Hey all,

I'm here to prove something to myself: that I can move up the stakes online, using my skill and BRM. This challenge will be played on Ignition from strat to finish. I'll need to begin at the smallest games possible, and I've already decided to go with one dollar 6-max hypers as well as dollar HU turbos.

Lets look at the numbers then:

Summer's end is September 22, at 1pm my local time (PST). That gives me 96.5 days. I'll need to make $931 profit, so that's $9.65 per day.

It's going to take a lot of $1 sng grinding to get me to a point where I can move up to higher sngs. I'll mix in some $1 MTTs and maybe 5NL cash here and there after I get over say $125.

Time to get this going. Goal begins...now.

...this is gonna be a whole lot of fun. Can't wait to see if I'm capable of pulling this off.

There are a couple of pitfalls I would be weary of when setting a short term goal like this, especially so steep like $69-$1000. The first being that you don't practice proper BRM. Doubling a bankroll can take a while, and you're trying to increase it by 1500%. It's easy to cheat when you set steep goals. The other pitfall would be in your play, being more aggressive than you should be either folding people out by betting to much for value, or more importantly bluffing your way out of big pots too often. I know you'll probably say you're just going to find a way to be above that way of thinking, but we put ourselves in positions to fail when we try to accomplish too much in a short period of time.
I do wish you good luck though. I hope you can prove me wrong. Just my two cents.

Hey man, I really appreciate that detailed response. Your points were written well, and I do agree. There are pitfalls in taking on short term challenges. If there comes a point where I think this challenge will cost me money, I'll stop. The whole point in making this thread was to motivate myself to set and accomplish a reasonable goal. If you think this goal may be too lofty, you might be right. However, I'm going to try. All I'm risking is $69, and I think that's plenty of starting ammo for $1 sngs.

Cheers!

Rad! Thank you!

I'm happy to report that after a short session of 1.25 hours I'm up to $74 and change.

It's absolutely doable, especially when not adhering to a BRM strategy! I ran a $60 deposit to $900+ a few weeks ago. Cashed out $600 and then torched the rest taking shots at big MTTs.

This time I'm going the boring route. Still gonna reach $900+, biut it's gonna take longer this time.

Thanks for commenting, cheers!

Yeah with $25 theres not much you can do brm wise but I did the best I could. I played $1 sngs and then started mixing in some 2/5nl zone as my roll grew. Over $100 I started mixing in the occasional $3/$5 sng/mtt (so much EV here if youre decent), got my first bink not long after and the rest is history. If you can be patient and play these soft low buyin fields and not get doom switched you'll give yourself a chance.

At least you tried to use some BRM tactics. Pretty impressive to run $25 all the way to $5k. Definitely need to play wel and run well. Did you cash it all out?

Yeah, the $5 and $10 SNGs are very soft, and I'll consider mixing some $5s in once I get over say $150. I'm going to really try and protect this roll, as I'm not in a position to deposit a decent amount.

I'm out walking the dog, and the weather is perfect. It was a hot day here in the SF Bay Area, but now at 8pm it's lovely. What isn't lovely, is that my dog started limping randomly last night out of nowhere. We were chilling at home, and a couple of hours later he's in pain. I've been able to find out that it's his paw causing the pain, but can't find a foxtail or any cuts. I iced his paw for 20 minutes last night, and I'll do that again tonight. He seems to be limping less than last night, so I'll give it a couple of days. Fingers crossed its just a light sprain or something similar.

I'm planning on playing at least an hour tonight. Might play more, it depends if one of my lady friends wants to hangout or not. I sent a couple of texts, but they can be flakey so I won't hold my breath. Pretty rich, me calling someone else flakey. I'm one to talk. That's probably why these ladies and I understand each other.

Well, one of my ladies hit me up, and we're at the bar. I was running bad at 6max hypers anyways. Those are a ton of fun though! Really love playing hypers for some reason. Action!

Speaking of action, I better wrap up this update, or I won't be getting any action later tonight.

Last night was a bust, lol. I went out to the bar with that chick, and had to endure the company of her lame friends. And to top it off, I didnt even get laid. The definition of fail.

Back to poker. I'm not making the best progress in my challenge. Played 2 difderent hour long sessions so far, and made only $3. Profit without any volume, so not bad.

So I finally got a session started about a half hour ago. Gonna put in a couple of hours playing $1 hyper SNGs before bed.

Good new about my dog. I think he's showing improvement, And by that I mean he's limping less. I hope this means he's in less pain, and not that he's used to the same pain level. I'm going to keep a really close watch over him for the next couple of days.

Playing a couple of hours didn't happen, but I did play one hour. I was able to nudge the roll up to $77.40. This is going to be a long road. That said, I'm happy to be making at least some progress.

Thanks bro!

Ignition starts a promotion today: a $22 ticket for every 200 poker points earned. It only lasts for 54 or 56 days, can't remember exactly. Guys, remember to opt-in, if you play on Iggy!

Played another hour just now, and made a little money. Not gonna lie, bros...$1 hypers are super soft. That might be shocking, but trust me, it's true.

Days remaining in challenge: 93.5

Bankroll: $83.85

"Magic Number": $916.13

Amount completed to date: 1.6%

Out in my longest session of the challenge last night after work. A whopping 2 hours. I've been working pretty hard the past couple of weeks, so by the time I've eaten and walked my dog I'm pretty tired. No excuses, I made this goal, and I knew what the process would be.

Unfortunately, I don't have anything to show for last night's session. I ended up losing a tiny bit. Variance certainly wasn't on my side, and I'm still figuring out some of the trickier hyper 6max spots.

Days left: 92

Bankroll: $82.30

Magic Number: $917.30

Amount completed to date: 1.4%

Too bad Ignition doesn't offer SNG play from their mobile app. I can play at work for stretches, but I'm not rolled for even 5nl so far, and don't really want to short stack it.

It's been a long, tedious grind tonight! I've put in probably 3 hours, played 20ish hypers, and I'm up $2.40 after a disastrous start. I went from $82 to $70 very quickly, running very sick as hypers will go. I was able to ship 3 in a row right after that, and since then have been running somewhat normal. I'm taking a short break, and then maybe another few hypers before bed. I'm also 4.2% to a $22 bonus ticket. The roll is $84.70 going into the last part of tonight's session.

I haven't made any progress, unfortunately. I took about a week off, and prepared to move. It was a good thing I did, and the move went well. I'm currently at my buddy's house, playing a session. I've been in the $4k guarantee, with a $5.50 but in, 7,500 chips to start, and 20 minute levels for about 3 hours, and it's been running for 5. My roll is $80, with the MTT already paid for. Currently, I'm in 50th place out of 136. This is basically my Main Event right now. 99 players get paid, and I'm sitting on 52 bigs. Tournament has a great structure. Let's ship this one!
