Trapping ultra-LAG, 15/30

15/30 at Oaks, 10-handed.

It's my first time at this level, so I'm a bit nervous, and I've never played with most of these folks. After a couple rounds, the villain on my right appears to be ultra-LAG. He's been playing about 60% of his hands, and raising with 30% of them.

How do you handle a player like this? My plan is to wait for good cards and isolate him. But what to do when you catch a tiger by the tail? Ex:

Hero opens with KK UTG. Folds around to villain on the BB, who 3!. Hero caps.

Flop is 345. 8 small bets.

Villain bets. Hero raises. Villain 3! Hero caps (?).

Turn is 2. 8 big bets.

Villain bets. Hero calls (?)

River is A. 10 big bets.

Villain bets. Hero calls (?)

Adding: Realizing now that since we were heads-up, first "caps" should be "hero bets, villain calls". Second "caps" should be "calls".

So you never put in 4 bets preflop or on the flop?

I think the way you originally posted it, where you 4! preflop and the flop is the best line.

You're fine, nh.

Even at the absolute top end of his range on this flop (55, I'd figure), you got there on a chop. And given description of villain, he's just as likely to be going wild w/ 77.

River probably screwed you and not him.

I put in four bets preflop. I think I just called his 3! on the flop.

Re: Trapping ultra-LAG, 15/30

Vs this guy you have to go to showdown because a lot of these dudes play TT - QQ this way so you have to go to showdown.

That's just wicked awful beat. What a horrible player! But man a real dandy too ... Great seat selection IMo.

What you do in this case is forget this hand (it's just one hand after all and you played it fine) and know that you've identified the first of the players in your new game that you want to get on your right.

If your plan was to raise safe turn cards, then I think you played it fine. If your plan was to just call down on any turn/river I think you might have missed some value.

Re: Trapping ultra-LAG, 15/30

I think this has become a bad beat story. Plenty of good advice to read here, so let's go hit up some threads with poker content. MApoker, think about using the LC thread for the "Aces got cracked posts". Gl at the tables.
