Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

he's not being mean. its a tough field, doesn't mean lots of bad players cant go deep or win it (tourneys are stupid)... f you play the stakes you play you probably shouldn't play it. Having extra 3k to play 20-40 with will likely be more valuable/productive for you. If you are massively over rolled or independently wealthy then fire away, its a fun tourney.

But i think pope was trying to just give helpful advise even if it didn't come across that way

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

Yeah, his last post reeked of douchebaggery, so it's hard for me to think he's trying to be kind here rather than trying to say I'm not good enough to play the 3K, like I'm going in there totally ignorant of the situation.

I am massively overrolled for 20/40, plus I would sell at least half my action for an event like that... or just be put in it if I can find the right backer.

Obviously anyone can win a tournament of any variant really... that's the whole appeal of the game. But it's not like sitting at a NLHE table full of wizards - I would probably get murdered. But LHE? I can hold my own against elite players - both my LHE and 6-max experience are extensive. The majority of this field is really playing LHE every day? I doubt it.

Yes, or most days. Why wouldn't they?

I have no idea how you play so I can't commebt. The 6 max could be good vakue or it could be horrible vakue. But it's tough to hold your own agiasnt elife players when they juice the tourney 10% then you get hit with 30℅ tax on winnings without carryover losses (less kf a ckncern if you file as a pro since you should never have Cary over losses).

I remember one year I sat down and it was a poker stara pro (thank God

But like I said it's a fun tourney and good luck if you play. I think all pope ws getting at is that you seem.verh goal oriented and if you were to play this tourney roughly 90% of the time you are sacrficing 200 hours of your winnings to play it. That's a lot given your goals and aspirations for the year that you posted posTe

There is also a kot of variance with table draws . I've had very soft tables and I've also had a starting table with 1 poker Stars pro (who was dfawig deadd) and 5 people that would all be considered very tough at 100-200 or highe. When II was the 4th best player at a 6 handed limit tourney I wanted by money bsck

Dude that won the bracelet in that event last year is from WA state. I've played with him @ the 20/40 level and he was easily the biggest fish in the game. Perhaps he wasn't taking it seriously - he certainly seemed determined to show how little the money meant to him - but he said a number of things that made me think he didn't understand some pretty basic concepts. He could have been trolling or drunk, or whatever, I dunno. What I do know is that I would be happy to see him in my game again. And he won this tournament. No one should be entering tournaments at stakes they can't afford to lose at anyways, so what's the worry? Tough field? Bring it on.
No, all evidence on the live feed was that the winner was a huge donk. But welcome to FL, where there's probably more "good" players as a ratio of total players than most any other game, and where good players edges are small enough to where guys who donk/3 bet AQ on T88 get to scoop tourneys with tough fields.

This being said, I still might play again in 2017. Not sure yet.

I just don't assume the best players are playing LHE every day like I am. I'm sure this event would have more LHE specialists than a NLHE tournament, obviously, but outside of the west coast is LHE the primary game anywhere else?

Hard to take away from his accomplishments though... he also took 2nd in a $3K PLO 6-max! And then cashed the Main. That's more in a few weeks than the vast majority of poker players will accomplish in their whole lives. I've watched most of the LHE FT and he's playing significantly better than he was when I played with him, which is saying something. Didn't he fold A9 on the button once when it was folded to him? I gasped. This is a dude that tried to troll me for not raising the river with a bluff catcher if I thought I had the best hand. LOL. I wish I watched the stream before I played with him.

I don't kkniw what your past experience entails (any onkine). But even if you are playing everyday if it's at 8-16 and 20-40 you will probably not have any experience vs elite pkYers.

That doesnt mean you don't play very well I have no idea but you probably play good based on he winrates you posted. It's just hard to say you can hold your own vs elite players when you aheb likely never played with elite players

Also while some of these people may not play limit golden daily they have played millions of hands online vs very tough competition

Probably playing nitty because of the $ on the line. Still clearly was playing his own hand and looked like a total TAGfish with some of his plays.

A 3 day tournament is probably at most 1500 hands. Pretty easy to be a significant loser and run super hot in that time frame (as he seemed to do when his donkish "bluff" selections always seemed to turn top pair).

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

Saw one of the more wild 8/16 games in a while on Friday night.

Capped 7-9 ways PF. Capped on the flop 5-8 ways. Started out buried, obv.

Happy New Year!

Btw, you sports bettors, where do we stand on Clemson +6?

I don't sports bet, but given 538's system and this conversion table, I'd take Clemson +6 (since it seems like Nate Silver & co would set the line at Clemson +4).

Close to a coin flip, imo. I'd feel better taking Clemson at +7.

Fair enough.

I started doing this thing to where if I like a line, but not enough to bet it. I do the live betting.

So if bama scores first, the spread shifts. Then I'd bet Clemson at +7.5 or +10.

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

Mods,

So I have had some problems logging in. I tried to request new passwords but didn't get anything in E-mail. I managed to change my passwords on the computer but suspect someone changed my E-mail address (rendering this solution temporary). What should I do?

The correct E-mail should be my username 2p2 at yahoo.

If the account is not retrievable please disable it so nobody can misuse it (e.g., Marketplace). I'll create a new username.

Thanks for any help.

Re: 2017! NC/LC THREAD -- Small Stakes, 40 years to Mars

Wait, I just realized that I can check the E-mail address from the computer. It appears to be correct. However, I'm not getting the "failed login" notices that I usually get (I should have a few), nor the E-mails containing reset passwords.

Also the app on my phone allows me to log in but says there are no threads in any forums, which is obviously false.

I'm not sure about stuff these days. Did you get the long email about the pwd database? If you need help and know someone who knows my digits, feel free to text me. I don't see anything strange in the parts of your profile that a normal mod can see. I believe that Mat Sklansky answers email and his address can be found on google (probably on the whois for this site) if you're locked out. There are limits to what I can do, but I'm in a Skype group with a bunch of mods who can do more. It has helped people on occasion.

I browse in firefox on my phone, and it all looks normal... lol.

As the email said, I'd be super careful about any $ transactions based on skype, 2+2 PM, or related email accounts for a while. We're probably a close enough group that most people know someone who has the other person's cell phone, and I won't personally do any business without actually talking via phone, probably for the rest of a long time.

Debated whether to comment, but I wonder at the self-awareness of this. No idea about your online resume, and maybe you were crushing the Stars 30/60 6m games before Black Friday? You do great in the games you play, and nobody is saying "hey, that TheDarkKnight fellow is bad at poker". As others have said, you're not playing a bunch of elite players at 8/16 and 20/40. That's OK.

There are wizards running around. I've played AvoidThe9to5 HU, and he's way better than I am. OnTheRail15 is more beast than most mortals want to plays cards with. Several other people who play here (say ZOMG and DrOlsen and others) are sick good at LHE. To bravely say "I can hold my own"? Unless you have, you probably can't. Every time I talk a hand with DosXX or DeathDonkey, they sort of shake heads sadly. There are people who are really good at poker. If you're not playing with them already, it is probably safe to assume they're better and work on from there.

Could be you're +EV in the 3K LHE. I took that_pope's comment as neighborly good advice. If you sit daily in the Commerce 100/200 or in the Bay101 80/160 games and crush all comers, then you should probably be offended that he said "pass on a pretty tough tournament." The Monster Stack or the Colossus seem like great spots. I'm getting close to being old enough for the Seniors. The LHE events seem like way tougher once you add in juice, taxes, etc.

No. I have not received any E-mails at all from twoplustwo this weekend, including what should have been two failed login attempts, two requests to reset password, and one actual password change.

It may be possible that this is all much ado about nothing - maybe Yahoo just blocked it all as spam or it's just massively delayed.

*shrug*
