Hahahaha........not tonight. Sunday is 'take mom to the movies and dinner' day.

I haven't ordered bottled water in years. There's a water/coffee station a few steps away and some ppl still order water which is actually $2 w/ the tip.

Well, 20/40 on Sunday night didn't sell me on moving down here. It was mostly a snooze fest with a few players that stopped by and made the game good, but I imagine there are probably good 8/16 games and the 20/40 OE looked attractive also. I hope the 20 game is better on other days. I looked at the Bravo at 9 PM on Saturday night and there was only one 20/40 game going. Eh.

I'm in the 8/16 OE game now and it seems absurdly soft.

If you think that the 20/40 game is meh after a few more samples, you aren't good at LHE
03-27-2017 , 10:37 AM
I would say the game yesterday was a slightly better than average 20 overall. A couple of very good players who would usually be playing the 20 were playing the 40 LHE which doesn't always go.

If you play OE also, that is a big advantage. Being able to game select between the games means you should, on average, be able to play in a significantly better game than someone who only plays one or the other. You'll also spend less time waiting to get into a game.

I would probably spend two full weeks - spaced at least a few weeks apart - before I decided to move or not move somewhere.

If you can't beat the AZ 20 game in December, March, or June, you aren't a good LHE player.

You're going to move there just for the poker? If you think you can live in California (it ain't easy) go visit Bay 101 in San Jose. More 20, 40, and 80 than you can shake a stick at.

Shouldn't you root for people who are not good LHE players to move to AZ?

Eh, I don't play for a living, so I would rather not see more people fail. Trying to be helpful, but me telling someone they suck at poker after they have had so much tourney success won't change their mind. They will stick with it until they are broke and out of the game.

Did you take more time evaluating your other options, or was AZ that vlear that quickly?

It was a short list to begin with and I much prefered Scottsdale over La and vegas for quality of life, took a trip down here and stayed for 2 weeks but made up my mind after 2 days

Quality of life is important and, boy-oh-boy, it's better in Scottsdale than it is in LA or LV.

And cost of living is easily triple what it is in AZ. I think if you have a good job in San Jose, playing poker on the side is great because the games are good and you still have solid income to support living expenses. But being a pro in San Jose is pretty tough because this is one of the most expensive places to live.

Anyone in Vegas?

I might make a cameo at the B prior to heading to Zion, Bryce, Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon.

TR on Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon plz. My wife and I went to Zion and Bryce and we loved both, but I don't think we even considered those two.

Aiyah. You're correct. I'm thinking level 1. You're thinking level 2 or beyond. Touché. Well done.

Are you talking about me? I feel like we've been down this road before. I make my living playing LHE, not tournaments. I had a lot of success at the WSOP last year (in tournaments) and it gave me a massive bankroll boost, but I quit my job comfortably because I have a reliable income from cash games that's been proven over thousands and thousands of hours over the past half decade.

I didn't think the AZ 20/40 game was bad, by any means, but I wasn't drooling over it. I think I am spoiled by the local 8/16 game that is always just full of terrible action players, at any time any day of the week. Perhaps it has given me unrealistic expectations.

We are many years away from making the move so I will get more samples anyway. I can play all the games well so that helps my game selection in a large poker room like Talking Stick. I was definitely eyeing that 20/40 OE but I felt like I should stick out the LHE game since it's my bread and butter and we were likely to make only one trip to the casino.

We aren't considering moving to Arizona for poker, but since it's my job it's a pretty important part of the equation. I like its location relative to Vegas, L.A. and Denver, in addition to having Talking Stick right there.

We were overall pretty sold on the Arizona experience.
