Starting this thread to post pictures I consider interesting, as well as to keep a kind of blog of what I'm up to in my poker life.

Bit about me

21 y/o university student here in the UK at Birmingham. Have played live poker for around a year now and have around 800~ hours. Beginning of November I decided to start playing online as well due to live poker taking up a lot of my time and ruining my sleep pattern! Started at 25nl had to drop down to 10nl, beat that moved up, beat 25nl and now started playing 100nl zoom.


Goals

• Keep thread updated

• Supernova by end of 2014

• £50k total profit for 2014 w/ combined live and online winnings

• Be more frugal irl so I can play the higher PLO games live w/ decent BRM

View on BRM/online poker

Due to starting with a tiny roll for live poker and building it by firstly grinding the £100 buyin games and now playing the £500/1k buyin NLHE and PLO games, when transitioning to online due to being 'overolled' for the limits, I simply moved up/down depending on how I felt when playing that limit. If I thought i was getting crushed I moved down to learn and if I thought I could beat the game I would put in a decent sample to make sure I was a winner then move up.

I play zoom because I predominantly play online poker to get better AT poker, not to bum hunt for pure profit! I think this might be more profitable long term due to gaining a greater understanding for the game by playing against regs a lot and having to improve constantly to beat the games and move up.

Think I played decent overall, ran horrendous for first 3k~ hands set over set multiple times AK into AA etc then had a mini heater where i could do no wrong, then went a lil card dead and started spewing a bit so i stopped :P

I think I prefer 100nl to any stake I've played so far, just things see to go according to plan ie the regs do what i expect them to do and even the fish play ball sometimes!


I think this hand is semi-standard for me at least although otr i did pause for thought as to if roles were reversed I would fold anything at all as simply EVERYTHING missed on like the wettest board ever...anybody got some good arguments for giving up?

5.2k/7.5k for plat might have to play more than usual to get it done due to my hiatus in live pokers

as for 100nl i obv ran good but think i played decent too got away from some coolers losing the minimum and took pots away from regs in certain spots. accidentally nit rolled another reg in a kinda big pot, was thinking of raising the river for value so time banked down thinking about it then wimped out and called his river bet instead, so if you're reading this then sos!

not the greatest of samples for either stakes tbh but as i said I just move up/down depending on how i feel whilst playing. When i first played 25nl i got crushed and felt outclassed so dropped down to learn at 10nl, then made decent progress and then did better at 25nl

Discussed it with a friend of mine who I respect a lot and he thinks I should be 4bet or folding in this spot. Not sure I agree as I think in this situation ranges all around are very strong ( although I may be being a bit results orientated ).

I don't see the point of cold 4betting queens here as it looks really strong so the jam will be KK+ very often imo. Given that I wana be flatting in this spot some of the time need help constructing a range, here's what I've come up with so far:

I think what I'm doing with AA/KK/QQ is decent but unsure how to work in AKo/JJ/TT as at the moment i'm just open mucking JJ/TT which is really nitty...cold 4betting seems bad but then if I flat it I'd want to be cold 4betting AKo otherwise flatting range kinda wide....

I tend to 4bet QQs in that spot...it is kinda gross spot but your thought process is very good explaining why you played it that way...

But i have one question,if you believe ranges are all around very strong as you say then you play QQs for set mining in spots like that??

Why not call on J86 flop???

i think on like a 9 high or 8 high board i'd call but J high is just gross imo...

and you bring up a good point there are obviously some situations where i can get the money in post flop good but they are few... for example UTG has AK and CO has JJ, and being IP means i can play pretty well with lots of info. i guess what im saying is i don't feel like i'm set mining although a lot of the time I will be up against a bigger pair here, but that some % of the time i can get the money in good postflop, i'm getting nearly correct odds to call pre with tiny implied when i do hit my set, and reason i didn't go all in this time is because the board is bad

I mean it looks like I will have Jacks in this spot pretty often, cold call 3bet, flat 4bet...and then somebody is betting into me? I'm not sure on their plays but to me I just don't see villain bluffing very often/ever and if he is bluffing it's with AKdd ie flipping at best

I think i prefer 4bet folding with AKo than with QQ. As for your second question not sure...CO betting at all is weird tbh like if it's a fish then yeah but both these guys were regs, makes little sense to bet with anything that QQ are ahead of excluding like maybe JJ/TT as a kinda protect bet vs turn cards, but yeah idk this situation messes with my mind haha I overthink things, level myself, and then i'm back at square one getting stacked xD

Few weird spots today, the EV difference is from where I won QQ v KK and then AK v JJ hit on both run outs so yah should balance out long term

redline really nose diving today. not sure why I just kept betting into people with draws 3 streets then get raised otr and have to fold my 8 high or w/e... meh!

Ran disgraceful for first 2.5k hands today, not only did i not hit any hands, all my river bluffs got called. I looked it up in HM2 and 100% of the time when I bet river I was called, which is pretty sick when you think about it. Shows that overall 100nl is still full of call happy ******s and so playing an exploitative nutted range for betting rivers is prolly the best way to make money in these games.. : (
