Love the value bet on the turn. I understand the river is where people forgo the most value but what are we expecting to get value from on the river? That's why I'd have checked back to showdown.
Agreed pre should have been a 3 bet.

On the river, I WAS NOT betting for value. It's highly unlikely that he would call with worse (remember, he seems to stay away from big pots).

If he had 2pair+, I'm nearly 100% sure he leads or c/r my turn bet, so I'm left with beating missed draws (my river action is irrelevant then), relying on about 40% eq vs his made hands, or bluffing out his weaker holding that beat mine.

I can't do this vs a thinking player b/c I'm repping a narrow range that's filled with air, but vs this guy, I thought is was the right play at the time. Still not sure about it though.

The problem is that you don't gain anything by betting out his missed draws. You actually lose because some percentage of teh time he'll decide to raise and you can't call. You've established that you have 40% vs his made range, but that's not your equity against his calling hands which you should be more concerned with. I don't think you fold out enough made hands to make up for the amount you lose when he calls or raises.

That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Thanks for the input.

Re: 1/2 line check with a little sdv

The turn card is a great card to barrel to get him off Tx and JJ (or take down the pot against a hand like AK or AJ) when he checks it to you. A strong hand isn't check/calling the turn then checking the river, making this brick a perfect time for a 2nd barrel.

Spots like this are exactly why we emphasize the importance of position. We're wasting it by trying to get to showdown with 3rd pair after he shows weakness. This hand was played very well by OP.

The only thing I would change is the bet sizing. A turn bet of $35 followed by a river bet of $80 probably accomplishes the same with a little less risk though there is something to be said for reaching the $100 bet threshold, I suppose.

Thanks for all the opinions guys. I'm trying to move from simple ABC poker (not fps) and look for more areas to get value.

I'm sure you seasoned guys know that it doesn't happen overnight. I'm working through the process. It's good to bounce ideas off other players.
