Decided to play this morning and came pretty close to a winning day, still pretty happy to basically breakeven with how I ran.

Ended up with 2 final tables, 22$ fo on party & a 35$ deepstack on 888. Came in short on both tables and ended up 9th in the 22$ & 6th in the 35$. Nothing more I could've done really.

Played my absolute A-game even tho I played a really short session, ev was once again pretty sick so definitely feel really good and confident about my game.
The only thing I can do now is keep my game going forward & start running better, pretty sure the good results will come soon.

Today's ev graph:

Day 33 (05/03)

So sunday was a bit of a disappointment. Ended up with4 tables left with decent stacks, all in the final 100 with the smallest having ~5k on top. However in line with how Ive been running I busted them one by one: 90th 27psko, 71st 55$ party main event (my first cash in a 55$ of 2016 ), 37th 27tko & finally after 10am 28th in the 11r.

Played a bit messy for the first 2 hours, had accidentaly fallen asleep around 11pm but had an alarm set for 1am. After i woke up I felt like sh*t and couldnt really focus but as time progressed my focus improved and I feel like I played pretty well. Ev is in line with that, be for the first part and then went straight up, 6bb/100 total so not too great.

Day 34 (06/03)

Total winnings: -196$

Just woke up and will do a new session soon since I dont want to grind through the night again

Meh another losing session. Made one final table (27 4-max psko) but was short and ended up with AJ < AQ for 15bb. cashed like 250$ in that tournament, also came in 10th of a 15$ deepstack after losing QQ<AA for 30bb and then losing the rest 88<95 for 12bb and a rivered 9.

evbb has been going up pretty nicely however, running 12bb/100 since the review session and I don't feel like I've played my A-game all this time:

Also had a groupcoaching session just now, pretty sweet to have a big leak of mine pointed out again so I have a lot of things to work on right now.

Day 35 (07/03)

Total winnings: -449$

Taking tomorrow off and playing Wednesday morning again, will review all my tagged hands tomorrow.

Winning session

Won today, all be It less than 100$, still feels good to be up for a change. Final tabled a 27tko, went on a tear and got 10ko's, then ended up open-shoving AK into KK for 11bb with 5 left. Got 330$ for 5th place but sucks to once again get unlucky when it matters.

Had a 1:1 session with my coach yesterday which was definitely insightful, it's really clear for me what to work on & how to work on it so that feels good for sure.

Felt like I played really well today, was able to apply a lot of things from the recent coaching sessions so the improvement was visible which is great. bb/100 was only at 6, however I lost a 150bb pot with KK<AA so that makes it hard to get a good bb/100 for the day. <100bb my winrate was at 10 so that's pretty decent.

Will get some rest and review a bit today, tomorrow I'll start play at 5 again (started at 8 today)

Day 36 (09/03)

Total winnings: 91$
Total profit 2016: 600$

Meh bad day. Played ok'ish, had a 2/3 hour part in the middle of my session where I lacked focus and I feel like that took my bb/100 down a bit (5 overall).

Made good volume (48 games), and got some deep runs but the end-stages went awful once again. Deepest runs:

4th 22$ FO party AK < AQ Pfai
16 left (15 itm) 35$ deep JJ<77 Pfai
20 left 5$ 2r1a AK < A9 for 40bb pot PFAI
20 left 3.5r JJ < AK for massive chiplead pfai

PT4 seems way off again so I'll update results at a later point, I'm guessing I lost somewhere in the region of 400$

Hey man nice thread! Took me a couple of days to read this all, it's a shame how past wee while had gone for you but you can turn it around!

I play pretty much the same stakes mtts as you just now and would like to point out a few things that I have noticed/ some of my own ideas.
You seemed to be doing really well on your own, not sure why you decided to get backed? The downswing has coincided with you joining the stable. Cos surely it's better to play lower stakes, weaker fields with all of yourself as opposed to higher stakes with a small % where you 1- might not feel too comfortable playing and 2- where the players are better.

Of course you can beat $55's or whatever but you've only been playing mtts for a couple months.

You should try out some new things in your session, when I play mtt's for a couple months straight sometimes I feel my game stagnates a bit and gets worse (level of play isn't great +less post flop play + almost auto piloting.)
Playing some cash for just a couple ideas can boost your confidence exponentially as you really get to get creative post flop, and can then take that over to mtts.

Generic mtt leaks. I've picked up on quite a few this year, I used to always say to myself aw this guys so bad he does min raises AA with 10 bbs otb and ships all of his range, all the while as I 3 bet shoved KQs lol. TAKE NOTES on stuff like this. Then next time you can exploitably fold. Mtt regs have lots of huge population tendency leaks, have you thought about these and what we concepts you can use to exploit them?

You said you have a RIO membership, I would suggest going right back to the start of Ben Sulsky's videos and watching every single one. Even though 90% are not mtt videos it made me think about the game in a whole new way. Vastly improved my HU from just watching him play, made me think more logically about poker decisions and not get nearly as emotional, gave me new ideas to try out during a session.
I mean, how many mtt players incorporate any kind of over bet strategy in to their game? Or a balanced turn leading range?
Prob hardly any.

Mtt regs in general mostly play the same, so play DIFFERENT!

As for your mind set you are stuck in what I call a losing mindset. I'm obviously not saying you're bad or anything, but it's your mindset that is.
Last year I decided to start reading again, I'm 22 and hasn't read a book in full for over 10 years. I bought the Dalai Lamas book called 'the art of happiness.' It made me approach life and poker from a totally new perspective. He is one of the most clever people in the world when it comes to the mind, happiness and training your mind to be able to achieve anything.
I read other books too on mentality and other stuff.

I took these steps cos I was doing what you were doing, I was JUST grinding and grinding. Making no changes to my good bar maybe watch a random mtt video that gave me no new ideas except that I needed to run better.

Sometimes after a week or whatever of losing I get a 'dirty mind' (not sexual lol) but I mean this that I go in to a session still thinking about last weeks losses, how much money I had in my account at its peak, how I CANT win. A year or two ago (been playing pro for just over 3 years) I went 10 months of losing after having 12 winning months in a row. Had i suddenly become terrible? Nope. But I has mentality leaks/ poker leaks/ life leaks and that cost me maybe $20k. (It's okay I bunked $20k back in a scoop lol.)
I was close to quitting, poker got me so angry and I couldn't win no matter what I did.

So I played one table of $2.50/5 zoom with 5.5k in my role (peak was 49k, although I did withdraw a lot) I still feel to this day if I'd lost that session I would have gone busto. I won like $750 (1.5 buy ins.)
Couple days later I used point I had to buy in to the Sunday Kickoff, I took 5th or so for $5k ish. Then I final tabled Big 22 for another 3k, was now up to like 15k from 5k and on verge of busto.
Then I take 4th in a $109 scoop for $20k. The next night I come 11th and pretty much final table bubble another scoop, $27 hugeeee field, for $1.1k when first was again $50k.

I made almost $30k that month, last May I think it was. After almost a year of losing every month.

Not bragging or anything, but just want to stress the importance of a CLEAN mind. Is have rather have a year of 2k winning months than 10 months of losing then win 30k.

So if you're still thinking of losses TAKE A FEW DAYS, OR A WEEK OFF. When you come back, it shouldn't feel like, aw I'm down $2k from my peak or whatever, it should be, okay if I win $1 today it will be good cos I'll be above where I started.
You have to reset your mind meter lol.

Anyway I'm rambling, I've just been thinking about mentality a lot and stuff around it, hope you get 1 or 2 things of benefit from what I said here. I don't usually go on this tbh I just liked your thread. Pm me if you wanna chat or anything.

GL BRO! And congrats on getting a gf already lol :P

Damn that's a long post, appreciate that you've taken the time to read the whole thread and give me advice.

First of all I definitely agree on that I might have some mental leaks (sometimes lack focus, 'insecure' about game etc.), and I do take steps to improve.
Second, you seem to think that I play higher stakes but I don't, I currently play up to 33s (the 55 last sunday was just because it's such good value). Before I joined the stable I was selling action for 55's and sometimes 82's on a daily basis. Effectively the stakes are the same for me, but I'm playing softer fields now.
Lastly it seems like your idea of me is that I'm just grinding away trying to turn this downswing around by making tons of volume, but the opposite is true. I put in daily study sessions, have coaching sessions with my backer & talk strategy with other players. Before I joined I had a really nice streak for the first 1.5 months of the year, with my biggest downswing being like 40-50 abi's.
at the time I definitely underestimated variance, thinking that I could grind the solid 4k/month at these stakes without any serious swings, I was obviously wrong. I saw some graphs yesterday of good players with 500+bi downswings, 300bi downswings are apparently really standard.
This means my current 150 abi downswing is really standard and I shouldn't worry too much about it as long as my winrate looks good.
Been talking to my backer about my ds/results and he looked into my db, my bb/100 of the month is still 10 overall which is apparently really solid (maybe even unsustainable for the current me). I really feel like I'm on the right track and all I can do is just continue down this path, my game has definitely changed significantly since I joined the stable and It's for the better no doubt.
In my last 1:1 coaching session we looked at hands from 1/2 months ago, and I was genuinely suprised by how bad some of my plays were.

& thanks, yea it's not a big accomplishment to find a gf in Thailand, but I'm definitely happy with her. First of all she's really great, second this year is all about poker and me becoming a player that beats mid-high stakes, so having a gf > grinding nana/tf big time.

Got a nice winning day today. Made 2 ft's, 3rd place in the 22$ fo on party for 271$, and 5th place in a 5r 2x turbo for 650ish (A7 < T9 SBvBB TTx9x gg). Too bad of the last hand but still a nice run.
Also made day 2 of the 11$ phase, came in 16th in a 22$ fo (15 itm). And had a really deep run in a 5r with 1.5k on top, was cl with like 30 left and then this: QQ<AJ - AT < QJ on AQxr - JJ < AA.

Day had more potential for sure but i'm satisfied

Overall, even tho I'm down 1k for the week, I would have to say it was a pretty good one. I got my confidence back and I feel like I'm playing really well, getting plenty of deep runs as well.
Also played 203 tournaments which Is pretty decent volume imo. bb/100 is 8 for the week which is good, especially since I feel like I'm on the wrong side of variance, plenty of coolers etc.

Day 38 (12/03)

yeah i understand everything you are saying, the downswing is totally standard, I'm not saying that you are playing bad or doing anything wrong with the poker side of things, cos everyone goes on downswings. I'm having bad month also, down like $2k or so. but just trying to play well cos that all we can do, really!

just thought id point out about the mindset thing cos for me i thought i was playing well for 10 months when i was losing, but i was playing out of my league (was playing $215s, $109s, $109 rebuys occasionally, $55 rebuys, actually done well at the $55 rebuys but that was about it lol.) but yeah with your coaching you are in a way better position to not make the same mistakes that i did so you def won't have a downswing that long. I'm sure you'll come out of it soon!

was just the losing mindset thing i thought id try point out cos I've had it lots of times, like going in to a session id jokingly say to my brother that i was going to lose again, but even jokingly its a bad thing to have in your mind.

haha maybe ill need to go to Thailand :P although I'm not really in to Asians, i think i like Dutch girls more hahaha.

Thanks heisenboom appreciate the feedback like I said, for now I think I'm fine but I'm always looking for ways to improve my mental game.

Ahh the good ol' dutch girl discussion, I'm gonna have to give my 2 cents on this

I agree with geefmede5, the things I mainly don't like about dutch girls is they're quite rude/boorish (lol this is actually a word apparently) and when I think about 'dutch girls' I think of the typical generic 'big blondes with loud mouths'.

These pictures are kind of what I think of when people say 'dutch girls' (Not the black girl obv) , they're also amongst the first google results when you look it up. Honestly this doesn't do anything for me, I'd choose a 170 pound jaimaican girl over this any day

Spoiler:

When I think of 'dutch models', doutzen kroes comes to mind. Not really my idea of 'sexy', just a bit generic.

Spoiler:

Spoiler:
in before 'gay'

I can see how maybe to foreigners this seems attractive, but really as someone who grew up here I don't like typical dutchies.
Ofcourse like any country there's gonna be plenty of really hot girls that are solid 9's/10's, for me it's mainly the non-blondes, but I wouldn't say the typical 'dutch characteristics' are beautiful/hot.

Clearly I'm really into Asian girls, but Spanish/latino girls are a close second for sure.
When foreigners talk about 'hot dutchies' I always wonder if they've ever even seen eastern European girls. In countries like Czech/Ukraine/Poland you can't go a minute of walking through the streets without seeing any stunning girls.

Imo no blonde dutch girl could ever compare to this

Spoiler:

Ofcourse this is just my opinion, not trying to offend anyone (dutch girls :P). The majority of the people I know don't like Asian girls, I love em tho ^^

First of all, I really love this thread and I read your updates weekly (did the same with your pokernews.nl thread)..
However, please stop refering to a downswing that easily. Now that you're at -150 abi it may be somewhat fair, but to call yourself in a downswing when you haven't binked in a week (after a bink) is just extremely silly. A downswing should be used when consistently running under EV, which in MTT's basicly means the period between your last ship and now is too long, you weren't expected to ship again that fast though.
That being said I for one like your mindset of "just do it" and I have a feeling you pick up stuff pretty fast, so I would like to ask you if you're interested in joining a skypegroup with me and another (dutch) MTT-reg..

Thanks for the feedback najfra and I appreciate it.

I see where you're coming from, in husng's whenever youd be losing its technically a downswing. In mtt's clearly youre not expected to win everyday, rather every once in a while you win big, in between youll be losing.

I definitely underestimated variance quite a bit, the fact that I was worried about being down 150bi's proves that aswell. Talked about it with my backr however and saw some insightful graphs, have a better understanding of the possibilities of downswings for sure.
Definitely in for any skype group, the more possibilities to improve the better. Ill shoot you a pm.
