When it rains, it pours. Genuinely felt bad for this guy:

Merge - $0.10 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 2 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

BB: $11.75
Hero (SB): $11.02

Hero posts SB $0.05, BB posts BB $0.10

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero has A A

Hero raises to $0.30, BB raises to $0.90, Hero raises to $2.25, BB raises to $11.75 and is all-in, Hero calls $8.77 and is all-in

Flop: ($22.04, 2 players) 4 5 J

Turn: ($22.04, 2 players) 2

River: ($22.04, 2 players) T

Spoiler:
BB shows A A (Flush, Jack High) (Pre 50%, Flop 32%, Turn 0%)
Hero shows A A (Flush, Ace High) (Pre 50%, Flop 68%, Turn 100%)
Hero wins $21.04

Dropping this here for my own future reference. Still haven't caught that elusive 10 buy-ins on one table, but it's coming.

Why the 3 year break and then the post? What happened to your grind? I play against you a lot at 25nl these days so I guess things are going ok for you. Good luck!

Hey thanks for popping in! Sorry for late reply, been out of town.

I've had 2 kids in the past 3 years, so yeah, that kinda put a damper on my poker playing and for sure shut down any keeping up with this. Threw the recent post in here since it had been a while since I made a run at 10 Buy-ins on one table, so just wanted to record that for my own amusement. Finding more time to play these days, and hopefully some day will get back to keeping up with what I'm studying and whatnot. It is nice to look back on progress and pitfalls, so I hope to do that again.

Yes, poker-wise, things have been going well. Feels like a super long stretch of run-good over the past month or so. Taking a few shots at 50nl over the past 3 weeks or so, but still have much to learn and not really comfortable there yet. It feels much better to have a deep roll at the 25nl levels.

Anyways, what's your merge SN? And good luck to you too, see you around!

Totally understand. Kids are a good thing. I'm **ATGVHG** on Merge. I'm a castaway from the FTP days (I have a retirement post in the old FTP regs thread from way back that provides my story in excruciating detail if you're interested). Just playing for fun now, trying to get up to the games that interest me as quickly as possible without completely disregarding bankroll management. Easier said than done, especially when you beat me in pots like you just did .

Good luck!

Found your retirement post (here for my future reference and anyone else who stumbles on this). Damn dude, I struggle when I have to drop down a level. I can only imagine what it's like for you. Grats on the success you've had playing already, that's a real achievement.

Would love to hear what you're studying now and what kind of plans you have, etc. Other than the fact you succeed in basically everything you do, I see a lot of similarities between us. Anyways, thanks again for popping in and I'll see you around.

Hah, "succeed" is a very subjective term. I really don't have it in me to fully commit to a grind online at this point. I sort of have the mindset now that if I can play a few tables while doing the dishes or use the mobile app to play when I have a few minutes on the train - and maybe multi-table for a few hours when the opportunity presents itself - then that's a way to have some fun and, if I get some run good, find a way over time to get up to 1-2 or 2-5. I don't worry about the quality of play as much as having the bankroll, and in this environment there is no way I'd deposit anywhere near the amount needed to play those games comfortably. So if I can grind some and luckbox a bit to get there, great, but no worries if I don't.

I mostly play live these days (2-5 at Foxwoods or a 2-5 home game). I've recently started meditating regularly and one of the key tenets to meditation is staying in the moment, which has been very useful for live poker. I have never been particularly good at identifying physical reads and tells, but the idea of staying in the moment and really paying attention to my surroundings has been eye opening. Even a dullard such as myself has found a way to pick up things that seem obvious once I started looking.

As far as what I'm studying these days, the one thing I'm doing is listening to The Breakdown by the Poker Guys podcast. Do you know it? Very insightful and analytical, and gets me thinking at a good theoretical level. Ultimately costs me money though since the concepts they are mostly talking about are rarely used at low level games, so I end up leveling myself into doing stupid things in the name of balance .
