I played vs you yesterday and noticed you were the only one using 2.5x pre. Thoughts on why you are doing this. I know it's a standard practice in tourneys and sometimes an UTG open but you were using it from any position (UTG, MP and CO).

^ It's least standard from UTG. And it's pretty common nowadays for people to open 2.5x from everywhere and 2x BTN.

I think I started using <3bb open last year while Brokenstars was helping me with my game. If I remember correctly, it was something about if I open smaller, I can open a wider range since I risk less to to win the blinds.

It does have some other benefits though, when I get 3bet I save 0.5bb when I fold as opposed to if I had opened to 3bb then folded. Some players adjust their 3bet sizings to my opens, so their 3bet sizes are slightly smaller, which allows me to call a little wider with speculative hands since the spr postflop is larger.

I haven't studied on how the smaller sizing effects postflop. To me, it doesn't feel any different than opening 3bbs. My postflop play isn't affected by the smaller pot, I can still get all-in by rivers if I choose to. I'm not sure if I am getting floated more since bet sizes are slightly smaller so cheaper for villain to call, but I think the times I get floated/called light is due to the fact that I am very laggy.

From my experience, I think the EV difference between opening 3bb and 2.5bb is minuscule. I did toy around with smaller sizings like 2.2bb. With that sizing I did notice I was getting called more often and wasn't generating enough fold equity for some of my preflop openings to be break even, and was a bit harder to get all in by the river.

Yesterday's session which I posted some hands from was pretty brutal for me. I played some donkaments afterwards since there is a small tourney series, lost -$35. Played a 2nd cash game session for the 2nd happy hour of the day. Overall was -$200 yesterday, meh.

Not many hands on villain, they appear to be an aggrofish. They have been 3betting me extremely light in the past few orbits, 4b for value, was calling a 5b ship.


Preflop is meh, not sure how wide a range reg in MP is going to 3b. UTG is rec player, doesn't seem to be positionally aware though.
I don't like my turn bet for reasons, but I bet since villain sees me as spewtard and puts me on a wider range than I actually would have in this spot.

Been trying out new bet sizes and lines this month with some success, though I'll need to work with them more to polish it up.

So here's a hand where I overbet flop in a 3bp. I think x/c, x/r, and cbetting all have their merits but I prefer a cbet. I like all cbet sizes here, not sure how much I like this overbet in 3bp yet. Villain is 27/19/1.9af, Fv3b 43%, 4b 5.4%, Fvcbet3bp 50% over 2.5k hands. I'm not getting much value from the weakish part of villain's range, so I try to target the strong portion of it and put them in a tough spot (JT/Kx/Qx/FDs). I think the unusual flop sizing made villain spazz ship flop.

Kinda meh... One of my goals for this year is to be good enough/rolled enough to play 200nl+. Another goal of mine was to make $20k profit online this year, since last year I made $10k and I started at 10nl and was working on my game while moving up, so seems reasonable if I reg the 100nl+ this year with the same amount of volume.

Currently at $8.2k profits, so I need to average around $2.4k of profits for each of the remaining 5 months. The monetary goal comes in 2nd behind being able to reg 200nl+ for this year, though the whole point of me playing poker is to make a decent income with it. With the amount of time I invest into playing and studying, I'm not going to be happy with another $10k year as it just isn't worth my time for so little gain.

I was at 200nl on wsop, but I kept withdrawing so wasn't really able to stay at 200nl. For PS, I shot took 200nl last month/early this month and fell into a $3k downswing, worked my way back up this month, and am now shotting 200nl again, hopefully I'll be able to break through and stay there and prep myself for 500nl soon. If I get to that point, I may have to split my BR on different sites to get volume at midstakes, though playing multiple sites at once is annoying, and party/borgata + 888/wsop's software is so tilting compared to PS's. Not sure what RB is at party/borg since I never really played on those sites since they have such crappy software, but 888/wsop's RB is only like 13% which pales in comparison to PS's 33%.

Another example of why I can't ever successfully triple barrel bluff. Would take this line sometimes w/ <A high to make this villain type fold 66-TT, A2/A3

That last hand should be the reason you need to 3barrel more, people are floating you so wide. Interesting river sizing though, it's really nice vs fishy villains.
