I think 95% of the time I read "I checked for pot control" , or "you should check for pot control", the person is not actually advising you should check for pot control but for another reason, that they can't articulate.
This is exactly what I would say about pot control (especially the first paragraph):

This is checking the turn because you think they will call wider on the river. Therefore, it's a EV maximization line, not pot control.

Once you check the flop they put you on AK and never readjust that range. Of course, they put you on AK when you bet the flop to though, but will adjust that range when you bet turn.
