hey guys. this is thelipofund back with my 2nd pgc thread. you can find my old thread here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...hread-1305705/. as before, ill update occasionally, with no real structure, and with whatever is on my mind. punctuation will be limited, as will capital letters.

my goal was to start this thread on black friday, to honor the 5 years... BUT, time is a bit of a tricky and un-exact thing for me. i ended up spending friday getting wasted in san diego. i started my day with a coffee full of jameson, and by 6pm i could barely see, let alone try to start a thread. saturday was also a busy day for me. i went dog shopping with my girlfriend, and adopted/rescued this little beauty:

Spoiler:

she's an amazing little pooch so far. but i have a lot to learn about being a pet owner, but i am looking forward to the process

i drove down to mexico saturday night. as of 10 days ago, i now have 2 apartments. one in ocean beach, san diego, and the other in tijuana, mexico. it is a roughly 27~ minute drive from my place in OB to my place in TJ. although its a bit longer going the other direction because you have to deal with the busiest border crossing in the world. it is a pretty sweet setup though, and im looking forward to having a life in america again while still being able to grind. ive wanted to pull the trigger on this move for a long time, but as someone who likes to procrastinate, i finally just got around to doing it. my plan for now is to grind sun-weds in mexico, while studying/coaching thurs/fri with saturdays off. of course this doesnt apply during series. and if i ever get the itch in america, action on bovada and wpn is as good as ever and im doing quite well on those networks

i started my sunday at 3.30am my time. not much has changed about the way i approach sundays. nothing makes me happier than getting up and at em, especially on the best day of the week. i built in quite a few things. cashed all 3 party 109s, went deep in the winamax 100 6m, cashed the megadeep, microgaming major, acr major and a bunch of midstakes classics. and had a legit sweat in the million. ended up losing 88 v q9 when a guy reshoved 27bb with 54 left. got rivered for a t3 stack and lost a9 v a4 3 hands later for the rest of my stack. that really stings playing on the own dime. had 85% of myself due to swaps, and you dont really get a lot of equity opportunities like that in a year. found myself breakeven with 4 games left on the screen, one of those typical sunday situations. WPN 300 was so good though, and re entry lasted forever, really couldnt quit firing. ended up firing 3 shells and bricking. had a medium stack in the nightly 162 approaching the bubble, and at the end of a 21 hr session, and more than 45 minutes of headsup, i ended up winning. i was really happy with that win. obviously the 9k is nice, but it feels good to hold my head up high and grind it out even when things didnt go my way for the entire 19 hours leading up to that final stretch. strangely enough the same thing happened the sunday before as well. i ended up shipping the 55 bounty builder at the end of a 20 hour session to pad my profit on the day

the longer i play poker, ive come to realize that is what sets me apart from others. or at least thats why i'm still around. i ****ing love the grind probably more than anybody. and i say that with no disrespect to anyone, because there are a lot of grinders i respect, and loves for the game i could never doubt. i admire anybody who has a passion for it. i dont think any of us would still be here day in and out without that

so enough of current events, let me try to catch you up on what all i've been up to since my last thread.

i went on my own 2 years ago and havent played backed since. makeup is now a thing of the past, and now all i have to worry about is how much my networth goes up or down. things got off to a pretty rocky start, but november/december of 2014 were the best months of my life financially. i had a string of huge scores including a 2nd in the XL series 1k on 888. things were really looking up

2015 i got more involved in my stable and coaching, as well as being coached. (i really enjoyed the coaching, within the stable and informally with friends. it has been amazing to see people close to me progress into some real monsters. im really looking forward to working with more people while in the USA)

for once in my life i let "grinding" not be my primary focus. i 6-8 tabled mostly highstakes for a majority of the year. i've never done worse in my life, albeit, a good amount of that was due to some severe run bad (power dying with 17 left in ST when i flopped TP2K facing a cbet really sums it up), as well as more 10-12ths than i can count in majors. i put in way too much work to make so little money actually playing, even after selling action to 1k+ events. though my EVBB was going up, my $$$ wasnt, nor was my happiness. the stable did well and i made some money there, but as the year progressed, my role changed and im now playing a much smaller part, which has freed up a lot of my time

i once again found myself at an all too familiar crossroads. what do i want out of poker? what am i trying to accomplish? ive made some major changes as of the last few months. i have about as much money as i've ever had, yet i find myself playing as low as i've ever played in the last 5 years (and probably less than 30% of my overall volume on stars). i realized what i want is to build wealth and i want to do it without exposing myself to too much risk or too much stress. there are a lot of ways to make money in this game, and ive worked myself back into a pretty stress-free, egoless niche where i dont need to sweat daily, weekly, or monthly results. this also frees a lot of my bankroll into liquid cash to make non-poker investments. im likely playing sites people dont touch, and games people have never heard of. the money has been steady though, and we are 4 months into the year without a losing month and a lot of close calls at big scores. it isnt glamorous, but it certainly beats grinding out makeup or swinging 5-10k a session

ill be back at it tomorrow. i have a couple good day2s on the french networks, which can hopefully make up for today's losses

best of luck to everyone

-marty

not really my day to start, though i still have 6 wpn games up and plan to load nightlies. man is wpn soft, but its expensive as hell with all the re entries. keep watching myself get buried for another entry lol

cashed both scoop mains on .fr. crushed both really hard in fact. lost jj to ak in the 500 last 11 tables for 110bb, which would have been a great stack obviously

also lost a cl pot in the 109BB when my AJ couldnt hold versus KJ flush draw on flop for boatloads of chips. f2t of the 75r on ipoker aq v kt. ft bubbled a small mtt on 888 in 10th aq v kj on qjx. and busted out of the night on stars really deep kj v ax jxxxA.

didnt really play many tables early to focus on the big stuff. my evbb was insane today and was very happy with the way i played everything. other than timing out with KK in a small turbo just after addon, id rate my play at 9/10. i try not to beat myself up over little misclicks that dont cost me anything, whereas other people i know would flip out

a few interesting hands from today:

was in the 109BB versus a top reg. i dont really have much fold equity, especially since he covers, but im really trying to get creative with bluff lines and i think this was a pretty good candidate and my range was definitely heavily favored. i prob bet a bit too big on turn, and im definitely overbluffing with the K in my hand, as any other 3x that doesnt block draws is better if i want to pull the trigger, but **** it i did it anyways, and after some consideration he folded

its no secret. my account is registered to my mexican address where i received my verification letter. thats just one part of the registration process though. the hurdle most people struggle with is having a european bank account to link to the account. ive traveled enough and spent time abroad to get that taken care of

i think a big part of being a professional is making sure all the best games are available to you. and i play on any network that has something worth playing and doesnt have cashout issues. i really take pride in that fact and dont really understand the people who try to get it done on just stars

man what a session. just ended 14 hours and 20 minutes of poker. quit regging pretty early into the nightly + bcp set and planned to meet one of my personal heroes (gramps on 2p2) for some beers at tap tuesday where all craft beers are 40 (2.30~) pesos a pint. its one of the best nights in TJ as all the craft beer bars run this promotion and it makes for great bar hopping. as an aside, i think there is really a lot of misinformation regarding TJ. I've lived here for close to 2 years now. i can walk around at night, never been mugged, robbed, shaken down, etc. the youth have taken the city over and taken the focus away from tourism and being reliant on US visitors. it is a great change. TJ one of my favorite cities in the world to eat in, and ive been all over. more food trucks here than anywhere ive been. not to mention taco stands and other good street foods. a few top notch restaurants as well. think TJ can really establish itself as a culinary destination and i look forward to it gaining prominence. i dont really understand why more relocated grinders dont live here.

got a stack in the smallest tournament i played all day and wasnt able to make it out for beers. ended up FT bubbling the 55 10k on bcp losing 2 huge flips. and was stuck 1 tabling the 44 8max for a couple of hours. play was joke soft though, among the worst ive ever seen, which makes sense given the size/buyin of the tournament. but it was really like going backwards in time. its also pretty sweet that 25% of the prizepool went to 1st and, and first was nearly 2x 2nd

ended up shipping it in pretty dramatic fashion:

Ur last thread was one of the, if not the best I've read on this forum.

I recently started adding more networks, currently playing on stars(eu+fr), party, 888 & winamax. Looking into iPoker now. Any other sites I should consider?

Do u use any software like Stack&Tile, TN etc?

And should I fold this river vs u?
