2/5 game, table JUST opened.

V is probably mid-late 20's. Wearing a brotank, some tattoos, and a douchebag Mohawk haircut. Looks like he's on crack or wacked out TBH.

Effective stacks ~$350

Couple limps, V limps OTB, (he throws in a $1 chip, then after like 10 seconds slowly reaches back and puts out a $5), Hero wakes up in the BB with QQ, and makes it $30, folds to V who grabs $30 and slowly puts it out there. (Putting out $35 total)

Flop (70)
J 10 6

Hero bets 45, villain looks down, slowly counts to 3 on his fingers, and calls.

Turn $160
J 10 6 - 8 (2 )

Hero checks, V tanks, and checks.

River $160
J 10 6 - 8 - 5

Hero bets $65, V grabs $150 in greens and just slides them out there
Hero...?

Gross. I think it's a must-call at a new table and lacking reads.

We aren't good here all that often, but villain's line also makes zero sense. And when his line makes zero sense, that increases the probability that he's making a weird move with a busted draw.

I would check the river for pot control and as a bluffcatcher. Being OOP on this board texture, our hand is really only worth betting on the flop. If I was going to fire a second bullet it would be on the turn to charge draws.

This, I would have bet the turn and checked the river, you block some draws and have a draw yourself, i don't mind a turn bet and river check, your hand looks a bit like a normal continuation bet and then an attempted river steal. I also reluctantly call, its a little strange, what hand checks turn then raises river on a seemingly blank card.

Also lol @ "V is probably mid-late 20's. Wearing a brotank, some tattoos, and a douchebag Mohawk haircut. Looks like he's on crack or wacked out TBH."

Can anyone explain what's going on here?

I'm betting every street, to set up a river shove.

I'm calling river.
I think I bet turn and maybe bet river, maybe check river planning to call almost any bet.
Hard to put V on Q9 straight here and it doesn't feel like he flopped two pair or turned two pair.
He could have a lot of hands but I'm probably weighing AJ as among his most likely holdings. We don't know how he plays since it's a new table so we don't know if he raises TPTK on flop or what, but given that AJ, KJ feel like a big part of his range, call.

I like $50/$55 maybe even $60 OTF, especially if he just "took a hit"...
Don't really like or get the turn check, 8x is a bad card to barrel but I think a great card to bet for value as it'll give some part of his range a little more equity=he's not folding yet.

When you Vbet river, what range of hands are you targeting?
AP
Probably throw a red chip over the line and have dealer announce call.

x2. I'm also making it $40 pre if there's 3 limps.

OP - Why did you check turn and bet so small on the river?

OP, why did you check the turn?

As others have said, bet/bet/shove and I don't think it's even close.

We have an overpair, 70bb effective, a decent sized pot OTF and a villain who appears to be developmentally and/or chemically impaired.

Bet/bet/shove baby.
