Re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

That's VERY interesting.. that means I may consider 2/5 next time I go to Vegas..

I've spend 8 days in Vegas the past month, and from that made $3600... I've won a few lucky all in's yes, but I've had the odd session where I've been down 3 buy in's after running into aces three times with kings etc... So long as the cards are fairly even I think I have an OK win-rate..

One area of my game I was thinking needs improving for 2/5 was the times to pick bluffing. A lot of the times in 1/2 I tend to end up C-betting on a perfectly fine flop against 2 others and running into huge action. Also, tight players donking or c-betting into me I give way too much respect and picking times to raise light against them is also something I need to start doing more.

Anyway thanks for the advice...! May mix it up and do a bit of 1/2 and a bit of 2/5 next time...!

Re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

I could talk about this for hours. I use poker journal and think it's pretty neat but there are some more things I'd like to see. It crashes from time to time and it's very power-intensive, but meh, not that big a deal.

This topic becomes more interesting when we introduce the idea of playing for a living solely from these live games. Then we can start to ask questions like 'given a winrate x and a monthly nut y, how many hours do we have to play at no bankroll growth?' Unfortunately, the answer is usually 'lots and lots' which is why there aren't very many live pros playing 1/2.

This topic becomes super-interesting when we introduce games with uncapped buyins....

Re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

I don't plan to ever make a living from 1/2.. I'm purely building a bankroll at this point and don't plan to actually keep any money until I get to 5/10, which I'm planning for in 2 years if everything goes correctly haha...

I've never kept a full poker journal.. I post key hands, but never really heard of using a poker journal really... If I have a 10 hour session it would take a while recording it all anyway, unless there's an iPhone app or its web based? lol.

Maybe it's worth developing (I'm a software engineer haha)

Re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

All you do is set up the details for when you're starting, how much you buy in for, where you're playing, what stakes, press a few buttons every time you reload or go on a break, and then record your final results at the end of the session, pretty easy. It's not for tracking hands. Though I think a built-in template for that would be pretty cool.

LOL... you obv didnt read the beginning of this thread. There are plenty of iPhone apps. The one most of us use is called 'Poker Journal'

The app is a must for the pro and casual player who takes the game serious. Its worth take a look at. I think there is a lite version that you can dl for free to give it a try.

If you developed an android app, a lot of people would use it. It's not a bad idea if development is your thing. You could totally get suggestions and feedback from the 2+2 community. (as well as free marketing) Anyone who used it would totally be willing to pay for a well developed app.

Can you tell I have an android phone? android > iPhone

Re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

One bad thing about a new casino which is about 1hr 20mins away is they only have 1 table and they bumped up the limit to 2/5.. kinda pissed me off but its the same idiots playing 1/2 so i'm some what overall happy. At the start of the year they did have 1/2 table. Been keeping stats of my live play this year. I dont have much time played cuz its only busy on weekends and at times game doesnt start to around 4pm cuz no dealers.. kinda dumb **** ... and i usually work, my boss is a ***** and gives me like 1 friday a month. Might quit and look for a new job or something not sure atm.

Played about 7 sessions maybe close to 40hrs and its been split 1/2 and 2/5 up around 1.3k ... Which brings my hourly to $30ish which isnt bad at all considering i'm making $7.85 n hour lol. I'm a student atm reason i'm not making bigger bucks.

Poker Journal is sweet for the iPhone. I actually use Poker Income Pro...it's pretty sweet and think it's a bit better than Poker Journal. Also more expensive. You can even record vpip and player profiles.

Eh, I prefer the BB, but mainly because it is primarily my work phone. I like the iPhone more as a toy.

$15-25/hr @ 1-2NL

$35-45/hr @ 2-5NL

$55-65/hr @ 5-10NL

rite?

This actually looks really good for a decent solid player. I would say the best of the players make $50 and $100 respectively at the upper two limits, but I like this.

Taking the Plunge, Playing for a living

Hello all

I have recently gone back and forth on the idea of playing poker for a living. My main casino is the Borgata. Was looking for advice/feedback as to if people think this is feasible, or not. obviously, this summary may seem very broad, but is best i can do for now

i already play at the borgata about 3-4 times a month usually for about 2-3 days. i am consistently winning at 2-5nl, making anywhere from 1500 to 3000 for my 3 day sessions. is this possible? or have i just been getting hit with a good deck? i read things about making 4x big blinds an hour, and obviously mine is way higher. was wondering if people can make the amounts ive made consistently playing 2-5nl bricks and mortar poker?

Thanks all

Sample size? How much savings do you have? Do you play online?

Re: Taking the Plunge, Playing for a living

Do you have 6 months lviing expenses saved. 3-4 times a month since last summer is like less than a week of onnline play most likely. We are probably talking about 10k hands max? It sounds as if you don't really understand variance or sample sizes etc. I am always sceptical of 'live pros' who don't play online since its so easy for them to delude themselves. Nothing like cold hard data and large sample sizes.

Re: Taking the Plunge, Playing for a living

If you were amazing I think $40-50/hour would be possible if stacks were fairly deep. It sounds like you don't have a lot of poker experience so that would obv be a bit optimistic. Obviously you would more breakeven/losing months compared to playing online since you are getting 30 hands/hour.

You don't have enough sessions under your belt yet to even know if you are good or not. Do you currently have a job? My advice is to wait it out a bit more and play as you are currently playing until you have played through at least one gut wrenching downswing. I know nothing about your game, but the tone of your post indicates that you have yet to experience one of the horrific swings that all long-term players experience.
