There is a $10-$15 straddle, a 3x/4x raise and you are next to act with QQ with 100BB's, some players have you covered and some are buying in short with 30-40BB's. We even have one goof who buys in for 30BB's and straddles $10 while talking bad strat. They all like to straddle and I think it comes from watching HSP and The Big Game.
Strategy-wise, are you playing QQ here like a short-stacker and shipping pre using the straddle as another blind making your eff stack 13-20BB's?
What about JJ? What would be the bottom of your range for shipping or flatting?
|
You're playing a 1/15 game with 13-20 BB. I'm shipping TT+, AK, AQ when facing a raise. If the raiser is sloppy loose, I'd open that up even more.

Re: ***Official "It Lives, It Lives" Chat Thread***
I thought this was a funny hand of 1/2 NL "Indian" Holdem the other night.
File under dumb crap I do at 3AM.
3AM short handed table filled up when another table broke. New dude to my left seemed to me to be immediately out of line. I was getting near ready to leave and feeling frisky so I figured I would play back at him next chance I got.
New guy Straddles
Hero BB w/ 42o
Rather than raise I decide to take it on the flop
Hero: "you gonna raise new guy?"
New Guy: "Yep"
Hero: "I just call then"
New guy: "Twenty"
Hero: Call
Flop (40) 3 6 9r - weee a gutter. I know he whiffed. Imma check raise.
Hero: "Check"
New Guy: "Fifty"
New Guy: "That guy in seat 8... his name is Chuck right?"
Hero:"Yeah"
New Guy: "I'm gonna show Chuck my hand" NG holds cards out in front of him where Chuck and some others can see.
Hero puts together a stack of raising chips (I admit I didn't expect a flop bet of 50) then says "Look at these babies chuck" and holds his cards out too.
The corner of Chuck's mouth began to rise.... until they were just about touching his ears... he obviously approves of the move I am about to make on this out of line newcomer .... but suddenly I realized Chuck was not grinning with me but at me... He was watching a train wreck in progress and enjoying the hell out of it.
Hero: "I think I have you but I'm gonna lay this down" and I mucked my 2 4.
New guy tabled two black Aces.
I smiled, informed him I had outs and racked up pleased that I could provide entertainment for Chuck who IMO owes me $20.

Haha thanks. Got dealt the nuts with her. Got out of a 2year relationship that left me devastated and found myself at a beer festival with a friend depressed as ***. Ran into an old highschool friend and my now gf happened to be visiting her for the first time in her life. Sometimes you hit gutterballz.

Re: ***Official "It Lives, It Lives" Chat Thread***
Just finished looking at my recent numbers. After cycling back into play, I am on a nice upswing with a wicked hourly rate/100% unsustainable - but I'll take it!
I still keep finding a trend in my stats and I don't know what to make of it.
In my 4 best sessions at 1/3 and 2/5 (+450, +500, +600, +650), I have shown down a hand better than two pair exactly one time. Looking back at a good run I had in the past year, that trend was evident there as well.
I don't track all pots completely accurately, but I seem to be getting to the river and showing down 1 pair winners more often than I would expect, especially in 100BB+ pots.
In my more middle of the road winning sessions ($150-400), I do seem to win pots with "big" hands (2 pair +) more often.
I think what may be a factor is the frequency of straddling and my position relative to the straddler in some of the games. In my last 2/5 session (last Saturday), two players were putting out $15 straddles UTG and UTG+1. They seemed to pick up a lot of limpers, and I was able to play pots with low SPRs in position. I believe I may have netted $200 on raising pre and taking down the $75 limp-fest pots. I also think these straddles are keeping me out of speculative hands due to poor implied odds/bloated pots, over weighting my results with 1 pair hands.
Just rambling here a bit. I think these straddled filled games are working for me now, but that so many pots with low SPRs are taking away my postflop edge. My saving grace may be knowing when I am committed or not, but I am expecting a variance backlash.

haha SF cost of living i guess..? you'll have a tough time on that roll obv but with the softness of SF area games from what i hear, you can probably just take a full stack shot at 1/3 and then reroll yourself down the line when you can put some $ away? dunno
