Cool Weight Lossaments - Prop Bet (NC)

TL;DR - Make your bet, lose your weight, profit from people who failed.

The Bet:
You have 90 days to lose Your Goal % of your body weight.

If you meet your goal, you will obviously be returned the entirety of your buy-in. You will also be eligible for your share of the pool money from other peoples failures. Your Failure Pool share is proportional to the amount you wagered successfully, compared to other successful wagers.
Your Profit Share: (Your Buy-in / Total Successful Buy-ins) * (Failure Pool)

Note: If you have a lower goal than 10%, you have assume lower risk for this bet. Your share in the profits will be lower as well. In this case, for profit sharing calculations, your Buy-in will modified by (your weight loss goal %) / (10%) . This cannot exceed 100% of your buy-in."

At the end of 90 days, for every % short of your goal you are, you lose that proportion of your Buy-in to the Failure Pool. You are returned the remainder of your buy-in. There is no pool money distributed to failures.
Buy-In % returned: (%achieved) / (%goal)

The Buy-in Amount:
However much you are willing to wager for motivation/profit. Higher profits for higher risk. All Buy-ins are collected on entering into this prop. BigBadBabar is serving as escrow for this bet.

HOW DO I GET IN ON THE ACTION?
1. Reply in this thread using the quote below.
2. Attach a picture of your scale reading with you standing on it. If you cheat, you're scum imo.
3. Ship BigBadBabar your buy-in. Post in this thread saying shipped. His info is in the first reply.
Quote:
Starting Weight: (must match attached picture)
Goal Weight loss %: (most people are doing 10%)
Buy-in Amount: (don't be too nitty, challenge yourself)
Start Date: (No more entries after June 1st)
Finish Date: (make sure this is 90 days from your start date)

I will be distributing profits from the Failure Pool in early September.

Wait....

Couldn't I set a ridiculously low % goal like 1% and then proceed to lose 10% and pwn this thing?

Where is my devious mind going wrong?

Ya'll boys know that I've been watchin' all of this weight loss- body fat- don't take a dump for a week nonsense- right?

I wholeheartedly agree that BBB should serve as escrow agent. (He's done so admirably for me on more than one occasion.) That said, I really, really, really think ya'll need a trained professional to serve as final arbiter of the award.

I humbly volunteer my services.

And btw jesse, if you need that last minute, get-you-over-the-goal-line, lose that extra 1/2 pound right before the final weigh-in, just come join my boy and me for that famous Southern breakfast.

Weigh-in 20 minutes later.

You'd be a lock.

Re: Weight Lossaments - Prop Bet (NC)

I'll think about it. I think my ideal weight is something like -15 pounds flabby + 5 pounds muscle. I'm 5'8" and like 160-165. The problem I have with just weight loss is my body composition would be >>>>>>>>>>>> if I added 5 pounds muscle and lost some fat. But this sort of motivates me to just drop pounds.

Oh paleeeeze! Can you not get the lovely Mrs. Dos interested in a personal weight reduction program for yourself? I'm sure she would be of immeasurable benefit in this regard- as if you even need it in the first place.

We need to talk.

Re: Weight Lossaments - Prop Bet (NC)

I'm confused. If someone sets a goal of 1%, hits it, contributes 100 dollars against my say 400 and avoids 500, and both of us get exactly halfway there, how much money does he get?

Also....initial weighin really needs to be done right after you wake up. I lost 2 pounds last night in my sleep.

Re: Weight Lossaments - Prop Bet (NC)

My guess is $4.50 profit.

He gets 100 back, me and avoid owe $450 total to the pool. He was 10% of the buy in so that's $45, but he only did 1/10th of 10% so $4.50 it is.

I propose a min loss of 5% anyway.

Also am at Commerce and will take my pic and ship my dollars tonight if we can do midday weighins. Else I'll use the figure i quoted yesterday.

Re: Weight Lossaments - Prop Bet (NC)

I'm going to think about this over the weekend, but I think I can propose a scheme which both rewards aiming high and betting high (and making it of course).

For those of us who are (cheap / poor / paranoid about using credit cards on FTP), can we post our goals and weights in this thread anyway even though we aren't betting anything? This would be mostly for the social aspect of the motivation rather than the financial aspect.

He gets zilch, nadda, none. Matter-of-fact, he should get penalized double his buy-in for being such a wimp. I vote min ************ of 5% or you ain't participating... but that's just me.

Anybody up for a side prop bet of most beers drunk in, say, six hours. I get to choose the beer.

Re: Weight Lossaments - Prop Bet (NC)

2 hours fat jesse has a shot. 6 hours and even he'd succumb to your prodigious aerobic drinking capacity. Skinny Jesse no prayer.

Calli I don't think we can modify it much now that avoid has put up 5 bennies. 5% min is reasonable, but changing the formula is probably a tough sell.

And yes by all means post your goals.

for this and related scenarios, if you know anyone irl who plays on ftp, give them irl cash and have them xfer me on ftp. or some related scheme can work fine.

LOL, you must be new here.

I'm pretty sure most of the people in this forum can get drugs you never heard of. And the ones you have, faster than you.

Re: Weight Lossaments - Prop Bet (NC)

Your sarcasm is duly noted.

Also srsly consider ponying up for this guys. Think about it...if you put up $100 and miss by a couple pounds, say 3%, you pitch only $30 into the pool AND get 70% of your share back. Like you'd stand to lose maybe $5-10 if everyone else hit their whole goal.

Re: Weight Lossaments - Prop Bet (NC)

currently, if one dude makes it any everyone else fails, he scoops whatever is in the failure pool. Motivation imo ^_^

(dead money is created when he only gets partial, if he was a 5% or whatever) We'll decide what to do with it if that happens. It's not going to, however. I'm hitting this ****.
