Looking around here, I wonder where people get up the courage to grab 20 fun tickets and hit the old 30/60 game. They didn't make the $ playing 2/5/100. With that spread of 6 and 8 games, I'd feel good about the future.
The LHE envronment in the Bay (all of California really) is very strong and I am thankful...lol
Last night's spread looked like this at Bay101 when I left at 8:30:
limit | tables | wait list |
3/6 | 3 | 25+ (board only shows top 25) |
6/12 | 4 | 16 |
8/16* | 5 | 18 |
20/40 | 3 | 17 |
40/80 | 2 | 6 |
80/160 | 1 | 8 |
1-2-2NL | 4 | 25+ |
2-3-5NL | 4 | 15 |
2-3-5NL deep stack | 2 | 15 |
5-5-10NL | 1 | 12 |
8/16 O8* | 1 | 12 |
* half kill game
Regarding the makeup of the games (referring to 6 and 8 here), it is pretty much gambooooool. There are not too many high tech professionals in these games. The 20 and above games obviously have many. To paraphrase Jesse, I'd be utterly shocked if I was not the "smartest" guy in my game 95% of the time. There is one guy who I play a bit with that is an MIT graduate (wears his brass rat) and looks like one of those 70s old school engineers. He is ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL at poker!

Either way, I am still a LHE noob but hope to play 20/40 profitably one day
Different games suit a person's skill and comfort level in different ways.
The 6/12 at Bay tends to be a limp fest and when someone raises, pots still go-off 5 handed all the time. The games are very loose and typically very passive. I hear a few people chuckle and mock my play when I showdown with hands they never expect or "play that way"..lol I mean, how can I raise A6s when folded to in the CO? Or, what am I doing raising QJs UTG+1, or OMG you 3bet 99 or raised AK in the blinds!!!
The 6 and 8 games are often quite different and though they do share quite a few players, there are definitely distinct groups that play primarily only one.
The 6 game as I mentioned is quite loose-passive and pretty much any seat at the table is going to be a good one. The 8 games tend to be more about gambooool and in those wild games, seat selection is critical!
Out of the entire 6 and 8 player pool, I'd be hard pressed to come up w/ 10 regulars that I would say are winners (or even break even) in the game over the long haul. All of the ones I was able to immediately think of (2 props, plus 4 regs) are likely small winners, and all of their edge is pretty much playing tighter than everyone else pre.
