Wondering if my turn action matters much in these two similar hands. In both cases I get raised on the turn by what is obviously trips, the only difference being that I am out of position in hand two. 4/8 LHE.

Hand 1: I open 88 in EP, one cold caller and big blind.

Flop: 8cTcTh

BB checks, I bet, BB calls.

Turn: 4s

BB checks, I bet, BB x/r, I call

River: 9h

BB bets, I raise, he calls.

Hand 2: I open QQ in MP, one cold call and both blinds call.

Flop: 4Q4

I bet, one call to my left, blinds fold.

Turn: 8x

I bet, villain raises, I call

River: x

I x/r, v calls.

I think hand 1 is fine since you have an under full and are in position. Hand 2 I think you need to 3bet immediately.

That was my thought, as the same number of bets will wind up going in anyway and I miss losing one the rare times he checks behind on river.

I think, especially in low limit games, you should forget about waiting a street and put in as much action as possible (at least until you are convinced you are beat) against opponents who may seriously overplay trips.

So just re-raise hand 1.

I usually just reraise hand 1 on the turn, but I don't hate the way you played it. Could be better to slow play in bigger games where the check-raise is more likely to be a semi-bluff anyway.

But I HATE your play in hand 2. Going for a river check-raise is just too risky, as villain might be making the "free showdown" raise. And it is even possible he will 4-bet the turn. Give him a chance to do so.

I definitely agree that I should have just raised turn, but I just do not give most people credit for making any sort of play like a FSDR in these games. He has a 4 here 100% of the time and is just betting his hand.

Maybe it's wrong of me to assume so little from the players, but the player pool, especially on aces cracked day, is just so, so bad.

You never know what is going to happen on the river though. Sometimes a straight or flush will come in and will scare them into not betting their trips. And again, sometimes they will 4-bet you on the turn if you let them. Especially if they happen to have better than trips but still worse than your hand, like 4s full in hand 1 or 8s full in hand 2.

Nice hands, I think 3ing the turn on each is the correct play

Remember, the bet doesn't increase between the turn and river, so the only reason to delay is if you think they might fold to a turn 3-bet.
Or for meta, I suppose, if you plan to take the same line as a bluff sometimes.

I think my standard in a low stakes game is to just 3 bet immediately w/ the full house. Especially since they're often MUSBy enough to not bet a 3rd club on the river.

Though it's definitely fun to wipe the smugness off the turn raiser's face by jamming them on the river.

+1

Until they have a turn semibluff raising range there's really no point in delaying. Also,

And they'll never fold even if free turns into double.
