Growing up, I never went back to school until after Labor Day.

They're trying to gauge interest in year round schools around here.

That would probably be a tough sell to the teachers' union. The three best reasons to be in teaching are June, July and August. imo

They tried that at a couple of school systems in TN. Failed miserably after two years.

Seems to me that expanding a costly public service in a time of severe funding constraints is not a wise policy choice.

We have good schools and people around here are pretty willing to pay for them. You Californians have a skewed view of the world in this regard. We're in the middle of an oil/natural gas boom and in the high tech world around here, we have sub 1% unemployment. Even Jesse would be employable around here, and there is a Google office down the street.

Not sure how to quote from other thread but In response to jesse888 physical reads post.

I've pretty much completely neglected physical reads in poker, particularly thinking about my own routine and making sure it isn't exploitable. It sounds stupid but have you ever videotaped yourself to look for tells?

What are the benefits to slowing down actions? For somebody worried about giving off tells it seems like this would put the spotlight on one's self for longer? I also feel like playing slowly gives the inexperienced players more time to make better at the table decisions.

Re: August NC/LC - Take em to School!

Tilting people in NL is way more profitable than in LHE. Unless you really have an odd style, you should prefer a happy and fast moving game. The feel good gambling game is way better in LHE. In NL, getting someone pissed off enough to stack off with a pair when it clearly can't win seems ++EV. I think Mason talked about this stuff in a 2+2 magazine article, and in my limited NL knowledge, his analysis seemed spot on.

Is there honestly going to be a better time in the forseeable future?

I definitely get tilted like crazy when people play slowly. It would be maddening for me to deal with NL players tanking every hand. I can barely stand it in limit when guy waits for his turn to look at his hand (instead of looking 1 or 2 off from him), thus costing us like 2 seconds every hand.

Re: August NC/LC - Take em to School!

@joesixputt
I play in tempo for the most part but when I get 3 bet on the flop (or facing two bets cold) or raised on the turn or river I have a routine for ensuring that the time I take is fairly consistent. Most times I already know what I'm going to do, either raise or call, but if I'm pondering folding I found myself taking a bit longer. So what I do is look at the pot as if I'm counting it for a second, look at the board for a couple seconds and then I act. This helps mask timing tells against good observant players when I have a history with them.
I will deviate if I have a monster and I'm heads up against an overzealous player who I think may lose his mind and spew another raise in.
