The more interesting question would be to ask why I have responded to this.

I've had to move down from 2/5. Not because I went broke though. I was still rolled for it when I moved down. It was because of game conditions mostly. 2/5 in my town is one of the worst in the country, and the room had recently changed its 1/2 game to 1/3.

Confirmed difficult. I had a hard enough time moving from 2/5 to 1/3, let alone 5/10 to 1/2. The key for me was goal setting. Without a goal in mind I was just bored and spewy.

Ive never had the moving down problem. I've done it both live and online. I'm too competitive to be affected by the lower stakes.

I've gone busto on a few occasions. Twice online and thrice live although every time I went broke live was due to life inflicting a death blow to my poker roll and not inability to compete.

Never went broke but failed at 2/5 multiple shots. Hit my stop loss and went back to $1/$2 300 max to grind it back up and do it over again.

Some players have this strange view that if you go broke at 1/2 you are supposed to move up to 2/5.

why do people think this is a troll? if you have 1k lying around and wanna spend the evening with, there are worse things to do.

Then again, it all depends on the player too. I've seen a guy limp QQ on the button after 2 limpers in as 6-handed game at 5/T.

You might get lucky. It's a no win scenario though. If you win the session that will just keep you coming back for more, and if you build a winning streak you will have tasted enough of the big money that you will never want to go back to 1/2. I've seen multiple players go on a hot streak at 5/T+, then play there for months breaking even or losing money. When they finally come to the realization that they can't beat 5/T+ it's very difficult to move back down to 2/5. I can't even imagine trying to go back to grinding 1/2 after playing 5/T. You'd probably just quit poker.

What kind of bankroll would have kept you guys from going broke? I really feel that 15k is kinda the minimum BR needed

I think it was around 20-25k at the time I officially bought the house

That is my real question. I would like to see what each player thinks in retrospect about their particular situation. Certainly having a separate roll for life expenses would help the most but I am looking for raw data from players

My typical room has a 2x-5x mission straddle from any position so I like to keeo 50bi for the 1/3 games and feel comfortable taking shots in 2/5 at +16k

I think 30bi for most pros is very aggressive unless you are just simply head and shoulders above everyone else and or have some other income streams

Currently I'm sitting around 18k and playing like 66% 1/3 and 33% 2/5

Time for my monthly "this is not a free trolling zone" post.

Also, while some strat is appropriate to a general discussion of winrates and required bankrolls, this is not a strat thread either. Please keep this thread on topic.
