I played everything from ftp 45-90s to FTP super turbos to PS stt's/18s to 45s/180s to cash to just mtt's. All this lead to was me not actually improving in terms of making $'s, I was too busy trying to just learn the basics of each game to actually make any good money from it.

I've finally since getting back on Merge found a game (super turbos) that I've stuck to, and look what happened...I end up being one of only 10 guys on the entire network to beat $5-52 super turbos pre RB over the last 4-5 months with a decent sized sample. Some people give me crap for being "just a rakeback grinder" but guess what, I'll gladly take that $50+ hourly as that's what it truly comes down to, hourly. So seriously, for those of you who switch back and forth all the time like I did, it's very hard to find real success until you pick a game, and you learn to beat it.
I partially disagree with you. I do think you should specialise and learn to crush your specialty when you start. But once you are close to the ceiling, there isn't that much left to study which gives you room for learning other games. And the hourly rate is not the only element to take into consideration. There is also your longetivity and interestingly point 3 is about how un-glamourous grinding for a living is. By grinding one variant of one game for donkey's years, you may win a lot of money but you also risk burning yourself out. It will also help you switch if you notice that after every passing year, your hourly keeps decreasing due to tougher competition in your main game.

Hopefully should be somewhere near landing now, hope he beats the border for once!
Pics required!

Also how was saying goodbye? Who cried, you or your mum first?

GL! took me ages to read through the first two pages glad you made a new thread...

also, how does a SNE stacking deal work? do you have to give up part of the RB or only off your potential winnings? seems like a pretty bad deal for the stacker if it is the later as you aim for a black zero...?

not (necesarrily) interested in the specifics of your deal, but saw it in a couple of posts that ppl get stacked for SNE and am wondering how these deals work in general.

best of luck, subed!

Poker is not a long-term "job" for 90% of people so having that backup plan is certainly very +EV imo. I myself haven't gone back to school mainly because I know I'd be wasting money; I wouldn't actually give it my all, so why waste the money? Now that certainly doesn't mean I won't eventually go back to school, it's just not for me at this time.

IMO Poker can only be a long term job if you some sort of side of business/invesment on the side or a sponsorship on the side...like you said grinding isn't as 'glamarous' as everyone says....grinding sngs to get SNE although profitable can IMO be determental to you mentally and physically...although its no more determental then a regular 9-5...you just have to know how to balance each...its justs my personal opinion that you can't be solely a poker player and expect to retire like the rest of the world...tho there are like 10% of poker players that do so...just my .02 that being said GL MAN!

Hey guys, for all that misunderstood, I flew to San Diego late last night (tuesday) and met up with Starting Gun and then we left for Mexico at 10am today from our hotel, Mission Valley Resort. Got down to Mexico without problems, been here about 1.5 hrs and I can def say that this place is really sick.

I don't have a monitor yet for my desktop, borrowing the roommates for a sec, so I'll be back to reply to all posts ITT in a few hours as we're gonna go to Walmart.

Glad to be down here though!

Pce out

Yea what Zack said, its lame that the previous month's LB doesn't stay on the site longer

It's really nothing special at all, I have a desk against one corner of the living room with my 32" that I picked up today, and Starting Gun on opposite side overlooking the ocean with his desk and his setup which is nothing special either. Will try to post pics though if I end up getting access to a camera/buying one.

One question from someone who is looking to switch from turbos to ST to get in more volume: I read in your other thread that you cleared 92% RB for the month of your challenge. I think I saw that you play on Lock, correct? Anyway you could give a quick breakdown of percentages that make up that 92%? I play on RPM and the best I think I could get pre-leaderboard and rakerace (which they took away) would be under 60%. Ayuda, por favor!
Tyty . And my rakeback % is the same as everyone, I just add in the leaderboard $'s as my effective rb % (which winning/2nd in LB makes ur RB % go up a tonnnnn). Glgl!

Yea for sure, I actually agree with you, I was gearing that towards a beginner just so they get a good start and are able to move up stakes.

Lol nps at border, and no tears shed in my family, none of us close enough with each other.

Haha . And I have a 75/25 deal with my backer on all profits and RB, its just 1 base % on everything.

Definitely agree with you there, which is why ive been heavily involved in staking and investing groups, and plan to do a ton more of it in the future.

Okay guys, I'm pretty tired as I only got 4hrs of sleep last night after a long day of travel and then have had a pretty long day today as well, so I'm going to give a short TR of everything that stands out on the day.

Cliffs:
-Arrived safely
-Didn't get stopped at border
-Live 20 mins outside city, next day neighbor is the fox studio
-Looks better than the pics ITT
-City run today for groceries + monitor
-Bank acct/cell phone tomorrow

So left Chicago Tuesday at 6:15 chicago time and landed in San Diego at 10:25pm local time (was a 4 hr flight). Ended up being a bit of a mess finding Starting Gun as we arrived at different terminals, so I had to haul my **** like 20 mins down to terminal 1, but we ended up finding each other so was all good. We got to our hotel in San Diego about 11:30pm last night. Then we were up and on the road to Mexico by 10am, our driver, Rudy got us safely through the border and we didn't even get stopped which was sweet!

The trip in Mexico was pretty eye opening, basically the city itself is about 20 minutes from where we live, and in between the city and our resort is a pretty impoverished area on the one side of the highway. Def is kinda sad to see, and it makes you realize that even though you yourself are living in a sick place, theres a lot of poverty around you. Anyway, you get through the poor area, and you hit a military checkpoint with guys in full uniform, rifles strapped to back and all, checking people going through. Then our place is about 1-2 mins up the road, our next door neighbors are Hotel Calalifa and then Fox Studio (http://www.bajafilmstudios.com/)....yes our neighbor is the Fox Studio in Mexico which is pretty sick imo

So we arrived to Calafia Resort about 11am, and Miguel was right there to take us to our condo. It's a pretty cool setup, gated community so we had to get buzzed in and then we drove over to tour 2 and got out and checked out our apartment. This place is pretty sick, looks better in person than in the pics. Theres a nice lounge in each of the towers and also a gym in each of the towers. There's also 6 (iirc) jacuzzi's around the resort, 4 being inside, and 3 or 4 pools as well. The beach area is pretty cool, can walk the entire beach down even to the Fox Studio which is pretty sweet, Starting Gun and I (or just him if im lazy ) are gonna walk it one of the next few days probably.

After checking out our new pad, we cabbed it into town (or part of the town) and hit up Burger King for lunch, and then ended up going to Walmart to get some supplies/food and my monitor. I settled on a 32" hdtv as I just stack my tables anyway so size > resolution. We also went to find telcell, which was a good 20 minute walk, and when we got there it was closed which was kinda sour, but we did find a nice grocery store that we'll probably hit up tomorrow or Friday. Then we headed back to the crib and unloaded everything and got on the grind for a bit to check out the internet...we definitely need to upgrade it as it lagged slightly sometimes. It's going to be a pretty ez fix though, no big deal at all.

jd4wg91 114 -$0.9 $7 0% -$102 - N/A Merge 11/2/2011 11/2/2011 SNG Only

Anyway, glgl to everyone tomorrow, pretty happy to be setup and looking forward to getting back onto stars! Will be going to the bank tomorrow to try to set up an account, and then heading over to telcell to get a phone.
11-03-2011 , 12:27 AM
oh i thought ya could start playin on stars straight away
11-03-2011 , 12:29 AM
Nah they put you through a ton of hoops before they let you play. Gotta have bank account, phone number (jd4wg.. with iampro, I think they made him talk on a landline), lease.. I think utilities.. and probably other stuff. They aren't messing around at all when it comes to Americans moving out of the country.
11-03-2011 , 05:04 AM
very nice place gl with getting on stars quickly
