im curious to what is the largest hand sample you have put together to estimate or set goal for your bb/100 in 2017. i know personally i have 100k samples at as high as 12bb, but dont have a single 200k sample over 6bb. and for me personally the ev and actual tend to merge around the 150k mark. just seems like 8/bb is a bit high

Solid first week of grinding, played 275 games in 5 days of grinding. Current schedule is waking up at 6am and grinding until somewhere in the afternoon, with monday morning being the exception where I'll get op at 4/5am in order to be able to play some extra sunday MTT's.

Ev has been going well and I've been playing a lot better than I did back in Europe. Altho I had a great time there, I realise now that it's better to take a month off and not play at all than to play a session every now and then for 10 weeks.
Despite some deep runs I didn't manage to get any real scores however, so I broke even over the week.

On a life note, I've decided to take another 1-year education visa so that I won't have to leave the country for the rest of the year unless I want to, hopefully I'll be able to at least understand and speak basic Thai before the year is over as well. I'll add that one to my list of goals for the year.

8bb/100 probably is high, especially if I still want to move up a little. I've never had 8+ in a 200k sample indeed, if I'm not mistaken I had about 6/100 in my last 200k of 2016.
I've seen others get it however so I guess it's just a matter of putting in a lot of hours studying and staying focused during sessions.

Hey guys,

Haven't updated for a while, mainly because I've been busy grinding and nothing too interesting happened last month anyway.

In my last update I was around breakeven and had just picked up my regular schedule again. I've been able to keep up with that schedule very well ever since, grinding 5 (sometimes 6) days a week, getting up early in the morning everyday.
Febuary however wasn't my luckiest month, in between getting food poisoning (twice), I ran up an 8k$ downswing. As the bad streak continued I decided to put a lot of time into studying, and at the start of march I was able to add some 82$/109$ games. The timing turned out to be pretty sweet, as evident in my graph of those games:

My hotrun got me out of my downswing within a couple of days, so my overall graph for the year currently looks like this (Excl. +1.5k$ on an untracked site):

My evBB over the last 2 months is sitting a little under 7, not the 8 that I set out for but definitely heading in the right direction.

As for my life goals:

I've read 2 books so far and am making my way through 3 others. Enjoying reading quite a lot and audiobooks even more, but I find myself often lacking the focus to sit down and read/listen after a 10-12 hour session. I'll try working on that and maybe using my off-days more productively.
I've been slacking on my gym goals, in between getting foodpoisoning and grinding a lot there have been weeks where I went 5 times and weeks where I didn't go at all, so much for the 'No excuses'. I'll have to push myself to either just push through after sessions or head into the gym right before I start grinding in the morning.

Also got a new roommate for my gf's birthday last week:

Hope your having a good time at Thailand. Your profit is kinda a little bad but in the long run your doing good. You just keep on playing and if your have time visit near by countries like Singapore, Philippines and Malaysia.

Accidentally misregged into the 162$ pacific rim instead of the 16$ today (Im allowed to play up to 109's ), turned out to have been a great misclick

March recap

After downswinging the first two months I went into march being a little pessimistic, I still have to get used to downswings as this was only my 2nd real downswing since I started playing mtt's fulltime. However that pessimism quickly faded after some quick results early in the month.
Having spent a lot of time studying in february, this month was more about putting in a lot of hours. This went really well for me, early on in the month I decided to stick to 6-tabling and see how that works out for me now that I'm adding higher games. Since there isn't that many games running in my timezone anyway, I felt like dropping the worst games and instead being more focused & keeping that focus for longer sessions might be the best route to go (+ the grind is more enjoyable that way). My volume turned out to be great, I ended up playing a little over 1k games this month, despite missing nearly a whole week because of the pup getting sick & having to go to the hospital. I even got Supernova for the first time

As for results, I got my first 5 figure month of the year when I add in the 1k$ Im up on a non-tracked site:

So for my $ goal before june I'm now at 46,756$/100,000$

As for my progress on my yearly goals:

[ ] Play 12.000 games 2700/12000
[ ] Have an average ROI of 33%+ 10%
[ ] Have an 8+ evBB total for the year, regardless the stakes I play 7.04/8
[ ] Read 25 books minimum 3/25, and about halfway through 3 others

As for my gym goals, it's been really on and off with life and grinds getting in the way. I've gone to the gym about 8 to 10 times this month, which is a little under the 3x per week but at least there's some consistency.

April Goals

The Winamax series are starting tomorrow so I'll be trying to capitalize on my recent rungood and play peak-times for a week. Meaning I'll start my sessions sometime between 6-9PM and reg regspeeds until around 2am or so. After that I'll be taking a couple of days off for the Thai new year. When that's over I'll be grinding regular times again until Scoop kicks off.

I'll just see where the grind takes me, I'll be looking to play 1k+ games again & stick to 6-tabling as much as possible.

Pics

Not much to share really since I haven't been on any trips since I got back, so I'll close with some dogpics.

It turned out she was infected with parvo, a deadly Virus, and so she had to be hooked up to an IV for 5 days straight (Guess that's the risk that comes with buying a cheap pup in Thailand ). My gf took a week off of work to stay with the pup all week from 8am-8pm, I spent a large part of the week there as well which is why I only got in 2 small sessions that week.
Anyways, she turned out well and has fully recovered by now, thankfully veterinary hospital costs are next to nothing in Thailand.

Playing daytime thai makes most sense unless there's a huge series. Its hard to get games but you get way weaker regs(7am-11am especially), much less bots(if theres any in MTTs). Smaller, more consistent paydays.

The better routine also will help making your game better.

Yea definitely agree. The EV of playing a higher Abi by grinding peak is probably a bit higher, but imo the difference doesn't make up for the advantages of health/social life/lower variance etc. for me personally.

April recap

After having a great month in march, april was a little less exciting in terms of poker.
Started off the month with a 5th place in the 44$ marathon, but after that it went downhill. I grinded peak sessions (starting between 6-9pm, grinding until 6-9am) during the winamax series without much succes. Didn't cash a single series event, but saved the week by ending it with a 5th place in the B109.

After the series I took a short week off because of the Thai new year, once that passed I grinded out morning sessions for the rest of the month without any scores.

Volume-wise I didn't get to 1k games (got about 850), 6-tabling works great when I grind off-peak but during peak sessions I get in very little volume because the games are way slower (especially the series events), in the future I'll stick to 8-tabling during peak so that I'll be able to get some more games in. During off-peak grinds I'll stick to 6-tabling with the eventual 7th table when I feel like it.
Overall I feel like I've played quite well, but had a lot of time off so not the most productive month in poker. Did have a lot of good times & was able to read 5 books tho, so can't really be dissappointed with April.

April graph:

So for my $ goal before june I'm now at 44,500$/100,000$ (I just need a little 50k bink during scoop )

As for my progress on my yearly goals:

[ ] Play 12.000 games 3600/12000
[ ] Have an ROI of 33%+ 6%
[ ] Have an 8+ evBB total for the year, regardless the stakes I play 6.05/8
[ ] Read 25 books minimum 8/25

May

Started off may quite well with my first session this morning with 4 ft's, in 2 of which I got HU:

A Little over 3k$ up total today, nice motivation boost right before scoop.

My poker plan for the month is to play a couple more sessions this week & do a lot of studying with some coaching sessions on top of that. I'll also try to devote more of my free-time to listening to poker podcasts/watching poker related videos to try and get the most out of this month with scoop and all. Starting sunday I'll be grinding peak-sessions until the end of scoop.

The week after scoop I've got a trip to Phuket planned, will check out some houses there and contemplate a move if I find something that I like. My lease ends next month & I'm getting a little tired of being in the same small room every day. Given that a 150m2+ house in a gated community is the same price as my 45m2 condo I want to at least look at the options. Not in a rush to get out of here tho so I'll just see what Phuket has to offer.

May Goals

[ ] Play 1000+ games
[ ] Go to the gym 4x/week
[ ] Ship some scoops

So scoop has kicked off and I've been playing night-sessions since saturday. The first night was rough but by now I've gotten pretty used to it.

Month started off pretty well with some off-peak sessions, since the last update I binked a 27$ hyper and came in second in a 22BB&44BB to make up for last months results.
On the first day of scoop I bricked almost everything but then my last reg-speed of the day I managed to bink a fourth place to make it a decent winning day after all.

Yesterday was a repeat of sunday but without the daysaver.

Downside of playing night-sessions is that when I take a day off I'll still have to stay up to 6/7am in order not to mess up my sleep-schedule again, so I'll try to limit my days off. Instead I'll put in a few shorter 6-table sessions & just take 1 day off per week.

Month to date:

Seen you mention you have had food poisoning like 3-4 times in the the last page i read. Are you eating street food alot? I had food poisoning multiple times here, once which was severe and had me on a iv in the hospital. Once i stopped eating street food havent had any food poisoning since.

I still eat Thai food i just stick to indoor stuff. Also do a ton of cooking at home. I know some people say they never get sick from street food but i know i do and have met others who are similar to me over the years and have had severe food poisoning from the street food.

Actually both times I got sick last year it was from western food, this year it was from a homecooked meal (probably undercooked chicken) & a local thai restaurant. I don't eat streetfood that much but I've never gotten sick from it either.

Cheers

Haha yea I've read several of those business books last year, tbh they're quite fun/easy to read, but they're nothing more than bundles of billionaire stories.

Not much to report on after the last couple of days. Feel like I've been playing very well, especially yesterday was a really good session focus/game-wise. Just haven't been able to create any runs, best result was a 12th place in the 50e monsterstack on winamax. Besides playing everyday I've probably spent 10-15 hours studying my game over the last week, so poker-wise it's been very productive.

Anyways, after 6 days of grinding it's time for a day off, gonna take my mind off of poker for the night & then come back tomorrow for probably another 6-days of grinding.

Just finished my sunday grind, got in 54 games which is decent but nothing really came from it besides some semi-deep runs.
So far I'm down about 6k$ this week, pretty much been dropping a steady 1k/day since monday.

Decided to play earlier sessions next week (starting around 1pm), to lower the variance and get a better sleepschedule. Grinding these times has been manageable so far but I'm really not looking forward to doing it for another week. I'll grind ~1pm until midnight for the rest of the week, and finish up the series with another full sunday grind next week.

Back to the off-peak grind, Got up at 11 today and managed to get in a quick gym-session, then started around 1pm. Went well with a 2nd in a 27psko, 10th in a 82BB and a 2nd place in the B82:

+2000$ day to make up for some of last weeks losses.

Will gradually start earlier throughout the week so that I can get up <4am on monday to catch the scoop main & some other sunday games.
