Play Live or Stick to Online for Small Stakes?

I've been playing online for about 4 years now. Unfortunately, at Cake Poker (one of the only sites that still allows a HUD), all the games dried up. It seems like most of the players who still play take the game just as seriously as I do; the play isn't very soft anymore.

However, I recently moved to where I can get to Vegas in about 3 hours.

So here's my question:

Should I take out all my money from my online account and go play the $1/$2 games in Vegas or should I stick it out online? I'm assuming the massive tourism brings in a lot of recreational players? Does anyone know if the games in Las Vegas are easier to play than those on Cake Poker?

Please offer any suggestions or experience that may help me.

Thanks!

My biggest problem with online is you can't cash out immediately. I will always pick live over online for that reason alone. Not to mention online poker is illegal and your account could be frozen at any moment.

If you are more than an hour away from a casino, 1/2nl is not worth playing as a secondary income.

A good winrate for 1/2nl is 10bb/hr, so that is $20/hr and that is assuming you do well.

I don't know about Cake Poker but I just deposited on Carbon and it seems okay. Of course, its not PokerStars but then again what is???

My advice is that you grind on Carbon and then do Vegas trips every 3-day weekend that you can get away.

Seriously, that is the only way it would be worth your time. Hook up with some fellow poker players, like 2-3 of you, share a room and grind out a 3-day weekend once every other month or so.

I know you don't want to hear this, but trust me, a six hour round trip drive for 1/2nl is just not worth doing for anything less than 2-3 days of play.

what games were you playing?
at what level?
what was your win rate?
what is your bank roll?
are you talking about full time or recreationally?
do you have another source of income?

etc etc

impossible to answer specifically.

If you can get to LV in three hours, there's a poker room that is closer to you than LV most likely. Play 1/2 there. I've played 1/2 in lots of locations. LV is by no means a mecca for 1/2 play.

I'd only travel any significant distance to play poker for an income supplement if you could beat 2/5.

I actually came from cake poker to the live field and immediately showed improvement. Nowadays I'd definitely say live poker is softer than online. I was a micro stakes grinder on and went to the casino for the first time 3 months ago and have shown profit. I learned I really like live poker and I'm glad I finally went. My life isn't complete without live poker now!
