2/5 I want to make a ridiculous fold preflop

Straddle is on $500 effective

Game is 11am on a Wednesday

Villain is unknown really old man who looks like a nit, but never played with him before and the game just opened.

Hero is young white guy with AKcc

Preflop, villain limps $10 UTG, BTN limps, hero raises to $55 from SB, villain raises to $120, BTN folds, hero?

Hero should maybe reconsider 3 betting UTG opens from ancient unknown old men.

Right.

Ya that would be pretty nitty. If you assign a range and calculate your odds it's not tough to figure out. This usually boils down to whether or not you think he ever has AK or QQ.

Folding is not crazy here since AA is by far his most likely holding here even with you having the AKs. Even if your read is wrong and his range is slightly wider, you aren't in a great spot here.

In real time I probably can't fold it and I would probably call and fold if no A or K comes on the flop.

Re: 2/5 I want to make a ridiculous fold preflop

No way can I find a fold here. Even if we narrow Villain's range to AA or KK, you have 23.2% equity. If you add in QQ, JJ, and AKs you are up 40.3%

Post-flop if we miss entirely we can reevaluate.

Re: 2/5 I want to make a ridiculous fold preflop

I don't like our odds of being up against QQ- and that's only for a flip as I'm pretty much certain this is never AQ- V looks committed so I doubt we can force a fold from his AK if it is even in his range. We don't have much upside gii preflop here.

I don't much like calling to fit/fold the flop, though I can see myself doing it in game. If we gii we're chopping or dead to AA or a set. If we overtake villain it's really hard to get any more chips out of him. I can see myself calling with more of a read on this villain but readless I think we have very little upside going this route either (a chop or the dead money).

Fold is therefore reasonable in my opinion.

Re: 2/5 I want to make a ridiculous fold preflop

against an unknown 50bb effective I jammalammadingdong here. calling the 3b sucks imo and lol @ folding. unless we know this is only AA, we have the proper equity to continue on.

if we can get a fold occasionally from JJ/QQ, even better.

Re: 2/5 I want to make a ridiculous fold preflop

If you like $$$ just fold.

If you want to gambooooollll.... flat and see if you can get a dirty flop and make him fold his AA.

KQJ or QJT (and lol, you flopped the nuts and he folds! LMFAO) or QQx or w/e. Maybe there's a 10% chance he just pitches the rockets in your face.

lulz.

It may be the case that shoving is better than folding, but I think it's at best a close decision. A fold would not be "ridiculous" at all.

On phone but what is our equity vs AA KK AK QQ? That's the absolute tightest range possible for this guy and I bet we have correct odds even vs that

IME, the 11am UTG limp-3b from octogenarians is 99.9999% AA and 0.0001% ATC that looked like AA to 80 year old cataract afflicted eyes.

Fold.

I would be very surprised if the OMC has anything other than AA/KK. He probably has exactly AA, given how small he L/R.

an unknown old man who looks like a nit limp/3betting from UTG in a straddled pot is an easy fold. Yes, for some people their ego's won't let them fold but it is what it is.

KK is debatable, probably a mix of l/rr and l/c. QQ I would assume l/c.

I would expect to see AA here >90% of the time.

2/5 I want to make a ridiculous fold preflop

I guess in my experience an old man coffee who likes to l/rr is l/rr'ing with KK and QQ (and even 99-JJ) a fair amount too ESPECIALLY when there is a straddle

Obviously if you're 100% sure the guy isn't doing this with anything other than AA it is a fold but I just can't put him on that range.

Re: 2/5 I want to make a ridiculous fold preflop

This happened to me like 2 days ago. 160 year old man isn't getting aggressive with QQ and isn't getting cute with 88 or JT. This is AA 80%, KK 19%, and 44 that he thinks is AA 1%. You're never flipping and the only question is how badly you're crushed. If you call and hit the flop, congratulations - your 1 pair is now losing to a set or an overpair.

If you absolutely have to, ask if he can beat nines, then look disappointed and fold.
