I just got back from a trip to Breckenridge and Vail last weekend. It was about 2 hours driving each way from the Denver airport without any traffic issues (Thursday and Monday). There was a foot of snow Sunday but that had been dealt with by Monday. Our innkeepers also mentioned I-70 is a disaster Fridays and Sundays so +1 to avoiding travel on those days.

Both mountains had an above average base for this point in the season so hopefully that would bode well for later in the season too. December NC/LC/kittens

I managed to accomplish the 3 bet preflop, check/call two cold on the flop, check/call two cold on the turn, bet River when checked to line last night.

I used to come here for a week of skiing a year, every year. Since moving here, I haven't been on the slopes 4 days in the last 5 years. The winter weather is so good on the front range, biking seems so much more fun that bothering with the traffic and the $50-$100 lift tickets. tbf, I guess I've turned down free lift tickets just to bike...

Biking in snow is fun???

Looking around here, I wonder where people get up the courage to grab 20 fun tickets and hit the old 30/60 game. They didn't make the $ playing 2/5/100. With that spread of 6 and 8 games, I'd feel good about the future.
The LHE envronment in the Bay (all of California really) is very strong and I am thankful...lol

Last night's spread looked like this at Bay101 when I left at 8:30:
limittableswait list
3/6325+ (board only shows top 25)
6/12416
8/16*518
20/40317
40/8026
80/16018
1-2-2NL425+
2-3-5NL415
2-3-5NL deep stack215
5-5-10NL112
8/16 O8*112
* half kill game

Regarding the makeup of the games (referring to 6 and 8 here), it is pretty much gambooooool. There are not too many high tech professionals in these games. The 20 and above games obviously have many. To paraphrase Jesse, I'd be utterly shocked if I was not the "smartest" guy in my game 95% of the time. There is one guy who I play a bit with that is an MIT graduate (wears his brass rat) and looks like one of those 70s old school engineers. He is ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL at poker!

Either way, I am still a LHE noob but hope to play 20/40 profitably one day
Different games suit a person's skill and comfort level in different ways.
The 6/12 at Bay tends to be a limp fest and when someone raises, pots still go-off 5 handed all the time. The games are very loose and typically very passive. I hear a few people chuckle and mock my play when I showdown with hands they never expect or "play that way"..lol I mean, how can I raise A6s when folded to in the CO? Or, what am I doing raising QJs UTG+1, or OMG you 3bet 99 or raised AK in the blinds!!!

The 6 and 8 games are often quite different and though they do share quite a few players, there are definitely distinct groups that play primarily only one.

The 6 game as I mentioned is quite loose-passive and pretty much any seat at the table is going to be a good one. The 8 games tend to be more about gambooool and in those wild games, seat selection is critical!

Out of the entire 6 and 8 player pool, I'd be hard pressed to come up w/ 10 regulars that I would say are winners (or even break even) in the game over the long haul. All of the ones I was able to immediately think of (2 props, plus 4 regs) are likely small winners, and all of their edge is pretty much playing tighter than everyone else pre.

That's Jesse.

The other part of Doug's point is totally true. I am in Vegas now. It is Bellagio or nothing.

Luckily everyone at the Bellagio is really drunk.

Getting 12:1 with a BDFD, BDSD, and overcards is a standard peel IMO

For the Oaks regs who are whiskey aficionados (paging Alan Bostick), if you go down the street to Honor Bar at Hollis and Powell, you can get your full selection of Pappy Van Winkle bourbons:

See that bottle on the far left, the 23-yr-old? Yeah, that goes for a bit more than half a chair. Here's your chance to find out what it tastes like without forking over nearly that much.

Curious what it costs for a single? 3 fun tickets?

I think it's $30 for a shot of the 23-yr, $25 for a shot of the 20-yr, and $17 for a shot of the 15-yr. Not sure what the others are.

Too bad they don't have the rye, I'd really really love to try that.

Win and in.

OK so no one told me that the 30 at the Ameristar in Blackhawk is played with $5 dollar chips. Pots were huge. Whomever decided that is genius...the fish must just love it. We even had some railbirds for awhile on a random Tuesday evening.

A sombering post.

Some of you already know, but many of you do not so I thought I'd share a little information about leo doc's situation because he has a lot of friends here.

Leo doc's daughter has been living in Argentina for a while now, and was involved in a car accident while down there last Sunday (the 14th). The driver of the car she was in swerved to avoid a pedestrian and they hit another car head-on. Leo doc's daughter sustained a pulmonary contusion (lung bruise) and head injuries and has been in a coma for the last week and a half. She's been sedated during that time for her own safety, and just recently showed signs of responding to verbal commands.

It's been a tough week for leo doc as you can well imagine. Whatever your religious persuasion, feel free to pray for him and his family during this time. She has been deemed fit to travel, so a plane has been sent to pick her up and bring her back to Vanderbilt to be taken care of there tomorrow.

While many of us focus on poker and other "serious endeavors" in life, let's not forget the truly important things during this holiday season. Hug the loved ones in your life, tell them you love them, and focus on what really matters. My best to all of you and leo doc during this time, let's pray for her safe return back to the States and a blessed recovery.

Thanks for the post Captain R. I hadn't heard about that - will send good wishes to Leo Doc right now. Hopefully things turn out okay.

I don't know leo doc at all other than his wine thread since I am new, but sending my prayers, thoughts and positive vibes. Hopefully she can make it through this.

Captain R; excellent point. Cannot wait to be home with my sig other, nephew and my mom and sister. Gonna have some good food too.

Then play some 4/8 LHE on Friday evening

Best wishes to the Leo family
12-23-2014 , 07:02 PM
That's terrible news (the accident part, not the Vanderbilt part). Wishing leo doc the best.
12-23-2014 , 07:03 PM
My thoughts are with you leo.

Wow, that is heavy. LD, you and your daughter are definitely in my prayers, brother.
