1/2 NL. Seven handed table.

Hero($470 stack) (UTG +1): Tight aggressive, has been having a very good day to this point.

Villain (SB): Late 20's/early 30's WG. Has been at the table for just five hands, and won one where he jammed on the flop to a bet with an overpair (QQ) and won. I have no tells on him, and the only thing I know about him is that he used to deal at the charity room I'm at because he got a warm welcome from the floor and all of the dealers, and that he has played in a few WSOP events.

UTG folds to hero who looks up to A A. Hero raises it to $13 and action is folded around to villain who flats, and BB folds. Total preflop pot: $28

Flop comes K Q 10. Villain checks to hero who bets $25 and villain flats. Total flop pot: $78

Turn is 8. Villain checks to hero who bets $60. Villain raises to $160. Hero?

Spoiler:
Hero folds and shows his hand. Villain mucks and a little bit later says "I didn't know what to do when I flopped the nuts." Bluff?

I would fold without ace of spades...depending on how often he calls draws you can check turn and reevaluate river. Don't put spoiler there, I didn't look but people will.

I play it the same. We don't really have any solid reads on villain and I don't think he's messing around when he makes it that sizing. Plus, I assume they're more passive and raise the nuts until I can get a better grasp on their game.

Thank you for your responses. I am glad to hear that my fold is agreed upon. Going forward, I will not post hand spoilers in the op.

Check back turn. Why do you want to bet?

Check the turn...or bet less.

Absolutely think we have to check the turn here. What worse hand are we getting to call here and what better hands are getting to fold? Flatting from the SB has a lot of broadway combos and Axs that even before the turn are probably not going away, much less after the turn. About the only hand worse that might call but this would be a rather spewy line is AK no spade. Take the free river and depending on the bet size sigh call the non spade js, everything else is a fold and saves you 30bb.

Insta fold as played, should have checked. This is a bad flop and bad turn. I know you are trying to protect against villain drawing with Jx or a single but you also hate a x/r here and even if he just calls you're often just building a pot for him to donk on the river.

So just check here to control the pot and probably call a river bet depending on the usual things.

ETA: the great thing about a check here is that if he has something like KJ and the river is a blank you encourage him to make what he thinks is a value bet that you can snap off. You also have the chance to make a thin value bet when he checks river with stuff like JT. Often he will in fact be betting a better hand on the river, but you have an easy fold when there's a bad runout and even if it's a blank and you call, you limited your loss to about the same as a bet/fold on the turn while making it to a showdown.

Wow, kind of amazing how much easier this hand plays if you check turn!

I fully realize now how bad of an idea it was to bet the turn. Thank you everyone for pointing it out and explaining why. I should have known at the time that it was not a good idea to bet, but I am glad that going forward I will not make the same mistake. I hope he was not bluffing, but if he was, it was a great bluff.
