hey could you break down a bit of your puerto vallarta life for me, either here or PM? I'm sure lots of mexi-regs read your blog as well, so could be cool for all and you've never really delved into it

Sea temp never gets below 75 even in winter, from little research it seems to be one of the best spots in mexico for warm water beginner/intermediate surf (besides Sept-Dec or so which is standard for that part of the world when swells pick up and the heavy hitters come for the big waves). Oaxaca/PE also looks decent, but further away and smaller city.

How touristy did you find PV to be overall? How pricey compared to Rosarito? One thing I'm slightly concerned about is the city being another cabo or cancun, overrun my gringos and the prices that come along with that. I'm guessing internet was pretty damn good there? Although I'm looking a bit more into just north of PV in sayulita or punta de mita - did you ever venture up there and any impressions?

You said PV was your favorite city to live in mexico thus far - basically just why?

Thanks, and gratz on the stable, I keep seeing your guys around. pretty sick to manage all that by yourself, you must have some excellent systems in place

amn good there?
So I should start by saying my apartment was in Zona Romantica, which is extremely gay-friendly and that makes some people uncomfortable. I didn't care. Sure, I'd occasionally get hit on, but to me it's the same as when a woman I find unattractive hits on me. At the end of the day, it's still a compliment and a few times the manner in which I was hit on was often over-the-top hilarious.

Zona Romantica didn't have one quintessential 'OMG I've got to eat there' place, but it did have a lot of good to great restaurants plus a lot of little local 'pop-up' vendors. The closest gym was definitely overpriced, but it had basically everything I'd need in a fitness center and was only a 10 minute walk. Often I'd walk there through the streets and then take a slightly longer route (15-20 minutes) back through the beach. Did I mention the beach was less than 5 minutes from my apartment? It was amazing.

I'm a wuss when it comes to water temperature, even the water in Socal was always too cold for me. I don't remember how warm/cold the water was in Playa, but PV's temperature was good. A few times I went to the gym and it was closed for random Mexican holidays I audibled and did my cardio on the beach, alternating between running on dry sand and ankle deep in the water.

PV didn't feel overly touristy, unlike in Playa where I couldn't walk down the street without people trying to sell me things. The city had a chill vibe, I enjoyed walking down the boardwalk, and there were a few days where I didn't see any other gringos.

Apartment was definitely more expensive than Rosa, but the food was about the same (and cheaper than PDC). Only had one problem with internet when the Telmex company made an unannounced visit to my complex and ripped out a bunch of wires from the wall. Gracias amigos!

Furthest north I went was Nuevo Vallarta with my parents, but was only there for the Dolphinarium. All I have is a photo of this photo.

Yes, I grew that mustache on purpose. Was trying to assimilate and look more Mexican. Somehow I just ended up looking like a creepy 40-year old pedo.

Don't listen to them man, the mustache is absolutely amazing, even Tom Selleck would be jealous of it if he saw it, and i'm dead serious here. I'm not gay but i find you super attractive with it, it is a shame that you shaved it. You should really reconsider and grow it back!!!

I've seen worse mustaches. Maybe consider making it a little shorter (shave the sides of it).

Ooh no, that sure as hell sounds insanly gay. Instead of 'super attractive' maybe you should have better gone for; cool, good, smooth, slick, awesome, nice or just about any other way of describing that you think it looks good on him besides ' super attractive'. This is just advice if your concerned at all about coming across gay, since you explicitly stated that you are not.

I'll watch it, but I feel like it'll make me feel worse about contributing to likely animal abuse. Saw a video about the treatment of tigers in Asia after I'd posed for pictures and it had a similar effect.

So I've lived in some of the more expensive areas of each location, but here are the apartment prices for each spot in Mexico:

Playa Del Carmen (2 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath): $2200
Rosarito/Primo Tapia (3 Bedroom, 3 Bath): $2400
Puerto Vallarta (2 Bedroom, 1 Bath): $1600

The apartment in PV was slightly worse quality than the other two, which I'd rank similarly. Only other 'living cost' was food and that was more expensive in Playa. Groceries about the same I think, but the stores in Rosa were kinda gross. Got to choose from a selection of dirty, rotten fruit. Maybe I was shopping at the wrong places.

Yeah, the intention wasn't to have a mustache that made me look 'good.' Just wanted it to be more of a funny conversation piece (in addition to helping me fit in to Mexico). If I was to grow it seriously, I'd certainly take Nefirmative's advice and shorten the sides. Also, I'd keep the entire thing shorter and let some other facial hair grow in for the rugged/mountain man kinda look.

Opinions are extremely polarized tho, some people have told me it looks amazing and others have told me it's the grossest thing they've ever seen and when am I going to 'shave that smelly caterpillar off your face.' What a supportive girlfriend.

About the same, I think. I wasn't keeping extensive notes, but each look had its own fan club -- different strokes for different folks, pun intended.

Of all the women I've ever consulted, only ONE liked the mustache look. Here's the last mustache pic I'll post for a while. Considering growing it back as a troll to a friend of mine in Philly, but that means I'd have to put my GF through a month of unhappiness.

Spoiler:

Forgot to provide an update for last month's results, so I'll give the short version -- 45 cEV, ~50 hours played, and +$7,000. Struggled with volume for a variety of reasons, namely the stable taking up so much time and a mental leak regarding a cEV downswing. Plus, I've had a hard time putting in long sessions since not being able to use HEM to track my cEV. I keep logging out of Stars, logging into HEM to check cEV, then closing HEM/restarting PS. Lather, rinse, repeat. Finally downloaded PT4 today so I'm hopeful it'll lead to more volume.

Also, on September 1st I flew out to California for one of my best friend's wedding. Was a groomsman so I got to spend most of my time chilling with the guys and drinking while the bridesmaids feverishly worked to get things ready. Had an incredible time at the wedding, lots of fun stories from that event including my parents getting waaayyyyy too drunk. At one point the wedding DJ asked (in front of everyone) if any couples had been married 50+ years, my Dad raised his hand although he and my Mom have only been married for 32. He told me later that he didn't think the guy would come up to him. Well, he did. Approached my Dad, asked what the secret was to a long-lasting marriage and in front of a somewhat conservative crowd, my Dad leaned in to the microphone and said:

Spoiler:
Druggggggggggggggs!

At the wedding

Stayed in California for a few days, then on September 8th the GF and I flew out to Vegas. My parents came too, altho they stayed at the Rio because it was comped. We stayed at Aria, spent the next four days playing -EV games, laying out by the pool, and stuffing our faces with delicious food. Was glorious.

Another excuse to wear the suit in the Aria Lobby

With family at Rao's (Italian)

Got back two nights ago, finally settling into my old routine, and hoping to turn back into that volume monster I was before. Would also be nice if someone from my stable could bink a COOP!

Thanks, possibly will grow it back in November!

I'm 6'1, the GF is 5'2 or so.

Seems like a good spot for a monthly recap. Unfortunately, these recaps are tending to be less about grinding and more about stable stuff/travels.

In addition to my 12-day holiday in California/Vegas, I also spent the 23rd-26th in San Diego for my 31st birthday. Had a really nice time, saw two Giants games and ate a whole bunch of good food. Went 'Cannoli hunting' in the Little Italy district, ate the best nigiri of my life (Sushi Otah), sampled a 'pancake flight' and filled up on some amazing tacos.

Between those two trips, only had 15 days to grind this month and I probably played about 8 of them. Stable continues to take up a ton of my time, each morning I wake up to countless Skype messages about hands, schedules, reloads, chops, and nonsensical stuff. And that's even with a stable manager! I don't mind being involved in the day-to-day happenings, in fact I love to sweat (Not ghost) the deep runs and converse with the horses about their grinds/lives. Unfortunately all of that definitely interferes with my own work product and at some point, I hope to find a better balance.

Still, I played ~25 hours and got in 800 games. Ended +$7500 after rakeback.

Got one more trip upcoming as I'm headed to Philly next week to celebrate a friend's birthday. After that tho, I'll come back and be ready to finish the year strong.

Updating is hard when there isn't much to update.

In danger of having my first losing month of the year, but I've got 3+ days left to turn it around. Started with a pretty big EV downer, managed to get the cEV up to ~40 chips/game and that's somehow despite losing from the HU BB where my lifetime winrate is like 5 BB/100. Not going to worry too much about the small sample.

More worried about volume, although I'm slowly finding my way back to being a grinder. Only 1250 games this month, but almost all of that is in the past two weeks. Still a meager output by my standards.

I've been blaming my lack of volume on the stable and despite my efforts to delegate more duties, I continue to have lots of work to do. Thankfully there are no more vacations on the horizon until 2017, which should help me end the year strong in regards to crushing volume. Well on pace to reach the profit goal I set at the beginning of this thread, so at least there's that.
