Flopped a set... How many bets to get in? Flopped a set... How many bets to get in?

8-16 game at chips and palace casino. Running into trouble when it comes to fine tuning my betting.

Fold, UTG+1 limps, Call, Hero calls, Fold, Fold, Fold, blinds call
Hero has 44

Flop: 478 rainbow
UTG+1 fires, 2 bet (very very aggressive player), Hero calls??, Fold, Call.

Should I 3! Or try and 2 bet a safe card on the next street when the aggressive player fires again which I'm certain he will. I'm thinking also if I 3! I'll scare away the rest of the action which is pretty weak.

My thought is to not give away my hand strength. I'm pretty sure if I bet here and someone flopped the straight Ill get 4! which would give me lots of information that I need to improve. I guess I'm asking should I drag along weaker hands or try and shut them out right away? Flawed logic?

Would you only try this value baiting maneuver with the stone cold nuts?

Definitely 3bet. If the player is aggressive he has so so so many worse hands when he raises flop. There are a lot of bad turn cards on 478, you want to make the pot as big as possible now.

One big thing to remember about these situations is that a lot of the reason bad players slowplay their big hands is ego gratification. They want to feel smart. Playing a big hand the way any 6 year old could play it may make them the most money, but it doesn't make them feel like they brilliantly deceived their opponents and led them down the rosy path.

You always have to remember that the object of the game is to make the most money, not to feel smarter than the other players. Many times, making the most money is a matter of doing something entirely straightforward. The culture has implanted into all of our minds this line of thinking that poker players make all their money by brilliantly deceiving and throwing off the other players. In fact, that's really only true if you play against tough opponents. Against the typical small stakes player, you make your money by not playing hands that don't have enough equity, by calculating odds correctly and deciding when to play or fold draws accordingly, and by winning the maximum on your best hands and losing the minimum on your second best hands. In fact, it's very hard to deceive people who aren't paying attention anyway.

So really, don't even worry about manipulating and deceiving your opponents in small stakes. Don't worry if you are playing at a level that anyone could play at. You don't have to outsmart them. You just have to do what you are supposed to do, and you will make money. And that includes mashing the raise button on your monster hands.

When choosing a time to slowplay, consider the strength of your opponents' possible hands and the size of the pot. Here, there are possible two-pairs, overpairs, (not to mention straights), straight and overcard draws, and the pot is getting plenty of chips added to it already. Two opponents have shown interest and others might also. Jam away.
