3/b folding AK vs passive shorties at LLSNL? 3/b folding AK vs passive shorties at LLSNL?

Encounter this spot often..

1/3, straddle 6,
V, UTG (young typical passive rec) raises to $20,
BTN calls,
Hero raises to $75 in SB with AKo,
folds to V who shoves for $$175,
BTN folds,
Hero ??

Ofcourse, on the surface, this looks like a snap call given price, but when we think about his range, it looks super strong, since he'd just call with a hand like JJ/QQ/AK often.

Is the preflop 3bet a little thin vs a UTG raise at these stakes?

If BTN folded to the initial raise, is it more of a call than a 3b?

Would he really just call with JJ/QQ/AK with only $100 left behind? Even passive players can recognize when they're committed pre flop with a premium hand.

In any event, this is just a math problem. We're getting 2.7:1, so need 27% equity. Against KK+ we only have 18.5% equity and need to fold. Against KK+/AKs we have 25.7% and it's a marginal fold. Against QQ+ and AKs we have 33.3% equity and it's a call. Basically, against a typical young rec, even a passive one, I think they have QQ/AK/JJ enough to justify a call. Can really only fold v. a true nit.

3! is good. Now snap call.

Math problem.

Just decide what V's actual range is and act accordingly.

+1

Do not fold AK when playing a 30 Straddle effective stack.

Never folding here. (Unless V is OMC...but if that were the case we likely wouldn't have 3-bet)

AK is certainly not a mandatory 3bet in a 3way pot.

Ya I'm wondering why you think the 3 bet is standard. It's not. It's not necessarily bad but the fact that you don't know what to do afterward tells me you don't know why you're doing it. That tells me you don't know when it might not be a good idea.

Usually very happy to get your stack in the middle with AK playing 30 straddles. Exception would be if Villain range is lolLLSNL-tight. However, must call it off once you 3bet. Call or probably fold pre if Villain UTG range is super tight, otherwise standard hand. Villain initial raising range is the key.

Lol, you are getting about 3.3-1. Even if he turned KK face up, this would be a snap call.

With no other dead money in the pot and against a passive player raise in EP, I would typically just flat with AK. The more dead money there is in the pot, the more reason there is to 3bet plus makes flipping profitable.

Looks like we're getting 2.5:1 on a call at this point. His range would have to be something like KK+ for calling not to be profitable at this point.

ETA: I missed the fact that Button called, and with BB/straddle still to act, this does make 3betting a little bit more attractive, but as others have said, it's isn't 100% necessary by any means.

I think we're getting closer to ~2.7:1 (2.8:1 minus rake), although I guess it depends how your read OP (i.e. is that $175 total or $175 on top)?

Still, even at 3.3:1, we'd need 23%. If he literally showed KK face up, then yeah, we'd call as we're getting 30%. But if his range is only KK+, then we'd have to fold as we'd only be getting 18%.

If I've stoved things correctly.
