Effective 600

Villain is young Asian who seems a little too loose pre and aggro post but not much history with him. He called an UTG open from EP with Q9s.

Hero is young white guy who is stuck

Pre: hero QdTd opens the CO to $20 after posting pre, v calls on BTN, BB calls.

Flop (62): Qh9d3c

BB checks, hero checks, villain checks

Turn: Th

BB checks, hero bets $45, villain raises to $160, BB folds, hero calls

River (382): 8d

Hero checks, villain bets $225, hero?

I bet flop most times but I like to mix in some checks esp with perceived aggro villain on BTN. BB is a nit.

If you're going to trap on flop, not sure why your plan changed on turn/river. I don't like the river, but his hand looks like T9/whiffed hearts a lot. Not sure if he would bluff raise AJ, sounds like he'd bet KJ/J8/J9 flop, JT calls turn, J7 might raise turn too. I don't have stove on me, but seems like a call as his range is likely bluff heavy.

Bet the flop imo.
Plenty of worse hands that can call.

Yes, most times I bet flop but I like to check with some small amount of Qx sometimes. Thoughts on turn and river as played?

There's room for a math call here needing ~quarter, but that leans pretty hard on assumed information.

I'm not sure what your overall strategy is, but let's forget about him for a moment.
If you can check flop w QTs sometimes then you should also have a fair share of Jx here that would take this line. JT/QJ (mostly bet/check flop mix, bet turn), J9s (mostly check/bet flop, bet turn), JJ (check mostly), and I would have some KJ in here too that can take do a lot of things on each street/I would not have it as a bet/3b turn always. You might have a few sets otr too, so perhaps QTs is your worst riv check call, T9s maybe...

Turn seems fine, fold river.

Flop seems like a good candidate to bet with a large amount of your hands. Probably check 88- and A7- and 67- but bet most other hands. Can occasionally check sets and Q9 to balance, but I don't think TP3K is a good hand to slowplay.

Bet flop

As played against a villain even a little bit leaning aggro I am calling here. Villain is only representing a J, and I the only hands I see are KJ and maybe J8 suited (that turned straight). QJ I think bets flop, and I don't think AJ or J10 raises that often on this turn.

Obviously he will have it sometimes, but it is such a juicy bluff spot I pay this off.

This is one of the worst textures to not bet your hand on the flop. This should be a 100% bet flop spot. I can think of ten reasons why but the one that comes to mind is backdoor equity. The 9d is the start of our straight flush and it sucks not to get paid when it ships

On the turn The Th is actually a bad card to bet and i am not sure about bet call. I think bet/raise is a lot better or c/r.

Had i not bet the flop i would chk raise turn. Had i bet turn i would reraise as opposed to call or just fold.

Having gotten there this way i try n soul read. Too close to call

Flop is a super good spot to x/c with QTdd, esp vs aggro on BTN. BTN should be stabbing here quite wide vs BB nit and your check, and you can continue calling on basically any turn. Getting raised here also sucks because you basically have to fold out all your backdoor equity and two pair outs vs Q9 since people just don't bluff-raise this spot enough to make b/c profitable with QTdd.

Turn seems fine, river just fold.

Not really. Flop is actually a pretty good candidate to be checking a lot of your range. Esp moreso if it were double-suited. Prob x'cing QJ- and betting KQ+, double backdoors, oesd's, KJ, etc.

I like a check a lot better if there's a flush draw on the flop, sure.
