Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas

JFC, the LHE gods are conspiring to give me an ulcer.

Third straight session of an absolutely donktastic 20/40 game. Seriously I don't know if it is the holiday or what, but the games are great. There is nothing better than a run or bad cards, except for a run of bad cards that is punctuated by an awesome 2nd best hand in a massive pot.

There were two times that I was so confused by the hand that I saw on the river that I unintentionally slowrolled the loser. Once was a guy who opened / 4 bet 67s UTG, raised no pair on the flop, just called when hitting a pair on the turn and just called when making two pair on the river.

So the table is a mix of just awesome weak tight spots, LAGs and the like. Last orbit I raise a couple limpers with QhJh otb. Flop is Th9h2c and they all call. Turn is 8h and the woman to my right donks. So the issue is that she is super, super passive. Like this is 100% a flush and probably the nut flush. So I raise, everyone clears out and she just calls down with AhKh.

FML. I feel blessed to have a middling session.

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas

O8 games are fantastic.

One guy c/r the turn AND river multiway with A2xx on a board of Q86-6-T thinking he had a low.

He also bet the river with A42X thinking he had two pair on a board of AQ4QJ. He announces two pair, I show a straight and then someone tells him he has the nut flush.

Sounds standard for HG. I have a good one - I raise AK vs limpers, flop is K96 - they c/c, turn is a 6, 2 players c/c, river is a 9. One bets, the other raises and I fold. They both had 89 - so drawing to 1 out to split the pot between them and got there.

Yesterday I watched a woman think for a minute before cold calling 3-bets preflop with 68o - and of course she rivered a gutshot vs Aces and Queens.

The day before I had a guy call the flop with K2 on an AQ6 board vs my AQ. He caught running Kings to win - and the best part is he didn't even raise the river!

I'm just glad the games are still so great!

Happy 4th Tom Frond!

I didn't think there would be a show as good as the Wire. Then I finally started watching Breaking Bad. Almost done with the 3rd season in under 2 days...

I have no life.

I am all caught up on Mad Men, so I pretty much have to start Breaking Bad now.

Where can I economically get the episodes now that I canceled Netflix?

I bought this again for funzies, hadn't read it in 5 years.

I consider the preflop chart a little too vague. Example: Tight game, 3-5 players to the flop. Chart recommends playing any pair in middle position (cutoff, hijack, lowjack) and raising 99+. The chart doesn't seem to account for changing openraise frequencies if there are less limpers in front. Like if I have 77 and it's folded to me in the hijack I'm obviously raising instead of openlimping.

Also, and this is a more "in general" critique, but it seems like the book's recommendations for openraise ranges are a little too tight in late position. I guess the book is establishing all of the ranges under the notion that there are multiple limpers in front.

I think they are assuming that you know to open 77 in the HJ....

About a year ago I went through a "limit is dying so I'm only gonna play NLHE" phase.

But then I watched a few rounds of commerce 8/16 that played similar to this and begged the Limit-Gods for forgiveness.

Not to say that I'm not actively pursuing getting better at all forms of the game, but if this is LHE in its death-throws I can't imagine how good the game used to be........

Sometimes I think all the "limit is dead" grousing is people just being bitter that 20/40 and 40/80 doesn't play like 2/4 and 4/8 anymore.

C'mon, no boom is sustainable forever. California LHE looks pretty good to me, but then again I wasn't playing five years ago.....

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas

Both games are dying at CAZ (at higher limits). Used to have multiple 3/5 NL games and one 5/10. Lately a 5/10 regular has been putting a majority of his hours into 20/40 because 5/10 rarely goes and even doesn't always sit in the 5/10 because the 20/40 is better.

20/40 is booming at CAZ, but it is the ceiling. Rarely get a 40/80 or above hold'em game going, and usually only one game above 20/40 is going and it is mixed, and with my skillset the game rarely looks good. And when hold'em does start above 20, all the top players are obviously in it with one or two soft spots.

As someone who has crushed 20/40 for multiple years but has never had longterm success above that level, it is a little sad that I may never get to say I am a winning regular at a level higher than 20/40. Almost a forced Peter Principle if you will.

I hear the same from friends in AC who say ALL games are dead right now.

I think it has a lot more to do with the general state of the economy than LHE vs. NL. People just don't have booku bucks to sling around right now.

Just got back from a resort town in the mountains close LA. I couldn't believe how many of the high end rentals were sitting empty......

Boom and bust my friends, boom and bust.
