LHE is an extremely soft + profitable game, even at the 100/200 level if you are good. We destroy the LA high stakes LHE scene daily my dude

8/16 live is completely beatable even w\ 6+1 rake, and is an EXTREMELY soft game

We also have 1/2/100 and 2/5/100 spread limit. However, Small Stakes Limit posters have been known to get together in Vegas during WSOP, so I've played a decent bit of Vegas poker.
You barely play these days and you live close to that 30/60 game? Granted, it's a super small sample, but the one session I played there last year was softer than any 20/40 I've ever played in. I see 3 games going all the time - even 1 AM on a Sunday. I want to make it a regular stop throughout the year. Why wouldn't you be grinding that game? You obviously talk about LHE very intelligently.

Re: 2/4 Live Limit: How I wasted my life making less than McDonalds.

You must have played on weekend evenings or a Thursday night. I think most weekdays, there's one table that starts midmorning.

It is an hour and a half to dive each way. I don't stay up late any more. If it is about money, I make more working than can be made in the game. As an occasional treat, sure. It isn't worth it to me to play the game seriously.

Jeese will go nuts to hear this, because his commute is longer.-- three hours in the car is a deal breaker. I'd almost rather fly to Vegas. It is easier in some ways.

Yes, it was a Saturday afternoon/evening in August.

Hmmm... Ameristar has zero games, of any sort, listed on Bravo right now. I don't know what to make of that, but I'm guessing there's a miscommunication somewhere?

Yeah, I wouldn't make that drive either. My 20/40 game is a good 35-45 minute drive (and not all that good a lot of the time) and because of that I typically only play it once a week. Whereas reliably juicy 8/16 is less than 5 minutes away.

I don't know too much of Jesse's story, but if he's playing full-time it seems like he would make a new residence closer to his main casino a priority?

I don't know how much you make at your day job, but a friend of mine - that is the best LHE player I've known personally or played considerable hours with - made $127/hour in that 30/60 game over a 600+ hour sample size. I was pretty startled by that number, but I don't have any reason to believe he would lie about his results, privately, to me.

600 hours over what time frame? If he picks the best 200 hours/year over 3 years, that's really different from 600 hours over the last 650 hours the game has run.

672 total hours. He said most of them were in 2013. I don't care what time frame he posted them, they are still super impressive. He plays full-time though and always had the grinder mentality, so I doubt he was cherry-picking too much.

Only one 30/60 going at Ameristar right now.

Re: 2/4 Live Limit: How I wasted my life making less than McDonalds.

The game effectively has a $7 dead drop. 2013 was closer to when the limits went up, so the game was amazing. Even so, nobody has >2BB/hr expectation in a limit game that big. I'm guessing (knowing a few) a good pro does a little worse than 60/hr in the game long term. If you crush souls at 100/200+ then maybe a little over? You're limited to when the game actually runs and not getting shut out on lists.

Find quantph's blog for a good description of the game more recently.

So I don't think I win more than 60 in that game and there's a 3 hour driving tax to play. Probably also add in showing up an hour early to not get shut out on the list. Day job pays way more... fun treat to go up. Maybe next time when Gobbo is in town. When I was single, the math was different. C'est la vie.

Re: 2/4 Live Limit: How I wasted my life making less than McDonalds.

650 hours is about a 4.5 month time period for me, but that win rate still seems really high for the short term. I have always beat the 4/8 and 8/16 levels for considerably more than what people on here seem to think is reasonable, so I guess part of me thinks more is possible? I would imagine the 50/100 kill should get an expert's win rate over $60/hour in that game.

I guess I got a warped perception because I showed up mid-Saturday and almost immediately got a seat and the game was juicy the whole time I played.

Speaking of Gobbo, I played my first ever sessions with him last month. I enjoyed his entire persona at the table.

those numbers are impressive but that time frame is like 3 months of playiing... if you pick a week that you won 20k playing 30/60 in and look at either the previous 600 hours or the next 600 hours you are going to have a big winrate.

Your hobbies are allowed to just be fun. The tires on my road bike are $50/each with $5 tubes. The chain is $50. You wear out all of those every 1K-2K miles. You could go down the list. Poker is a job for very few people, so "didn't make much money" is an argument that matters little to most of us. Making any money in a 2/4 game is a huge accomplishment, the rake potentially makes zero winners standard. Going into any hobby and looking for it to be a very profitable job seems strange -- you do stuff you like because you like it. If somehow your love of long distance hiking makes you found the next GoLight, then you won the lottery. Winning poker player making it a job is less of a stretch, but out of all the people who enjoy playing...

How profitable is cross country skiing? Do people who do that stop and ask each other "did we make enough for this to be worth it?" I want to break even or not lose enough that my wife doesn't have to ask "how the *** did you lose so much money in 4 hours?" Making money is a fun bonus, but not the point of the exercise.

Does everything have to be about ego? Can't it just be about wondering why the best poster on the forum isn't consistently playing in a game that I have reason to believe is extremely profitable?

True... that makes sense. In the grand scheme of things, 650 hours isn't much to go by.
