I'm playing poker now for about three years. I started out like many of us. A friend showed me online poker and from the start I was hooked. I blew the first few buy in's quick although I started reading strategy on websites, forums and books soon after I started. I had no idea if I wanted to specialize myself in cashgames, S'n G's or MTT's. But soon I started becoming a winning player at MTT's and most books I read where on the subject of MTT's. Up till today I won about $10k with small- and midstakes MTT's online. But now something has changed.
Since a few months I'm the proud dad of a little girl named Liv (
) As we all know, playing MTT's takes a lot of time and some of us will know that taking care of your little girl takes up a lot of time as well. Besides that, I have a regular full time job. So I noticed a drop in the number of MTT's I can play and it's harder to keep up on the development of the game. A fellow MTT player recommended playing Turbo MTT's and S'n G's. In the past I already tried to grind the S'nG's and that didn't work out for me, as do the Turbo's.
So now I decided to start grinding Cashgames. Why? I'm able to play at least one hour every day and I'm capable of playing up to 12 tables at once. This means I can play somewhere between 750 to 2k hands a day. Okay, I know it ain't much for the pro-grinders, but I think it's acceptable for me. For me it's enough to learn the skills of the cashgames and become a (small) winning player.
There is only one problem. I get distracted quickly and don't always stick to the plan. After losing three buy in's or winning five, I get irrational and move up the stakes to soon or quit playing cashgames and return to the MTT's. So what's my plan? I want to start learning and grinding the cashgames at the microstakes. I started out with a bankroll of $100 on Pokerstars and want to grind my way up.
What did I do so far? I watched some Mt. Micro video's by Verneer, read up on the strategy at 2+2 and played 2 days of 12 tables at 5NL. What I have in mind is the following:
-Start with a roll of $100
-Play between 750 to 2k hands a day if possible on Full Ring tables
-On Wednesday's (my off-day at work), going through my HEM and watch video's.
-Everyday on my way to work, read books and online strategy forums on cashgames
-Move up in stakes only when: 1. I have at least 25 Buy In's for the higher stake and 2. played at least 25k hands at the current stake.
-Post my progress here on a regular basis
-Becoming a regular player at 50NL within a year
I am posting this because that way I hope I will stick to the plan and you guys are here to keep me in line.
Thanks so far for reading and if you have any thoughts, tips, things you would like to share, feel free! Later on I will post a screenshot of my first two days grinding the 5NL tables at Stars.
