Little bit of a come back last night, +£600 overall from NLHE and PLO combined at the private game.

No interesting hands at all really, lost 3 flips when all in pre flop ( well, 60/40 in my favour ) but then I had a hand where I was blessed.

UTG opened, I 3bet QQ, 3 people flat.

It's not a very interesting hand really from the get go, it just shows how normal poker 'logic' does not apply in these games. I would more than likely have to call his shove here with TP+ and the times he has a set I will feel like an idiot, but thankfully I had the nuts this time lol

Back to bham today to study, annnnnd prolly some online poker haha, although I really need to do some work. I have a module that all I know about is the title, so need to find out what it's on so i can revise for the exam xD

Posting this hand because atm i feel like the world is out to get me. The very same villain stacked off in a £1k pot with A9 on 9xx vs top set to another reg, after he got raised after leading otf then tank calling the jam of 5x.


I always just run into the tops of people's ranges, and then when I am on the right sides of coolers vs whales, they somehow either find the fold button or just get there. I in general hate people who complain about running bad, so I rarely do it, and if I do it's just generally as a needle to somebody else. I also find it seems to be the trait of a long term losing player who constantly moan about run-bad.

For me it seems just recently, since advancing so far with my online game, then returning to live and seeing so many +EV opportunities open up, and then rarely being rewarded for taking these risks at now higher stakes, that it's giving me a bit of a case of the blues !


Taking a day off of poker today, I'm going to finish janda's book or at least read and annotate as much as I can. My poker roll is currently running very low and I'm unsure as to what I am going to do about it. I am not one of these people with an ego problem that won't move down when they are getting crushed, I've done this a few times when I transitioned to online, but the big live games play like 5nl...yet variance is preventing me from having any success.

Anyway, too much complaining ITT. Listened to the 2p2 pokercast with Phil Galfond and him talk about downswings was very soothing for me, in a slightly sadistic way! If he, one of the best in the world, can doubt his ability at times, then it makes me feel better about my own game when things aren't going my way.

I think vs this player it's a standard c/c, i'm unsure about how good my turn bet is but given that i'm unlikely to get raised by a draw I think it's okish

Live poker is just sick coolers that you could shrug off if you got similar spots to those more than once/twice a night.

Ok so it's been over a week and a lot has happened so I will try my best to brief but I can tell you right now I'm not very good at that, however I will try and include some pictures to entertain those amongst you who have 0 attention span ( all of us ;D )

Monday & Wednesday

Private game in Manchester, finally starting to run well/average in the game. Right sides of coolers, and making some moves post flop against some of the people in the game who actually have a fold button.

Game is a 1-2 but depending on who's there it can get quite deep. Green chips = £25, also pretty baller it being on the 3xth floor! I don't wana get into too many specifics about how much I'm winning/losing in that game because some of the players in the game read this thread, I will say that despite a rocky start of losing quite a bit, I'm now winning a tad




Tuesday

Tuesday was my second time playing in the Liverpool game, for the same reasons as above, I'm gona somewhat intentionally be mysterious about how much I'm winning/losing. I will say that I got on the right end of two coolers, one was I flopped a flush and the other I flopped a straight. Pretty much have 0 fold equity in the game vs the people who are in each pot, so playing solid ABC vs the value, and avoiding confrontations with the other regulars is the name of the game.


Thursday & the Weekend

My friend (Nick) who plays in Manchester told me he was travelling down to London to play this weekend and that he was looking for somebody to share the costs of hotel/taxi , SNAP CALL. I've been taking shots at higher limit games where I think I'm BE vs the regs, and which have juicy fish, and where better place to continue this theme than in London.

On the first day (thursday) after travelling from Manchester and getting to London at 7pm, we checked in and headed straight to Vic to deposit and play. Nick went off to play PLO and I joined the 2/5 game where I bumped into another regular I had met in Manchester the week previous. Game was terrible so I left to go play 1/3. Bought in and somehow won a £800 pot with AK high in a weird spot where somebody basically overcalled then back raise 4bet my squeeze. Not complaining, but yeah it's probably because he saw me 3bet fold the hand previous, live regs and their 'reads' xD . Game went to **** so went to Hippo and Empire and basically repeated the process finishing up +£1200 on the day




Friday I was down £800 in the 1/3 game being on the wrong end of 2 coolers and then running into the nuts when I over bet the river as a bluff on 4 to a straight board. Luckily a 2/5(/10) started which was semi soft, a few very rocky regs, two good regulars, as well as 1 fish and a whale. Managed to make enough at that game to break even on the day. More chip porn!




SATURDAY

Special title because of the action! Began playing 2/5 at Vic and went up £500 playing pretty solid, then ran into the group of regs that play both broadway and london, and we went to hippo together. The 7 of us basically started 2 tables, one of which was a 2/5 which was playing pretty deep. I dropped £500 in a cooler vs a donk on the 1/2 deep, who then redoubled up via another cooler after which he snap quit. A little after transferring to the 2/5 my friend playing at Palm Beach text me saying that there were 2 whales on the table and to come asap.

I'd never played at PB, but holy **** I have never seen so much money in one place…in escapable wealth, it was amazing. Mayfair is the place to be! Back to poker, i bought into this 5/10/20 game and instantly doubled up by being on the right end of a cooler vs a reg. I then played pretty scared money tbh as it was kinda a big % of my roll on the table and only really 100BB, in a very aggressive game. I managed to win a few more small pots ( £800-1k each ) and then left after just two hours. I wish I had a bigger bank roll so that I could maximise EV but just the way it has to be, have to protect my roll! If I had stayed there was quite a high chance of me going busto in the game, just because as I said it was playing shallow due to straddles, and also the aggro regs driving the action.

A reg in manchester once complained at being given 1 single pink using the phrase " 1 pink chip isn't cool, you know what's cool? A stack of pinks!!! ". This is gona make me look like a fish, but I went to london to play higher limit games, and try and gamble up somewhat of a roll, and that's pretty much what I did.

After the game I went to hippo to meet up with Nick, and also to inform the broadway regs who were playing the 2/5, of the juicy game available and that if they are rolled/fancy a gamble like i did to go and take a shot! They said it went well so happy days all around : )

Just a small disclaimer, the PB game from what I've heard is usually very bad, and normally very deep stacked 5/10 or higher, I just lucked out that there were whales on a shortish stacked 5/10 game, and that I could get a seat! Ran pretty good all week and in general happy with poker atm. Who knew upswings were fun!?

I read the post where Deeepz went to London and posted a pic of all his cash winnings, gona do the same haha #brag. Gona post some HH's tomorrow probably, putting poker on hold for a while whilst I revise for uni exams, hard to balance them both so quitting one to concentrate, and then start full time again after they're over. Bit of a live read going on here, MP was pretty tight regfish, and I'd been inactive for over an hour. Tuesday game in Liverpool i missed 4 15 out draws and generally just leaked money

Thursday game i was invited to and drove 50 mins to get there, to find that the main reason for going aka this one player, was playing 3 handed 5/10 with 2 other regs. I play with all 3 of them on the Tuesday game so them saying 'no you can't play' was very frustrating due to the long drive...

I wouldn't have minded so much but they invited one or two of the players on my table to play, who both refused saying the game was playing too big...**** such a juicy game Not sure the exact reason they didn't want me in the game, they said it was because I play 'too tight' but I'm either being trolled or they don't understand the difference between 10 handed and 3 handed poker...

The guys in the game are smart, so I presume they just wanted all the value to themselves...


On a more positive note, the game I played in was decent for a bit, also met with 'Mr Blonde' . Ended down a few hundred after running bad when all in, as well as horrendous flops/boards in 3bet pots. Happy with how I played overall, played my standard more balanced lines vs the regs, and made some super exploitable calls/folds vs the fish.

As for uni, been back 4 days now, spent 3 of the 4 days in the library doing 5k~ words combined between 2 essays. Exam next Friday (9th) which I will begin studying for soon, with 5 exams to follow.

Thought when I was back in Birmingham I would be able to do half and half between poker and uni work. This is not the case as I find when I'm working my brain is taking in so much new information it's pretty fried by the end of the day, so playing poker prolly a bad idea. I guess this is somewhat of a goodbye for now then I guess since no poker updates will be posted until June, however from June onwards I will be pushing for a poker intensive summer.

Goals

[ ] Complete exams to the best of my ability
[ ] Not play any poker until after exams
[ ] Restrain myself from random consumerism spew

As soon as i saw that image i was about to go full parent ****** in thread telling you how student loan is not for poker degening, but then obv read what you wrote and obv you have a decent approach to life/studying. So well played.

Not long till end of academic year.

The studying hustle will give you the work ethic you need for an magical summer grind plus... 2 month break for poker will make you thirsty for it. Ban on all poker/videos/2+2/studying material until your Summer Ball imo. Then watch a bit of tv poker whilst till banned as foreplay. Then spunk your load Day 1.
