Win 10 - update from win 7 or not?
08-14-2015 , 06:29 PM
I did. It seems fine, maybe a little faster, but I miss the transparency effects on the windows
08-14-2015 , 06:41 PM
why is windows offering us this for free? is there some catch?
08-14-2015 , 06:46 PM
I think they want to eventually move to a subscription model, but they won't be deactivating the people who don't subscribe.

OSX has been offering free upgrades for a while now. Not something I would really worry about.

True, but Apple considers themselves a hardware company. They make money of of OSX because OSX it means they sold a Mac. Microsoft doesn't get a cut of the hardware Windows runs on.

True, but it really seems like they are trying to reposistion themselves as a services company. So getting you on Windows 10 makes it easier to see you XBox music, etc.

Then they can monetize everything you use.

I actually like the direction they have been going more lately. It's more open than Apple or Google. They are all evil and i don't like any of them a particular amount, but Google makes me nervous and Apple is too expensive, so Microsoft works...

Hai everyone!

Super awkward situation in home game last week. Playing NL and I get all-in with JJ on 357Jr board against 33. Pot is about $200 which is pretty big for the game (.25/.50 with $60 max BI).

Dealer asks if we want to run it once or twice. I say once. Other guy says twice and had earlier said he was leaving if he went broke again. I say "fine" then "wait, let me think". Another guy says "it doesn't matter because I folded a 3." I say "ok, then it doesn't matter. Just deal." Dealer burns, deals a blank and I think we are done but before I realize what was happening he burns and deals another river. Yep! A 3!

Well, that's awkward. From my point of view, I thought we were just dealing one card to complete the hand but we hadn't really the completed the once or twice decision because we thought it was pointless. Obviously the dealer thought it was twice and the other player thought so too. Another player felt I had indicated once.

The guy who thought he folded a 3 felt horrible and tried to add half the pot so that I could take the full pot and the other guy could get half.

Ultimately I decided that given time I would have agreed to run it twice so we just chopped and the "I had a 3 guy" kept his money.

Moral: "never base any decisions on what people say they folded."

I'm just glad it was a home game where we all are friendly and were trying to work out what was fair and not a casino or more predatory game.

A casino wouldn't run it twice, even if you asked. (Unless there's some really, really overriding reason that it would entertain such an idea.)

Oh Aaron. You're almost as pedantic as I am.

But thanks for acknowledging you read my post.

I fire up some LHE after taking a weeklong break:

3bet from the BTN with 99, one person calls, SB cold calls with K4
Flop comes K48...no need to say anything else after this hand lol

folded to me in the SB with J2s
i raise...BB calls
Flop comes 526
I bet, villain calls.
turn comes 6h
I bet, BB calls
river comes 8s
I check, BB bets, i call. Villain shows J8

I raise T9s from the CO
everyone folds except the BB
flop comes A85
Villain donk bets, i 3bet (cmon, that ace is ALL me!! wtf!)
turn is a Ten
I bet for value, villain calls
river is a 6
I bet, villain calls
villain shows 86 for 2 pair.

How the eff do i make a profit in this game!! UGH!

on a more serious notes;
i think the secret is to put in volume and sort of grind your way past the variance (I'm speaking in regards to 6max LHE)
I'm starting to think my 30min - 1hr long sessions are only good for getting me on tilt and making me bang my head against the keyboard.

1) fold pre

2) fold flop

3) depending on where you are playing the game may not be beatable due to rake
08-26-2015 , 05:28 AM
you would fold pocket 9s on the btn even for a single raise?

also this is the rake. What do you think? Beatable?

Code:
Stakes Rake per Pot Max Rake
$0.05/$0.10 $0.01 for each $0.20 in Pot $0.10
$0.10/$0.25 $0.01 for each $0.20 in Pot $0.20
$0.25/$0.50 $0.05 for each $1.00 in Pot $0.40
$0.50/$1.00 $0.05 for each $1.00 in Pot $0.50
$1.00/$2.00 $0.25 for each $5.00 in Pot $1.00

oh sorry i missed the 99 hand - was thinking j2s as (1) and T9s as (2) and my (3) comment was not in relation to any hand you played

99 i usually always 3b otb pf in a 6h game

is that online? bovada?
08-26-2015 , 07:31 AM
Yep, Bovada.

A few things:

1) we all have leaks.

2) we all have losing streaks.

3) some of us will never understand what it's like to go on a 1k hand heater, never mind understanding what it's like to run at 2+BB/100 for over 70k hands. To experience these upswings, you gotta put in serious volume. That can take months or even years. Only the anomalous select few will run super hot at the very beginning of his or her career. The rest of us must put in lots of hours to experience such massive upswings.

4) you're probably a much better player than you were just a few months ago. In a year, you'll probably be a much better player than you are now. The thing is that as you improve, you'll see diminishing returns on your improvement. There is a winrate ceiling and the more you improve, the more you approach this ceiling and the less your winrate will be affected by improving your game.

5) I has a kitty named Buddy. He's really big and is gray with a white chest and white paws. He's wicked silly and loves to play even though he's almost 10 years old. I got him fourth handed from the girlfriend of a brother of my ex girlfriend. The father of Buddy's household hated cats and swore that he was gonna kill the entire litter of precious kitties. With much haste, my ex's brother and girlfriend saved Buddy and brought him home, naming him "Merlin" ewww what a horrible name for a cat. My ex took in Merlin, but we all agreed that the name didn't fit. We debated the point. "how about Rocky?" I said cus he's from the streets of Brockton Massachusetts a la the great Rocky Marciano. "Nah" they all said. Well the kitty was laying on our friend Jeff's lap at the moment that I said "How about Buddy?" cus he was very friendly even as a kitten. Well his head perked up and he looked right at me and said "Meooowww!" and he got up, came right over to me, and laid down in my lap. He was forever known as Buddy from that point on.

I don't think anything under $5/$10, maybe under $4/$8 on bovada 6max is beatable.
08-27-2015 , 03:24 PM
I disagree with what Breich said. i think it is beatable, but the variance is going to be pretty high.
