I usually say "sorry bro, i'm just here to have fun, if I were any good at poker I'd be playing (whatever highest game is going at the time)."

At least you have a purpose and aren't taking it personally. These ppl were at schoolyard level. I've never, ever been the 'induce tilt by any means' guy but it would be soooooooo easy.

One of the bad players finally picked up. Horrible player on my right says 'Oh, that's too bad.' I answer 'If you want him to stay being nice might be more effective.' To which he answers 'Nice isn't in my nature.' Loooooool, that wasn't true and he took it back later but it just goes to show how sensitive some ppl are to even the slightest criticism.

Then you have to pay for your education and it'll be worth it for when you move up if you plan to. Pick a few of the better players and pay close attention to what they are doing. And you'll have to think above the 'I've flopped nut flush draw v. 6 players, what should I do' level. It's a lot more important to be able to narrow down ranges, get more into the meaning of the bets and raises, and ramp up your own aggression.

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas

Looks like FTP funds might finally be coming back.

Someone give me some words of encouragement. I am headed back for a couple sessions this week after back to back -30BB outings.

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas

Played limit hold'em for the first time ever last night as I attempt to expand beyond the big bet games. It was my first live experience playing any non big bet game. Got crushed. I have a very solid win rate in both NLHE and PLO, so it wasn't a very comfortable experience suddenly being the fish. Any advice as to good limit poker books or online literature? I have no idea whatsoever how to play - one thing I suspect is that I my NLHE experience was making me overvalue starting hands with high implied odds.

You could try reading this thread and "reversing" the advice.

2K POST – TRANSITIONING OVER TO THE DRAK SIDE: A GUIDE FOR LHE PLAYERS MOVING TO NL

What stakes is your LHE game? Live or online?

Thanks, maybe I'll check out that thread. LHE is 10-20 live, lineup on the first night this game was spread (prior to last night it has been exclusively NL and PLO where I play) seemed fairly tough, but I'm not in a good position to assess that yet.

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas

Ed Miller's Small Stakes LHE book is probably the best starting place.

The FAQ here is good.

Your immediate odds in LHE are better and your implied odds tend to be much worse. LHE is a game of thin value betting and not worrying about getting value owned as much. OTOH, when a live nit raises you on a big street, one pair is still not a great hand.

The above looks very helpful for this particular game per amazon reviews - thanks a lot, I'll order it. And thanks for the general advice - it's not going to be an easy transition after 6 years of exclusively big bet games.

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas

So why do it? It is much, much easier to find NL games, even in California.

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas

I'll still be playing mainly NL and PLO, just want to start expanding little by little into mixed games, both for curiosity/enjoyment of learning new games and because I suspect if online ever comes back to the USA they'll become more popular, I want a head start

I'd like to know also but it may be that the big bet games are getting worse/drying up. At CAZ there are fewer of the 3-5 spread games (down to 2 or 3 as opposed to the 7 or so I used to see on the board) although the 2-3 is still popular.

NEWAY, we had a woman sit in our game a while ago and she said she was very nervous bec she normally played the 2-3 but was going to try and learn limit. We mentioned that bets go in a LOT faster in limit and she answered 'That's what I'm nervous about.'

OP, that's the premiere book on low limit HE but you can browse some of the others if you can make yourself visit a bookstore and then ask about them on here.
