Went on a nice little run for a minute there. Almost stacked a dude. He tanked forever. Reg sitting on his purse though. Turns his AA into a bluff and c/r into the nuts. Cmon man.

The games get dull pretty quick on a monday night. Most of the regs here are bad and have bad attitudes. Definitely ready to go home.

Who's the host? I'd rather go to Bike than drive to HG if the game is good.

What was the point of the faceup muck? Was it to actually encourage people to take shots at you in the future (and therefore get paid off)? Or just some sorta ego thing?

I'm still working on my ego thing at the table regarding quietly talking too much poker strategy with the occasional other decentish players at the table. I'm failing miserably at it so far this year, I've got to learn to s.t.f.u. or just spew terrible lol advice. I play tonight; gonna see if I can go a whole session without getting involved in any genuine poker related discussion.

I hear people say these things to donkey plays all the time, such as someone folding an obvious best hand and the other villain doesn't show.

Just yesterday this idiot had bottom two against AA and the money went in on the flop against a huge overbet. The idiot called after showing his bottom two and pondering for a good minute or so. AA turned a set and won the hand.

Afterwards, the idiot starts to mumble how he should have folded because he had a bad feeling about the hand, and another guy at the table agreed and said that "ya, sometime you just have to go against math and make decisions with your gut feeling."

Now the idiot is feeling horrible about not laying down to a huge overbet, which was the origin of this "bad feeling."

played 5/10 this weekend, and 2 of the rich fish, one of which is a doctor, who is a degen, and is loaded, were analyzing each others hands, and saying s#*yt like "you shoulda done this, you shoulda done that" to each other.
but what they were really trying to do was to get 3 or 4 of the good players at the table to chime in on the discussion, so they could get free coaching.
They would str8 up ask you what you thought about the play, and I would say something like "it's gambling, sometimes you don't hit.", and just generally goof around. A lot of these guys do want to get better, although they don't have the time. (they are either working or playing marathon sessions, lol). they are smart, too; and even if you're rich, losing all the time still sucks.
one super rich fish i know, Bari, is no longer a rich fish, and it's he most disgusting thing you can ever imagine. he's still rich, too. just no longer a fish.
you usually dont get that rich by not being bright enough to learn poker.
it's not that hard a game. STFU.

i'll set the line at 2 hours, gg, for how long you can handle... lol
it's not an easy habit to break. i still catch myself starting to do it, and i usually quit soon afterwards. (practice total Mum poker, no even saying King, or str8, nothing poker.)
it always means im on my B- to C game, anyways, when i lapse into it. it's an indicator that i'm losing my focus. just see how long you can manage, and try to build on it. first 2 hours, then 3 hours, ect...it's not gonna happen overnight.

last month, i'm playing 2/5 at Ceasars during the circuit event, and the action was great.
A fish who i know from Lucky Chances was in the game, and also happens to be a super hot female.
she made some uberbad play, like over calling 2 ppl w/ the bottom end of the str8 for all her chips, and when she was gone, the poker nerd sitting next to me told me:
"your friends with her? you should really talk to her about that, that was a horrible play"
I like her just fine, but i dont necessarily want her to get better at poker. also, i've never noticed that shes interested in getting better at poker.
she doenst need to win at poker, anyways, she obv has money, the way she plays.

Goofing around / spewing awful advice / "there's nothing else you can do there but stack off, unlucky bud" is my general m.o.

But every once and a while I'll catch myself having a quiet genuine poker conversation with my non-moron neighbour; this is the stuff I have to stop doing, especially around others.

Re: ***Official "It Lives, It Lives" Chat Thread***

Yeah, I was bout 50% at keeping my mouth shut yesterday @ Bellagio:

#1 - friendly drinking guy tries to get new player at the table to come in for a straddle. New player declines. Friendly drinking guy raises utg and takes it down pre, showing KK, and telling new guy he could have cracked his kings if he had straddled. I point out he wouldn't have had kings if the guy had straddled. Table laughs a bit. Drinking guy thinks about it for a minute and says you're right, but why are you trying to ruin my fun?" Oops 0 for 1.

#2 - get it all-in on a J43 all spade flop with T9s against As4x where the guy made a 4x pot call, didn't hit, then berated himself for gambling. I pointed out how was he supposed to know I had a flush, I could have been doing that with anything (I had played only a few hands in the last couple hours...was just killing time til picking up a friend at the airport, plus card dead). I even mentioned that I could have "just" had a set (lol). This mollified him. Thinking back, I prob should have just let him tilt. Not sure which is better. If he was a complete fish, def make him feel good, but he was semi-competent. I'll give myself half credit for at least not being honest and mathy. 0.5 of 2.

#3 - decent pot building 3-ways. 8c7d4sKc. I bet the turn with 7h7s, get raised all-in by a fairly aggr guy for $50 more. 3rd guy thinks about it and folds, I snap. River 9c. Raiser doesn't seem to want to flip his cards, so I flip mine, and he whines and eventually mucks. Guy on my right tells me he folded A7c because he knew I was going to call and he didn't want to draw against 2 people, and that if the turn wasn't a king or if it was just one of us he would have called He was easily getting the right direct odds, plus implied odds against me as we both had $ left (although I would have shoved over the top for his last $50, but I don't think that crossed his mind). I just nodded and said "yeah, what can you do?"

1.5 of 3.

Sorry for long boring post. I'm in bed 3/4 asleep not wanting to get up.

fwiw I think it is always better to tell people they played it fine just because the table plays much much better if everybody is happy and in a good mood

it's not a tournament.

I do like to have the exact same amount as somebody else if you decide to flip for stacks with them.
that way, one of you gets the satisfaction of felting the other player.

ya, but what Mum poker will do for you is act as a fail safe.
you wont be able to even come close to having such discussions, because they will never even hear you say the word 'spade', much less 'implied odds', yada, yada,
your mind will be less likely to go there if you practice Mum poker. once you start talking about something, youre giving over to it.
it helps with tilt, a lot too. you are less likely to start analyzing everything thats happened in your mind, in which case, your head is no longer in the game, in this hand.
being able to remember hands, and plays you made, (or write them down), and analyze them in your down time away from the table, and not right after they happened, is essential to performing well, imo.
analyzing at the table is a bad habit, even if you do it in your mind, and dont talk about it. talking about it only compounds the problem, for yourself
it's a distraction. it's a leak.
(not to mention it ruins games, and educates fish, or makes them feel uncomfortable.)
performing the task at hand doesnt have anything to do with talking about the task at hand ad nauseum.

youre at the table to
[x] play the game
[ ] talk about playing the game

like, when youre fishing, you dont need to sit there with your pole, and talk about fishing.
you are fishing. why talk about it? it only takes away from the experience. just fish, and enjoy yourself.
when youre stuck at the office, then i can see wanting to talk about it; what lures your using, what line, all the nerd stuff...

Ya but when you're just flat out lying, I personally think it's better to not say anything.

Is this Mum poker a Tommy Angelo thing or one of your own thoughts? Do you have a link?
