrate the end of the semester and hit up a world junior hockey game and get rowdy. I'm still feeling the effects of last night, I'll put it that way. Not sure how I did grades wise, but hopefully did well. Honestly, I do not have much faith or respect for some of the quality of work I have produced these past semesters. If I want to do better, that needs to change. Talk is cheap at this point though.

On the poker front, my PT4 has been giving me issues as it does not open sometimes because it gives me an error saying it cannot connect or something. It is very frustrating and I have yet to figure out what causes it to do that. My sharkystrator subscription ran out near the beginning of the month and I said **** it and did not renew it since I did not plan on grinding. I do plan on getting it back though. I somehow only had 500 on Stars and basically torched it all playing MTTs/Cash. So this is a negative month currently for me. Will legit have to grind hard to make it up. Ended up reloading on Stars which was a **** feeling as haven't had to do that in ages. Shoutout Stars for the exceedingly generous 1$ deposit bonus...I have considered taking a break from poker until the new year and enjoying the holidays but now that I am facing a negative month, it becomes less of a justifiable reality. Guess I'm just going to have to suck it up and grind hard.

Really looking forward to the new year and have lot to figure out over the holidays that's for sure. Hope everyone enjoys and I wish everyone a very happy holidays!

Ended up deciding to take a shot and play the 215$ Monday Million. Ran well in some spots, poorly in others. Overall decently happy with my play.

Busted bvb with AhAx on KJ4hh flop got it in against J6hh runout 3x6x gg. Cashed for 687$ so at least that gets back some of the cash I punted at MTTs/Cash earlier in the month.

Well, this month was very lackluster to say the least. I am not in the mood to revisit the past month and dwell on things, so I will make this short and sweet with more emphasis on the future. Just to clarify, I prioritized my university finals and papers for the majority of the month and I am still awaiting my results. That is why the poker volume is basically non existent.

In terms of cash/MTTs that I played, I ended up breaking even due to my cash in the Monday Milly. That shot pretty much saved my month from being negative and then I made sure to grind enough hypers as to not have a losing month as well.

Moving forward, I have set some goals for 2017 and am looking forward to what the year has to bring. The SL forum has a goals thread so I will just copy the goals for the year that I was planning to post there.

2017 Goals

1. Drop weight, get in shape
2. Graduate Political Science Bachelor with a good GPA
3. Have 25k in investments
4. Apply to Law Schools
5. Drop soft drinks unless it's for a mixer
6. Go on two trips/road trips
7. Learn to golf properly
8. Play live and build a cash bankroll

There we have it, if I achieve all of those things then I will personally consider 2017 a success! Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!

Cheers,

Elliott

I decided to load 100$ into 888 and 100$ into Party in order to try and run it up on the year playing some low stakes MTTs. Was not too hungover today, or at least did not feel as badly as I should have. Ended up playing a sesh that lasted much longer than anticipated because I ended up winning a very minuscule 888 tournament. Regardless of the dollar amount, honestly just felt good to play well today and win something. Was not planning on checking my results for hypers, but saw by accident and day did not go well, but that's just variance. Pretty happy with how the day went and the effort that I put in!

It was an interesting day of poker today. Admittedly, I was not feeling that great so I eased into the day by playing some small MTTs on 888. Eventually, after talking with some buddies, I decided that I should give spins a try. Maybe today was not the best day to try them out, but I played fewer than 20. At one point, action picked up in hypers so I stopped playing spins. As action died down, I had a splitting headache so I took off my headphones, stopped the music and crushed some Tylenol with water. I decide to load up two more spins and boom 4x and 25x lol. Brick the 4x HU and luckbox the 25x for a solid win. Apart from that, final tabled a 5$ MTT on 888 and came 6th for 85 ish. There was close to 400 up although I ran horribly at FT, but I will spare the details. Overall, a solid day of poker all things considered!

Most Expensive Chicken Caesar Salad I Ever Bought

Tonight I decided to dive into the live scene to kick it off for the year. At around roughly 6pm I decided to hit the road and drive to Playground Poker for the first time. What should have been a 20-25 minute drive ended up taking closer to 45-50 minutes. This is in part due to me missing my exit and then having to navigate through Montreal's horrible highway construction conditions and detours. Eventually, I was over the Mercier Bridge and swiftly entering into Kahnawake which is a native reservation. Honestly, I was not thrilled to be entering a native reserve, but that is where Playground Poker is located.

By the time I had registered for my player's card and my name was called to sit in a 1/2 game, it was 7:15 pm. The room itself is pretty big and it seems to have two sections, one for MTTs and one for cash games. All the food and drink is free with the exception of gratuity for the bombshell waitresses. Some of these girls were straight up dimes, no joke. I get to my table and a chip runner is called and I exchange my cash for these little monetary tokens. So without thinking, I just throw 200$ into the middle expecting the dealer to give me chips. He starts laughing and quickly gives them back telling me to wait because I had essentially just gone all in preflop without looking at my cards from UTG...woops

Fast forward an orbit or two and I over limp KJo (pretty weak of me, I know) from the B and then the BB pops it to 15 and next thing I know were going to the flop four ways. The flop comes out KK6r.

The young 16 year old looking aggressor cbets 30 into 65ish. The old timer at the table porting a hearing aid and virtually drooling flat calls. I elect to flat call as well. The turn is an irrelevant 3x and the kid checks and then the old timer basically launches his remaining 75 into the pot like...

I flat call and the young kid folds. The river brings a 10 and I show my hand and the old timer whips down KQs for the better kicker. Okay. Not a big deal just reload and keep playing.

Anyways, I reload back to table maximum at 1/2 which is 200. Not much happens, until an orbit or so later when the old timer opens for 12 UTG and I find myself on the button with KK and pop it to 30. After the dealer explains to him that I have 3bet him, he gets this monkey face and goes ham and just ships for ~175 or whatever he has.

I honestly just snap called him off because folding seemed preposterous to me so then the dealer goes to deal and I reveal my hand and old man jumps up somehow and slams his AA proudly on the table. Board runs out fine for him and he holds and starts racking up my chips like...

So at this point I'm like ****ing A, I should at least get some food here before I go busto. I cannot even be ****ed to see the menu at this point and just tell the waitress that I'd like a Chicken and Caesar Salad and a water. Now, at this point I am already reloading for what is essentially my last money that I brought with me and it has barely been an hour. I proceed to watch the old timer donk off my former chips for about an hour and a half.

A bit more time passes and I am slowly rebuilding my stack when I am dealt QQ and make it 8 from UTG. Sizing was too small and I probably should have made it 12-15. Anyways, this newcomer who was speaking idunno what language to his friend across the table makes it 20 from MP. Him and his buddy had been told to stop speaking their foreign language and it was honestly very clear that they were soft playing each other. The table watched them check to showdown when one had top pair and the other had a boat while they both giggled like little school girls. So now his buddy flats the 20 from the BB and they both have 100-120ish stacks so now I just think I'm ahead and shove on them. The 3better tanks and eventually calls and then the BB looks dazed and confused and decides to call as well. The board ran out like 10108r8x5x or something and I say no 10? They both shake their head and I show QQ, the original 3better mucks and I'm like nice, then the BB shows KK and I'm like...

At this point I'm left with 100 and my ****ing chicken caesar salad comes and I legit contemplated just giving the waitress my full stack and eating my meal then leaving. I was like I might as well give it to her before I punt this off, but I just gave her a redbird instead. I eventually run my little stack back up to 200 before getting fleeced on A83ddKx9x when I had A3o vs A8o in a 5 way limped pot. At this point I think I had 75 left and was just like okay this is my last orbit.

My very last hand I have my coat on and I'm ready to gtfo but wait...I get AxQs, gotta play it so pop it up to 10 fro UTG. Long story short, turn the nuts three ways on KJ410ddss and basically get it in vs Q6dd and river As comes and we chop. I picked up my 78$ and was like...

Result: 4 hours 15 minutes | -522$

Realistically, it is only 2-3 buyins and I'm not actually tilted, was just victim of a cold deck tonight. This is just my way of laughing it off and going back sometime in the future to seek my revenge.

Chicken Caesar Salad was good though, B+. Hell of a price though, 522$.

Ended up playing 1/2 live at Montreal Casino last night as I really wanted to get some hours in after my previous sesh at Playground Poker. Ended up buying in for 250 which is the max buyin at 1/2. Did not have many hands for the first hour or two and my stack dwindled. Eventually, I got into some hands and things worked out.

One hand there were two limpers and I had JJ in MP and I iso'd to 17 and everyone folded, the first limper flatted and the second limper shoved for ~50. I decided to flat the 50 and the first limper did the same. The flop was AJ4ss and the first limper checked to me with ~110-120 behind. I decided to bet 55 and they check-jammed and I snapped them off. First limper showed AKo and second limper had QQ I believe so held for a nice one there.

A while later this lanky mathematics Romanian looking guy bought in to my immediate left and I got into a few pots with him. The first one there was two limpers and I iso'd to 16 with QQ and the Romanian made it 36 and everyone folded back to me. I decided to just flat since he had maybe 150-175 behind (can't really remember). The flop came QJ10r so I check-jammed over his bet and he called off and turn was a 10 river was a blank and I scooped.

Maybe an orbit or so later I was on the B with J10dd and ended up calling 10$ preflop to see a 5 way flop. Flop came out J103cc and the action was Romanian bets 37, this quiet asian flatted and it folded to me and I made it 105. Romanian ends up tank calling saying "let's go" then asian tank folded and board ran out like 6x4x or something and I stacked him again before he called it quits for the night.

At this point, my stack was ~700ish and I got a few more hands of note that ended up with me giving some money back.

I woke up with KhKx on the B and iso'd to 18 over 4 limpers and they all called. Flop was Q107hh and I bet 50 and one donk called. The turn was an 8 and he checked to me and I thought about it and decided that I did not want to get check-raised off of my hand so I checked back. The river was a 6h and he donk jammed for like 120 and I just folded. Had no clue how he was playing, but later on saw he was LAG af playing hands with 52ss making backdoor flushes and **** lol.

The next hand I had QQ in the CO and iso'd over one limper to 15 and got two callers. One was an angry young Russian looking reg wearing a scarf and headphones (LOL), the other was the aforementioned donk. The flop was 1086s and the russian led 21 and I was sandwiched between the donk who was on the B and the Russian who was in the BB. So now I was unsure why he was leading and thought this board really could connect with his range so I decided just to flat and so did the donk. The turn was 9s and the Russian tank jams for like 130 and I pretty much snap folded and then the donk tank calls. The river was Kx and the Russian shows J10ss...and the donk had K9o and scooped. I was pretty surprised at what they showed up with and even though I would have won, I'm pretty much dead if one of them ever has a straight.

After that, I spent maybe the next 2-3 hours card dead and blinding down before I called it quits.

Result: 5 hours 30 minutes | +244$

I finally decided to shift my priorities and take university more seriously. After my last semester, I realized that my GPA is not as bad as I thought and that if I really focus on school, I can truly make some progress. With that said, this semester I am taking four classes, which is the norm for most university students (even though five is considered curriculum). Some of my classes I simply detest, but are mandatory for my major. This semester has started on a reasonable note as I have attended my courses for the most part and am almost on top of all my work.

Additionally, I have been going to the gym again and it feels good to get back to it. It is a great way to release negativity and clear your head. I also have taken solace in going in the sauna because you are just in there with your thoughts and sweat out some toxins. It is a good way to disconnect a bit and truly reflect. On top of that, I have been trying to drink more water as well.

Overall, there has been more balance in my life than before despite my social life sort of lacking as of late. I am not worried though, that will pick up as this trash weather clears out. Today was freezing rain and the roads were essentially ice. The traffic was a bordello and you could practically lace up some skates and make your way through the streets!

Anyways, poker has taken a bit of a back seat, but I have played two live sessions and look forward to playing more!

Played live 1/2 at Playground Poker yesterday night. Best hand I got the whole sesh was JJ and it was a misdeal...that kind of night. Grinded it out and ordered a margarita pizza which wasn't bad. Only really had one hand of note.

I was ordering from the waitress and action was on me in the BB and I looked down at A2o and it was a 6 way limped pot so I just elected to see the flop. The flop came out A59hh and I check-called a bet of 9 from this lady in the CO and we saw the turn 4 ways. The turn was a 2 and I checked and the lady now bet 25 with 32 left behind and guy in between us folded so action was on me with one guy behind covering me. I thought about just getting it in for her remaining 32 but I just flatted. River was Qx and she jammed and I called. Anyone play this differently?

Spoiler:
she had 55

It was a pretty good month overall regardless of poker. With the new year, came new goals and resolutions. Pretty surprised how balanced my life was, I guess social life basically suffered as a result though. I will just list some things that I did this month.

- been eating cleaner
- went cold turkey on soft drinks
- hitting gym 3-4 times/week
- went to most of my classes (taking 4)
- played live poker 3 times
- only drank alcohol twice

✫ 15$ Spins ✫

Finally decided to jump into these and give them a shot. I definitely think I have the skill level for higher stakes, but decided to learn the format at lower stakes first. Definitely a lot of work to do and there were a lot of games I just punted. My mental game needs work in terms of this format and I say that without regards to results. I just find I rush through some games sometimes instead of really focusing on making the best decisions. They are soft af so I will continue to grind them and probably play 30s sooner than later. My chip ev definitely could have been a lot better, but honestly it is not terrible for my first real go at spins despite the lack of a sample size. Hit 2 25x and binked one, lost HU in the other. Also, my first day grinding them the 180k hit while I was playing lol.

✫ 24$ Hypers ✫

✫ 36$ Hypers ✫

✫ 60$ Hypers ✫

Adding these in as a formality as I barely played any.

✫ All Hypers ✫

Overall graph of what my month looked like. Did a lot of reg battling and played sub par during many sessions. I honestly feel like I got worse this month. Just need to focus harder and give more of a ****.

[ ] 2000 Hypers
[ ] 3.5-5% evROI

Monthly Results

Spin Profit: 1605$
Hyper Profit: 909$
Rakeback: 322$
Total Profit: 2836$
------------------------
Challenge: 26264$

I should also mention that I basically stopped playing low stakes MTTs on other sites because even though I wanted to run it up, it did not work well with my schedule and was a distraction from my regular grind. Therefore, I basically scrapped that idea. Additionally, rather than add my live results to this thread on a monthly basis, I will just add it at the end of the year because no point in really totaling up 15 hours of live play. I am keeping track on my phone so I have the data anyways.

Moving forward, I have a lot of school work piling up and deadlines quickly approaching. Therefore, I will have to be more efficient with my time and poker will take a backseat like usual.

Thanks for reading,

Elliott

Played live tonight after class at playground poker and it didn't go that great. Played some 2/5 for a brief moment also.

1/2 was basically good for a bit before it turned into a nitfest and I couldn't connect or getting anything going so after a while I met up with a buddy from the forums who grinds 2/5 and I ended up leaving 1/2 to play 2/5 but very briefly as I was tired

I'll just post the notes I had from my phone here and the net result.

6:20
200

Another 70 add on

Got stacked J10ss on 1072ss turn 9c river 4s vs AKss on flop

Bought in another 200

Lost AKo vs JJ 120$ pot pre

In for 470 total
10:00 cashed out 168

And then 2/5 there was a complete maniac literally watched him torch 500$ 4 times within the hour but couldn't get anything going when he was involved (which was almost always). Anyways here's the only hand of note.

Had A5o on AJ6r I can't remember exact action but Chinese guy led 20 on flop I was only caller in a 6 way limped pot and turn was 7x and he checked I bet 35 trying to get to showdown and get thin value he called then river was Ax he checked I decided to bet 55 now and he raised to 150ish and I folded thinking he had 66

It was nice meeting u elliot, always interesting/fun meeting a fellow 2+2er irl

Live is pretty different to say the least... in terms of technical skills besides exploiting/maxing EV per hand, knowing how to play MW pots & deepstacked play like 200bb+ is crucial, that's the biggest difference between live & online you aren't going 5-way to the flop every hand and playing 300-400bb effective.

Live is slow for sure but i like the slow pace (as long as there is action tbh) because it gives me no excuse to play my absolute best/A-game and i don't get overwhelmed as easily like it'll give me time to think about how to play every single hand in my range vs. diff villain's who have obvious leaks/poorly constructed ranges etc...

Where would you recommend someone who wanted to get involved in hypers?

Another sesh at playground poker last night for some 1/2. Was treading water for the first few hours because my table wasn't great and I couldn't get much going. Eventually won a few minor pots and the table broke. My new table was better action and I got into some interesting spots. I'll just post the notes I took while playing.

9:45
200

12:05 table change cause it broke

Guy comes back from a break and posts 3 and there's like 8 in the pot and I'm on his direct left and on the B with A10o so over a couple limpers guy makes it 10 and I decide to pop it to 27 he calls

Flop A55hh he thinks he's on the button but it's me so I bet 25 and he check minraised to 50 I think about it and decide to call

Turn 8x he bets 70 which is effective jam I had like 90 and I just don't understand what he has here besides better Ax which is tough and some type of 5x which very unlikely for 1/2 so I get it in river Ax and I show a boat he mucks and starts saying he thought I played it like KK and it was weird line and I asked if he had like 32hh or some combo draw and he got mad looked at me like I was from diff planet then I remembered this isn't online

Then he says what I wouldn't play AJ like that? With these live players it's like a mad dash to get it in on the flop but as played I gave him rope by just flatting flop.

Yes my play was not standard and light for 1/2 but I thought he was light.

J10hh flatted in position vs EP 7 open he checked AQ7hh flop I bet 15 he called turn 5h he checked I bet 26 he raised 55 I jammed he called for like 90 more he had AQo river 9x

10 min break
