Boy's trip for some. I'll be accompanied by three women. Looking forward to Friday night 'cause I do enjoy playing host.

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas
Of course, THIS year they schedule the 2p2 meetup on a Friday.
LAST year, I had it all lined up - my son had a decent, regular schedule so I got permission from "the" wife to go, I had an extra PTO day from work due to some weird accounting thing, and there was a big fat deposit from a Pokerstars shell company in my bank account screaming, "Spend me in Vegas!" ... and then I found out it was on a Thursday, which invalidated the first two points of my plan.
This year, I'm saving my PTO for paternity leave so, yeah, maybe 2014.

Thread locked, now I won't be able to find out what whackadoodle card room that guy plays in where if everybody folds the dealer gets the pot.

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas
Also, that psych paragraph that DougL kindly included in the sticky was spot on tonight. It wasn't me, I was just card dead, coolered, or simply missed every flop but the rest of the crew was playing like lunatics and so many of the players were insulting each other that I was really enjoying it.
Until one dealer told them to stop it which I didn't like and I told him 'What's the problem? They aren't cursing and you are ruining the entertainment.' Guy on my right was one of the worst players ever and was criticizing everyone's play, guy on my left who at least has a clue asks him if he thinks the other players should play better, I whisper 'stfu', it was great.
One of these days I think I'll take the time to write a proper post for the psych forum for B&M play bec I think I've got a decent handle on it.

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas
Happy July everyone.
I'm playing in kind of a weird 8/16 game right now that features some pretty tight aggressive play and some tough players.
It's worth playing under these less than optimal conditions because when the game gets good, its out-of-this-world-good (the game revolves around a few fish and when they show up it gets WILD)
I've realized I am really unequipped to deal with aggression, short way pots, and blind defence/steals etc.
Good suggestions for reading material, pod casts, videos, etc?

Re: July LC/NC -- See you in Vegas
The internet. Get RB on Cake or Merge. Go put $200 on the site that you write off -- this is tuition spent, so the fact that a shady internet site steals it doesn't matter, and maybe you even get it back + winnings later. Play .25/.50 6m for a couple hours, starting with one table.
Now you should have a basis for understanding shorthanded play enough to do some studying. Go to the micros and read their FAQ + library, focusing on six handed (6m). Think about getting WITHG. Go to DeucesCracked and watch BigBadBabar's LHE series. Play a little more to learn to apply what you've read. Even internet full ring games are tighter and more aggressive than your 8/16 live game, I'm suggesting 6m to speed up the learning in the blinds. Don't be shocked that you might be a slightly losing player at the start, even playing for quarters.

I do some quasi level thing when a bad player insults my play. I ask him why is he teaching me and does he really want me to play better? Not sure if it is worthwhile or just for my own entertainment.
