H - had been opening fairly regularly from late position c bet flop but then folded to raise so my image at this stage is probably pretty lag although have only played 2 orbits
V - no reads other than recreational player male white 30's
2/5
Eff stacks 1200
H in sb with q4
V in hj
V limps, h completes in sb, 3 ways to flop
Flop (15) q96r
X,x, v bets 15, h calls, bb folds
Turn (45) 4s ( puts fd on board)
H x, v bets 35, h raises to 75, v jams for the remainder of his 1200 stack. H?
Don't go broke in a limped pot without the nuts. I'd rather call turn and bet river than raise turn so small. What worse hands are calling a raise and a river bet on this board in a limped pot? Oh and fold pre.
so while learning the right plays as you get better, you will make some plays like this in these kind of spots.
for instance instead of check calling, check raise this flop and lead out on fourth for a heavier bet if he calls the flop.
this gets you the pot when you have the best hand which is quite often as his bet is often a bluff. plus you also get some flop calls then he folds.
but you will also lose some bigger pots and have to learn how to deal with them and who to do this against.
there is alot more to winning poker than making the best hand.
Hoenstly i run into hands like this more then hands like flopping sets with scary runouts etc. I also think spots like this are an easy way to make money if you are at a weak tight table, but whatever all game/room dependent.
Vil open limps HJ? HAHAHAHAHAH. He has AA. Im not calling but this is a donkey AA hand.
OK he has AA here to me 10.3% of the time. the rest of the time though is very interesting honestlty but I think we can put 66 and 44 here.
The more i think about it, the more i think he has 44 and got lucky. Hes betting pot on a limped pot with a dry ass flop? Dude has trash on flop IMO.
I agree with above, we should c/r flop and we should be able to recognize it pretty easily here IMO cause its a limped dry pot.
10.3%=AA
88%=hand we lose too
1.7%=bluffs
Even if i felt he had AA from the bottomof my heart, it is pretty foolish to call this off here cause it takes a very special type of villain to overplay like this. But a guy who limped HJ might be the guy.
Just to be clear, please dont call unless you are a a true live crusher who normally plays vs Ivey.
I've saved a lot of money by folding two pair hands in limped pots when people suddenly want to get stacks in.
I dislike short hand 'rules' but 'never go broke in a limped pot' has a lot of traction. Ranges are ridiculously wide, we are multiway and the pot is tiny...so what kind of hands get people to start raising like a madman? Top and bottom two pair doesn't cut it.
