Stack:
Hero: $225
SB: $175
MP: $190

I have been playing tight. First hand in 45 minutes but I don't think anyone has noticed that fact. There is 6 limps to me in the BB. I have AKcc. I make it $25 to go and get the SB and MP to call both are loose passive and both like to call a lot.

Pre-Flop:
6 limpers. Hero raises to $25 with AK SB and MP call.

Flop: 795
Pot is $87
SB checks, Hero?

My plan is to check and hope that I get lucky. That is how I feel about this game.

Is there a better play? A ton of how I lose money comes from hands like these.

Maybe I should ask in the beginners questions. Can this thread be moved there?

With 2 callers preflop and a very marginal flop this is a situation where I would favor checking. You need to c-bet this occasionally but the pot is already big and it's easy enough for a caller to hit this flop or have an over pair that the c-bet is probably around 0EV. Once you c-bet your hoping to hit and even then mostly check down and keep the pot small. This sort of hand is a good example of why even pros expect to lose money in the blinds in the long run.

Preflop if I had a read on the table and I expect the raise to $25 was going to get muliple callers I would just limp preflop some of the time. This isn't for balance or mixing up play, it's just to keep the pot small when I have a drawing hand OOP. It has it's own set of problem when I hit and can't tell if I'm facing a strange two pair but it can be better then facing this.

Weak tight. This is why I hate poker. I can't win unless I actually hit a hand which defeats my aim of trying win. I'm merely at the mercy of whatever cards I get dealt and what improves my situation on the flop. Neither of which I am in control of. I feel like I am waving a white flag 80%+ time post flop. My starting hand is never strong enough to ride the wave of callers on the flop, turn and river. Therefore I play like them. Seeing cheap flops hoping to hit monsters. The only difference I see is I don't limp in with as wide a range as they do but so what? What difference does it make in the long run if I limp a hand like KJdd when they limp J7ss but neither of us betting out into 3 calling stations. I also need to hit the flop. I struggle finding an edge in these games outside of my cards. My edge seems to only be fat value betting and folding everything else. Its not often I get a hand to value bet. I actually feel asleep at the table because I was reading my book waiting for whatever a good hand looks like.

It isn't weak/tight. But yes, at these loose/passive/stationary and medium-short stack loaded low stakes tables you will often get bored waiting for hands worth playing. With multiple callers and a bunch of stations at the table somebody is probably going to hit every flop and if you didn't then you mostly just check/fold.

In the long run a lot of your edge in these games comes from having the discipline not to let getting bored cause you to play badly.

Do you recommend any reading material? I've read Catch 22 at the table. I'm looking for a new book. I got the Dice Man. Perhaps audio books is the way to go.

Have you read through every thread on this subforum? Do that, then go make some pairs and bet them. Come back and let us know. Seriously.
