Is "OLD LADY" a player type? Is "OLD LADY" a player type?

Ok we have nits, TAG's, old white dudes, LAG's, but lets talk about OLD WHITE LADIES. And yes, there is a race distinction here. I have seen some aggro black ladies who are decent players at the low stakes. In this post i just want to talk about your OLD WHITE LADIES. Let me bring up a hand:

HERO: TAG with $350 at a 2/5 table

Villain: OLD, WHITE, LADY. im guessing 68 years old. She just sat down. She has glasses and probably sweatpants. She is a regular at this poker room in Northern California. If I had to guess her name is Cathy or maybe Barbara. She has $400. No info on her besides the stereotypes.

3 limpers and Hero raises from cutoff with black AA to $25.

Villain in BB calls and 2 more callers.

Flop (100) QJ2

Check to hero who makes it $45. Villain raises to $100. Everybody folds to Hero who calls.

Turn ($300) is a 6. Villain bets $100.

Hero?

So i would like to hear what you would do here. To drive my point home. I just want to say that OLD WHITE LADIES are probably the MOST predictable player in the poker universe. They are the quintessential tight/passive player. You should run whenever they raise unless you have a setmine hand that you can destroy with. They will never fold ACES unless there are 4 clubs on board and they have 2 red aces. Even then, they might find some evil inside to call you only if you are bluffing. Anybody else frustrated with this type of player??

Why are you frustrated by a player type that you feel is easy to play against?

I've seen more evidence of certain stereotypes being true at the poker table that had to do with age more than race. Poker is like the great melting pot for degens

OWLs (heh) are so easy to play against. If they raise 5-6x pre it's KK or AA. If they bet a flop with A high or K high they have top pair good kicker. They limp fold like crazy and get annoyed by young punks trying to raise preflop all the time. They will limp call with all pocket pairs even if they are terribly short stacked.

If you make friends with them, they won't be mad you raised them out of pots. They will cheer for you when you beat the angry super LAGs. I have no problem with them, easy to read and basically dead money.

Snap fold.

They are almost exclusively staions. When they raise, fold like your cards are on fire.

This applies here also.

Don't stray until you have evidence to the contrary.

This player type described falls into my NIT model.

Sounds like you are more frustrated in having to fold hands then you are playing against this woman.

A $25 raise preflop with 3 limpers in a 2/5 game is weak where I play. I'd be bumping to at least $30 if not $40. I think she's running over you with AQ. You're a short stack with an over pair on a board with no completed draws. How are you not pushing?

Yeah, it's probably that

Fold when she raises the flop, you are beat here sooo often. Old lady would call with Qx, Jx and draws and will raise QJ and sets here. Don't give her the satisfaction of paying off her flop raise.

If these players frustrate you that much, then why are you playing 2/5? Why not move down to 1/2 or 1/3? Or why not just quit poker? If you struggle to beat the most predictable players that call too much and only raise with monsters, then even 1/2 NL games will be too hard for you.

I don't think they are nits. IMO they are calling stations. I think the nits are much tighter and more serious about the game. Old ladies that I see tend to treat the game more like bingo.

These are the sort of situations we avoid by checking the turn. Then c/c on the river. Think the old lady can turn over AQ often enough.
