Prisoner's dilemma. If the market is left to determine 2 and 3 regular players are going to act in their best short-term interests and play at the sites that allow them to do those things. These sites will get more players (and have more games running from people mass multitabling). The increased traffic makes them more likely to win out.

So if the market is left to determine the outcome these sites are quite likely to be the ones that win out because everyone (including fish) wants to play at the biggest sites.

But the rate the fish will lose at is going to discourage them from continuing to play. Which isn't in our best long-term interests.

An artificial limitation on those two factors may force us to behave in a way that is a better long-run outcome than an unregulated environment.

Your argument is based on a false assumption (that sharks are a dominant force in the poker economy when they're actually <5%) and self-contradictory (that fish will choose sites they will lose faster at).

Fish aren't going to stop gambling because they got discouraged at Site X. They want to gamble. Instead, they'll go to Site Y that friend A told them about. They'll stay at the place they're most happy at, and the sharks will follow.

The fish have no idea which site they will lose faster at. They are fish. They are going to pick sites with the most traffic.

I agree the argument is a little contrived and I'm not entirely sure I believe it. But I think there may be something to having limitations on how quickly fish can lose and improving the long-run health of the poker economy.

I think I would probably prefer the sites allowing HUDs. I just can't imagine playing online again without one. But the idea that they should be banned isn't entirely without merit IMO.

The idea that they should be banned by the government is completely without merit. The idea that sites should ban them is not. That is a huge distinction.

I have to say that I am equally disgusted with the MGM. Like 6 sessions in a row I can't get anything started at all. Grr.

I agree some people want to argue about stuff that really doesn't matter. This is not 2005 the game has evolved most people can't see it though.

I'm fine with people disagreeing with me; god knows I don't have all the answers. I'm just pissed at the hostile tone.

@mpethy why would you play at mgm? Does it get the most traffic and tourist?

I always thought the v was the best poker room on the strip. But I have not been to vegas in a couple of years.
