Just one of those days.
So i just sat down at an 8/16 table have played a few hands. Nothing shown down. I have played alot with both villains as one is an older gentleman that has a game plan of only raising hands on any street with two pair or better. I have played hours with him and never seen anything less(utg+1). The other is a pretty tricky tag player who is a 15 reg. (button)
so heres the hand.
(the players mentioned are utg +1 and on the button.
I am in the bb.
the action goes. 4 limps to me in the bb. I look down to red AA and raise. Everyone calls.
NOTE: the sb mucked his hand weird and it flipped up a3o.
The flip comes 789 with two spades. I bet. UTG raises. Folds to Button who 3!. and I... fold?
At the time I was not sure if this was the right play or not, but i couldn't see any hand i was actually beating at the time and figured I was drawing way to slim with only 1 a left in the deck and it being the A of spades
So is anybody else ever folding this or am I much worse at poker than I thought?

Re: Just one of those days.
Plenty of 8/16 players are 3-betting there with an overpair that you beat - or even a hand like T9 that you beat.
That said, if you're entirely positive that the old man never raises without at least 2 pair you might consider laying it down.
Me? I'd almost always cap it here as old men also play hands like KK, QQ, JJ, or TT that way.

Re: Just one of those days.
Cp has a 5 bet cap so, does that change anything?
Best case scenario they all just call the 4!, how are you playing against a brick turn raise?

Re: Just one of those days.
Hmm. Yeah it does, but I still like a re-raise. If Old man 5-bets then you know you're beat.
Otoh, you can call 2 bets back to you and see what old man does. If he just calls and the turn is a blank you might consider C/R the button to get old man to fold. I wouldn't credit a laggy 15 player with anything more than a pair, and getting old man to fold a possibly better hand would be huge.
Truth is it's an ugly flop for your hand and it hits their ranges pretty hard. This is a tough spot, and unfortunately it happens pretty often.

Re: Just one of those days.
welp, i doubt that 10sessions is indicative of villain having 100% 2pair+.
as lagitup has said, he could also have other pocket pairs being utg and old/nitty.
we are also well ahead of the 15game reg.
i would 4bet the flop for value here as there still seem to be a lot of hands we are ahead of. where as waiting to the turn may stop us from raising on say a spade thus losing out of that extra sb.
5bet cap does not change anything in my mind except how we play thereafter should they choose to use that option.
against your brick turn raise scenario where we 4bet and are flatted in two spots i would make a decision based of pot odds drawing to our last ace and possible 2pair outs. if we have enough to call, call and i'd fold the river.

Re: Just one of those days.
Call the flop. Make your decision predicated on the turn card and the action it generates.
Remember, somebody usually has JT, tho.

Re: Just one of those days.
If your read is good on UTG+1, I don't think a flop fold is that bad. I tend to doubt my reads enough to call the flop and see what happens on the turn though.

That is a flop that will get 3 bet frequently by naked top pair with one spade, flush draws, pair and straight draw, TT or JJ. As mentioned by others, unless you know both villians to be total nits you need to see a turn card and re evaluate.
Run some stoves, you'll be surprised with your equity against ranges that include all those hands. You'll lose the hand the majority of the time but your equity will change a lot on the turn.

Re: Just one of those days.
I think I call the flop and see what transpires on the turn. The pot is reasonably large and I would like to see if we can dodge a terrible turn for a chance to win it. This is also the type of flop that can generate a lot of semi-bluff action but people will almost assuredly play more honest on the turn.

Re: Just one of those days.
I like the fold given reads. You might be winning at the moment but I think you end up with the best hand a small percentage of the time. The 3! Could be a semi bluff but I think the old man already has you beat with 2pr 80% and jt the other times.
Another thing is your only check calling, there is only one way you will put a raise in and that's the case ace and a board pair. Not much ev in calling the 3! Gf IMO.

Re: Just one of those days.
Sounds like you saved yourself a bunch of money. As Kenny said, even if you're ahead, you probably won't be by the end.

I've twice seen people fold Aces face up preflop because it was an 8 way pot and 'even though they're ahead they probably won't be by the end'. Made no sense in that situation, and I don't think it makes sense in this situation either.
You need to see the turn and play some poker.

Re: Just one of those days.
I think you can play poker on the flop and fold, though. One of my friends aggravates me SO MUCH at the table, because he'll just call down with a hand where he knows he's beat, but he wants to show how bad he got screwed. (Like KK with a flopped Ace) It doesn't make any sense if you know you're beat.
That said, no way I'd fold aces PF in a cash game.
