It's 11AM, I've been up for 20 hours, played 3k hands online, 12 hours of live and somehow I'm still on twoplustwo reading PGC's and poker blogs rather than sleeping
After reading through old posts in other people's pgcs/blogs and seeing their progression it made me want to start posting again, and not in some new thread that I may end up failing to update, but in the one I started in the beginning, this one!
So, I guess it's time for an update!
Moved to London
I finished my degree and decided that if I want to take poker seriously then London is the place to be. After getting back from Vegas last summer I started taking regular trips to London using airbnb to scope out the games and what I saw in contrast to the rest of the UK made my mind up instantly.
I got chatting with another reg on the game at hippo who was in an identical situation to me (from up north and looking to move down due to sick games) and we decided to look for a place straight away and ended up taking the first place we could find. It was a shoddy (for the price) two bed in Clapham but it didn’t matter because we both spent 60h a week at least grinding live, so it did the job just fine!
6 months down the line however we got forced to move which was a blessing in disguise as now we are in a fantastic 3 bed for a similar price to what we were paying previously but with a much higher standard of living! The third guy we are living with is an old friend of mine from online who has also moved to London to grind live, which works really well as I can’t imagine living with somebody on a normal schedule, having to worry about noise, coming in late etc..
With regards to living in London, whilst a lot of my friends from uni/school live here also, meet ups are inevitably few and far between, so the people I see the most are the guys I play with. There’s a really cool community of about 20 people who I’d class myself as friendly with, and there’s usually a casual meet up/night out once a month which can be messy
Managed to meet a bunch of guys from twoplustwo who are online and live grinders, it's nice to put a face to a sn. In particular most recently BigAsiaOK and day’n’night who I’ve chatted with on threads/pm/skype since as early as Feb 2014 but didn’t know in person until a couple of months ago!
Live Poker
Since coming to London things have gone better than I could ever have hoped for. Whilst I do play both online and live, live is by far my main game and consumes the majority of my time. It’s a massive time sink but is also accountable for almost all of my earnings so I guess that’s a fair trade-off! In terms of results I’m very happy with where I’m at right now. I’ve been feeling really good about my game which has been helped massively by things going well at the right times! I’ve been taking some shots at some of the larger games a lot of which have been going in my favour.
In February I travelled to Vegas/LA for the Superbowl/LAPC where, although I got off to a rough start, I ended up having a nice little upswing in arguably the softest games in the world. A lot of the London grinders who I went with have applied for 6 month visa’s to go back and many are planning their next trips or have already been back since!
I’m currently on the fence with regards to going to Macau to check out the action there. I personally probably won’t be going to Vegas for summer because I despise tournaments and it’s the worst time of the year to grind cash there. Oh and speaking of tournaments time for a bit of bragging
After a bizarre series of events I somehow ended up final tabling a live mtt for a six figure score! As impressive as that is to say, I had of course sold a bunch of action but still nice boost none the less.
Online Poker
Online has been a mixed bag since coming to London, by which I mean I am generally winning at 100z and losing it all back at 200z. This is something I find infuriating! I feel like I am winning in 200z and from reviews from people who I consider to be crushing the field they say I am playing well, but I can’t make the green line on the graph go up! I am down a staggering amount at 200z in a fairly short time frame and I am not ashamed to admit my confidence has taken a knock.
In the last 6 months the zoom pools seemed to have really stepped up their game. When I started 100z I would just 3b and cbet 33% psb mindlessly and get a staggering amount of folds. This caused me to be able to produce a graph like this:
However either I’m running worse, or the field has adjusted to the smaller sizings that were far less prevalent 6 months ago than they are today. I’d bet it’s a small amount of the first, and a lot of the latter.
The flip side to this means I’m working on my game harder than ever, trying to solve every spot I can think of by running a bunch of scripts and chatting through hands with guys who I think are really good.
Future Content
A bunch of guys who I met in London who enjoyed this pgc previously asked me why I stopped updating. The main reason was because I made the error of posting information about live games in the north which then spread to people in the game and blew up in my face. Whilst I didn’t say anything negative or derogatory about anybody, the mere fact that they were being blogged about on the internet made them feel uncomfortable and ended up with me being barred from the private game I was involved with.
This is not a mistake I will make twice.
Therefore there will be close to 0 updates about what I’m playing, who with or where (at least for London).
HOWEVER! I do my fair share of traveling to play (Punta Cana last November, Vegas and LA in Feb, Macau potentially in the near future) plus plan on playing a bunch more online, and I’ll be more liberal with stories from when travelling!
So… if you’re interested in any of that stick around for random and infrequent updates!
PS: this is my house mate’s pgc who also updates infrequently,
