Fair point on the kids.

But otherwise, if you're going to pay out the ass for housing, at least live in SF.

And I don't know if it's true at this point, but at least until a couple years ago, there were still some (comparatively) affordable places in the East Bay that were worth living in.

Am I the only one here who's ever lived in a cool neighborhood in the middle of a big city? The point is that you can walk to pretty much everything you need, or take public transpo to anything you can't walk to. Probably the most enjoyable times of my life have been when I lived in those kinds of places.

There are actually fun places to go to in the city--not Walmarts and Home Depots. You tend to have a lot more friends, as everybody goes out and does social things together instead of sitting in their living rooms watching TV.

Gotta disagree with you there. It's pretty tough to beat the weather around the Berkeley area. The south bay routinely gets into the 90s. Not here.

I think there are substantial cultural differences. For example, I would not want to live in most areas in LA (note what I said above about walkability and cool local neighborhoods). Ditto for a lot of cities in the South and Midwest, with some exceptions (I do like parts of Chicago).

Me and OTR sharing a fantasy football team. 5 teams (10 team league) are crossbooking with us. I've never been more excited about a season in my life as we somehow got this team:

Nick foles
Matt forte/ Alfred Morris
demaryius thomas/ josh gordon (after suspension overturned)
Keenan Allen (flex)
Gronkowski.

I don't want to walk somewhere or ride a friggin' bus while humping a gallon of soda, or letting my pizza get cold. I wanna drive, and park when I get there.

Obviously I'm not going to Walmart or Home Depot for fun. Well, okay, Home Depot is fun, for males at least. But I can find the crap I need to buy with ease, and at lower cost than everywhere else.

South Bay is pretty big, and parts of it get hot. Hot enough to grow wine grapes, obv. But parts of it are very moderate, which is where I'm lucky enough to spend most of my time. Berkeley weather sucks, imo. I drive through it every weekday. Many a day I leave home with sunny skies and get to Berzerkeley to see clouds, fog, wind, rain, etc.

Ja, had a helluva 4th quarter.

Early probs looked like they weren't completely his fault, I saw he got sacked 5 times in the first half?

OK, well to each his own; clearly, you have a very different set of tastes and preferences than I do.

Wow, wish I could crossbook against you fish. Forte and Thomas are solid. Gronk is also solid. Foles is an LOL idiot pick. Morris is average. Allen is like lol do you never watch football in your life. And Gordon is a lottery pick. GL

Pick any team in league and we can xbook as big as you want (max $25 point, or we could do $100 week H2H or something).

Sounds like you have a solid grasp on football pope.

Yeah, pig4bill appreciates the only place in the nation with both Walmarts and parking, while you live in the disease ridden slums of a city whose main claim to fame is being the married lesbian capital of the world.

The only good thing I can say about living in the suburbs is that the monotony of it has encouraged me to play enough poker to rack up a significant win in 2014.

Sanity Check:

I flopped top and bottom pair, and got to cap the flop, and raise the turn 7 ways.

River pairs a middle card.

If we're OOP this is a 100% c/f, yes?

depends

My friend and I were talking about a pretty noteworthy spot in the midstakes limit games at Foxwoods last week, and he mentioned that said spot told him that he had lost over $1 million dollars in his life playing poker.

Makes me wonder how many people are losing these preposterous amounts, and why some of them keep playing. Said spot, for example, isn't a rich person. There are others I know who get killed regularly who don't exactly strike me as high income.

anybody planning to be at ocean's today (Monday) or Wednesday night? I may make a pilgrimage if work cooperates
09-08-2014 , 02:06 PM
I'm not surprised that someone would have lost over a million dollars playing poker, but I am surprised that he realizes it and keeps playing. He's not a rich person....because he plays poker.
09-08-2014 , 02:37 PM
I bet if you were to tally up the total costs of any hobby over a lifetime, you'd get sticker shock. A million dollars is a little excessive but a typical person probably drops a hundred grand on a hobby.
