The player that raised pre-flop is relatively tight. So I put him on a good hand, which makes my call to set-mine the correct play. If he had a weak hand then a fold might be a better play. I guess you and I agree.

I definitely agree with you that its a call here. I don't see how it can ever be a fold TBH. If he has a weak range we will be able to win unimproved more often (both through aggression and showing down). If he has a strong range we can win enough when we do improve to make it worth it.

I just can't think of a reasonable scenario where folding 99 PF to one raise would be a good idea.

I pinned it on any number of factors, not feeling my best that day, etc. But I think they all came down to nerves. I never took it again, but I would imagine if I had, being in the same situation again would have been a little easier. I think each time you take it you are more likely to get closer to your "true" score.

Also, there may be some variation (i.e. you may have just gotten a bad test for you). I don't know much about the MCAT though. You previously said it was content based to some extent, so I suppose its possible. Its not really possible for tests like the LSAT, which are concept based.

Are you planning on retaking it?
Yeah I'm retaking it in a month. I had to take it in Michigan because at the time, there were no test centers in downtown Chicago in the period I wanted to take it. Everything would have been an hour drive away. So instead, I found a place near my parents in Michigan.

MCAT is a weird test, it's massively content based, but it's far from recite this fact or solve this problem. About 1/4 of the test are straightforward science problems, while 3/4 are read this passage and apply what you know to it. There's an absurd amount of topics that are fair game, and that leads to variation because I have my strengths and weaknesses.

A few informal studies have shown that private practice tests (from Kaplan etc) account for 35-40% of variance, while AAMC practice tests account for 75%. I can't take the AAMC tests becauseive taken most of them already.

The other thing I did last year, which was definitely dumb, was basically stopping my prep after I scored what I wanted to 'stay fresh'. I'm going to take a massive amount of tests this year.

I tend to file that stuff under the "things I could worry about, but are -LifeEV to worry about" category though. I just generally don't care if a cab driver takes me the long way for $5.

Plus its probably close to cost neutral to me, because I just won't tip them if they try to scam me.

Yea, it sucks, but that seems to almost always be the best way to prepare for a standardized test. Again, no experience with the MCAT, but it sounds like a really horrible experience, and I'm glad to have "only" had to prepare for the LSAT which in comparison is mostly learnable and entirely predictable.

I got long hauled, noticed it right away. Paid the cab half the fare and told him why. Didn't say a thing.

Yeah I mean if there is some sort of intrinsic delay between picking up people that really affects your earnings I can see why. That could probably earn you like thousands of dollars a year more.

I actually find the economics of that interesting. Obviously if there is no down time and they instantly pick up the next passenger, long-hauling is not in their best interests because it affects their tips and reduces the number of times they get the starting fare with no benefit.

Which is obviously why the starting fare exists, to decentivize that kind of behavior. But then it ends up sucking for the passenger if the starting fee is too high because shorter trips will be more expensive.

It seems that raising the starting fee and reducing the $/mile while driving would help and maybe it will encourage people to walk when they are travelling shorter distances which is good for all sorts of reasons.

But I guess that ends up hurting cab drivers because they get fewer fares.

The real interesting part is that if there is some sort of delay what kind of service charge per customer would you need to charge to make up for that average value lost between pickups.

I don't think it would result in fewer charges because cabs are already expensive and their use is quite inelastic. I mean, nobody is ****ing jogging from the airport.

Lol. This actually happened to me in Zurich a few weeks back. I was getting a cab home (which is usually 34-37 swiss francs & i know most common route) but driver goes on random highway and circles around the city and ends up getting the meter up to 60. What ended up happening was he was going through a tunnel and sped up a little to fast - and he got caught by one of the speeding cameras that take a picture of your license plate and mail you a ticket.

I payed the full fare but LOL, A$$hole got what he deserved.
