I figured it was time for a little bit of an update since it has been a while.

August has been a blur.

I told myself after July, that I would go all out in August and I definitely have taken advantage of Summer. When I checked my PT4, I was actually surprised that I had even grinded 1k games so far this month. It feels as though I have not put in a big sesh all month, and I guess I have not tbh. This month has definitely been more play than work haha.

Started the month on a 4 day bender where I went to a music festival, clubbing, and a friend's bbq. After that it was a lot of day time activities and hanging out with friends.

Just the other day, I went for lunch with some buddies and we went in at this sushi place where you pay a flat fee and just order off the menu until you are satisfied. We took full advantage. Here is a picture of the sushi we crushed that I pulled off of my snapchat.

Apart from that, I have taken a liking to the batting cages. It reminds me of the tilt room in 2M2M, satisfying when you make contact. Went to Walmart with my buddy in hopes of buying an inexpensive baseball bat - ended up dropping 50$ lol. I later picked up the biggest bottle of Jack Daniels that the liquor store had and that was another 70$. Kind of ridiculous how expensive alcohol is in Canada compared to the USA - definitely jelly. Bought the biggest bottle because it had the most value .

Anyways, hope to somehow grind out a good month and end Summer on a strong note, but who knows. I still have to make my school schedule, which is pretty bad because I should have had it finalized for at least a month now. Definitely need to get on that!

Coming off a very interesting weekend to say the least haha. Woke up today feeling the need to get my **** together somewhat. Watched UFC 202 and it was pretty sick, best one I have seen in a while and my buddies and I were all pumped. Hit some clubs and bars this weekend too, was definitely fun!

Worked on my university schedule as classes start September 6th for me. Going to have to put in major work this year as I will be taking four classes this semester. I could take more or less, but I think four will be the sweet spot for me.

Also played a decent sesh today where one very, very weak reg-fish played me maybe 35 times. To say he ran hot is an understatement. Nothing I can do but make best decisions that I can. Anyways, hoping to get in some decent volume to end out the month and finish Summer on a strong note.

Would also like to get back into having a better diet and get back on the fitness grind. My gym reopens around the same time as I will be back in school, so until then I will probably just hit some cardio and eat clean.

Damn. Did August even happen? It definitely felt like the shortest month of the year. Told myself that I would make the most of the month and for the most part I would say that I did. I think I had good overall life balance with the exception of physical activity and proper nutrition. Apart from that, it was an unreal month.

I will say that the last day of the month (yesterday), I grinded like a madman because I was adamant about achieving my minimum of 2k games in a month. Therefore, I put the heavy trance music on and got in the zone. I had to play 150 games to get it done and I am very glad that I pushed through, because I caught some serious heat. Possibly one of my best days ever from just hypers. In reality, 150 games/day is not even that much because if I were playing full time, I would be aiming for at least that number of games daily. With that said, I usually aim for 80-100 games/day, so happy that I did push through.

These are the lowest stakes that I have been playing and for the most part I am happy with how they have been going. At times some weak regs will sit me non stop, but it gets sorted out pretty quickly once they realize they do not have an edge. Beginning of the month, was running poorly and was like come on Stars, but caught some heat near end of month.

✫ 24$ Hypers ✫

Not too much to say about these, decent amount of reg battling, but obviously ran well, which definitely helps! Not great volume whatsoever though.

✫ 36$ Hypers ✫

Not much different to say about these in comparison to 24s. Obviously they are a bit tougher, but in my mind I play every game to the best of my ability for the most part. They went well, caught lot of heat on the last day of the month!

Overall graph of what my month looked like. For the most part when I check my results, I just check the overall graph because it seems to even out the variance at individual stakes, which is nice and good for mental game. Hit the bare minimum games I set for myself on the month, but glad I got it done. Had a decently long break-even stretch where I was playing well but running into standard situations a lot. Surprisingly, I only became frustrated for maybe 10 minutes at the tail end of one session. I quickly got over it though because it is part of the game. Good to run well too!

What a month. Enjoyed August to the fullest and developed some bad habits as a result. Although, I will quickly address those going forward. As much as I like to separate each month and time period up, it is all one big grind! It is good to separate by time periods for when I look back one day though. Therefore, I plan on doing another update to summarize how my Summer went overall, so stay tuned.

Moving forward, I need to get back into a routine as university is starting back up next week. My gym will be reopening as well and I will be signing up asap. Will feel good to get back on the grind and add more balance in my life. Less drinking and partying, more physical activity and study is what the doctor ordered at this point haha. Will be joining some intramural soccer leagues at school too, which should be fun.

Another good month in the books and I am looking forward to the end of Summer as Autumn is actually my favourite season .

Thanks for reading,

Elliott

Summer 16 - Work Hard, Play Hard

I can honestly say that overall, it was a good Summer. From a social perspective, I definitely had loads of fun and many great experiences. Unfortunately, I did not travel and my fitness/nutrition fell off once July hit. Naturally, this was a clear leak in my lifestyle, but there is no point dwelling on it. I will be making the necessary adjustments and chalking it up to going all out in August.

On the poker front, I definitely think that my volume should have been closer to 9-10k games, but that was not the case. It is tough to be playing daily when you are hungover multiple days per week. I am not one to just plug in serious volume for the sake of it. I want every game that I play to be meaningful in the sense that I am playing well and contributing to the highest possible EV manageable. Therefore, in spite of the lack of volume, I was happy with my overall EV, which says something about quality.

✫ 12$ Hypers ✫

Did not play very many of these and stopped playing them in August. Not much to say about them, pretty soft games for me, but was good for volume and bankroll building.

✫ 15$ Hypers ✫

Obviously I did not run the best at these stakes, but I am happy with my evROI even though I think it should be higher. They were very frustrating for a long time, but I just kept grinding and will continue to play them for added volume.

✫ 24$ Hypers ✫

I consider these my main stakes, but the volume is not always there, which is frustrating. That is why I tend to grind a lot of 15s and add 36s in as well. Cannot complain with this graph, feels good to have ran well.

✫ 36$ Hypers ✫

Only semi-recently started playing these stakes, but I am very comfortable at them and consider them my main stakes as well. It is a shame that the volume is not always there, but I ran well here also!

✫ All Hypers ✫

Overall graph of the Summer. Definitely like seeing it all in one to see how variance averages out. Solid evROI and decent overall volume. I think it is a somewhat solid combination of quality and quantity.

Total Profit: 7561$

On the last day of August, I felt a great sense of accomplishment once I checked my overall Summer results. I cannot express how good it felt to see that my evROI and actual ROI were somewhat similar. In such an uncertain game, it is very gratifying to be rewarded "accordingly".

Interestingly, the thought of being a full-time grinder has crossed my mind. I know that if I worked hard and did everything possible to better my game, I could make a respectable yearly salary. Although, I do not think that is in the cards for me as it is not the lifestyle that I want. It can be very tough working with nothing actually guaranteed. As I am currently a university student and have very few financial responsibilities, grinding poker is fantastic. Moving forward, I will continue to grind, but never with the intention of going full-time and solely dedicated.

This year it is extremely important for me to crush my university courses and boost my GPA as best that I can. I am essentially completing a degree in Political Science that I do not care very much for. Although, I am doing it as a stepping stone to apply for Law School, where my true interest lies. You can never be sure what the future has in store, but I am truly optimistic about where my life is headed.

Cheers,

Elliott

I was not planning on going out last night since I did not feel like drinking or anything. It was 10:15pm and I was bored so decided why not go play live at Montreal Casino. I got in the car and drove over, but it was frustrating because a lot of exits were closed off due to construction. Therefore, I had to reroute a few times and by the time I even got in the game it was 11:20...What would normally be a 20-25 minute drive was much longer due to construction and a line of cars to get in.

Anyways, sat down at 1/2 with 200 and proceeded to play well and slowly build my stack. At one point I squeezed over an optional straddle and a call with 1010 and got one caller to see a flop of 10102 haha fkn eh! Slow played and got some action too, which was good. Made a decent amount of hands and got paid. Felt good with how I played and cashed out after 3.5 hours with 510 so 310 profit. Not sure if I will include this into my thread as I rarely play live. With that said, I would like to play more live and build a roll. Will start tracking my live play in an app on my phone as well.

Pretty cool that NCAAF started so I will chill today and watch some Football as it is super good feels when season kicks off!

Yesterday before going out, I actually decided to combine all my aliases in my PT4 since my challenge started. The purpose of this was to summarize my results as my challenge has reached the one year mark already! Even though I know how much I have achieved towards my goal, I thought that an annual graph would be cool to look back on. Admittedly, I was surprised with how much rakeback, bonuses and some of my early MTT winnings added up though. With that said, this is what my graph looks like for just HUSNGs since my challenge began.

September 1st, 2015 to August 31st, 2016

Also for those wondering, the stakes vary from 10$-50$.

Pretty interesting weekend for me. Didn't play that much online poker but I did go to the casino to play live. Don't really want to spoil how it went since I posted a thread in Low stakes live forum. I will link it here as well.

http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...07&postcount=1

Apart from that, I fired a bunch of DFS NFL and I woke up today hoping to sweat it, but the power was out due to a windy storm. Ended up going to my intramural soccer league and then my club team had a scrimmage in which I also played. Pretty tired right now and just watching my Patriots as I write this.

Should be going to some classes this week as well so will be a busy one!

Got some good feedback on that live hand that I posted and I posted the results in that thread as well.

Apart from that, university is back in session and I was supposed to take four classes but I could not get into one of them. Therefore, I am only taking three, which is still okay. I guess I will have to make up for this lost time and take Summer courses. Anyways, went to class and bought some books and feel very motivated to get my **** together once again.

Will grind poker when I have time/feel like it, and work on my studies as a priority when necessary. Something I am going to be trying to improve on is simply attending class. I really need to boost my GPA which means I cannot afford to miss any information!
