Let’s do this! How much you bag?

I had about 80k before flopping top set b2b on the last two hands of the night and busting someone both times.

My starting table was a dream. I consider myself a marginal NL player and I was easily the best at my table. Hard to imagine getting that lucky.

83k. No aces, kings, or queens all day. No sets either. I loved my table. Table captain was great at keeping the table lively. No crushers at my table, so I just chipped up slowly.

I had aces like three times. Also had them cracked in the first orbit of an NL tournament for the third time in a row (I busted the other two times). I flopped at least four sets but only got action the last two hands.

I also accidentally raised two limpers at 150/300 to 5400 with KK and almost had a heart attack. If someone happens to wake up with aces there I’m just never folding.

My table draw for Day 2 looks promising so far. I haven’t checked the Hendons yet but I don’t recognize a single name and I have the most chips.

Ah, literally bagged. Yeah, make sure you press hard when you fill out that sheet in triplicate. I thought, "Wow, are they already to the money in the Main?"

But gogogogogogo. You got this.

Is the play in the Main as bad as ever or is the typical opponent getting stronger?

Crap, watching the WSOP on tv has me itching to go back next week. There is the Double Stack mid-week, and the Closer with a big guarantee after.

I very much want to play the $3k HORSE, but I need to go home first or go super deep in the Main to justify it at this point.

Well so this happened. Usual day time gong show in my regular game at my regular room. Tons of table talk and nonsense, as usual. I raise UTG and UTG+1 who is a good natured, loose player and knows I’m overly tight says “that a straddle Hf?”. I laugh and say “yep, straddle is on and you are next”. Dealer announces “no straddle, two bets”, neighbor calls, next guy calls, CO 3!, button 4!, SB calls and while this is happening someone must have jokingly said “cap it”, which is five bets.

So I put out five bets when it comes around to me and the dealer starts pulling in the massive amount of bets that I notice to be 4 in front of everyone. As she is readying the flop I say “hold up, wasn’t it 5 bets preflop”. She says “no it was four” and puts out the flop. I say “I put out five” and she says “no it was four, I counted”. I say “ok we can play out the hand, but I want the floor called when it’s done to check the tape and confirm”. She doesn’t say anything.

This is where it gets weird. After the hand I say “ok, call floor over please” and she says “no”. I am stunned, can only figure that she thinks this is extended goofing around and table talk so I say “I’m not joking, call the floor over - I want them to see if I put an extra bet in pre-flop”. She says “no, I counted them it was right”. I pause, stare and say “are you really refusing to call the floor and making leave the game to to talk them myself”, she doesn’t respond, I get up as she is readying the next hand and immediately get thrown a missed blind button.

I ask to see the shift and she physically winces when I tell her what happened, says “that shouldn’t have happened”, apologizes and gets them on the tapes.

I’ve never had a dealer outright refuse to get a floor before.

You should have stopped there preflop and had the bets counted when it would be fairly simple to recreate the action. I would never rely on the tape backing anything up.

So did you get a bet back? And if so, the winner of the pot had to give it to you?

I just yell "FLOOR!" myself when I want the floor. Few dealers can yell louder than me.

Same here.

I usually just berate the most unstable player until the dealer has enough and calls the floor with no option

New dealer?

[Then the dealer does appalling stuff.]
So yes, the dealer did appalling stuff, but your behavior there wasn't the smartest. Good intentions for not slowing the game down but you really should insist the pot be right before moving on to the next street.

She already counted. Good for her! Now when she cuts out the bets and publicly reconstructs the betting, it will come out correct and she can savor the kudos. Oh, wait, what's this extra bet? The BB was in for 4, so... oops. I guess you really did put in a 5th bet. Sorry.

Most importantly, if you protest before acting on the flop, she has no choice but to get the floor. You hold cards. You might even be facing a bet. Or at least you haven't checked. Those cards are your guarantee that play can't proceed without a floor ruling. Guard them like cash. (See the Casino Poker forum.)

The dealer? Hope she gets progressive discipline and improves.

Obviously not a Seattle reg, since they would insist vehemently that the camera never gets anything wrong, except that time when it did.

Just kidding sorta. You're absolutely correct. Trust no camera.

Yes clearly I should have stopped the action on the flop and not acted until she called the floor over. I could not have stopped the PF action - she was pulling the bets in and short of physically grabbing her I couldn’t stop the action.

She isn’t a new dealer and she occasionally plays this game. I think that the reason I didn’t stop the action on the flop is that I was just stunned - I honestly thought she was joking. And when it became clear that she wasn’t, it was too late. Lesson learned for me.

The floor was dealing with another issue (a player forcibly mucking another players hand at showdown, also which I have never seen) and I had to leave before they decided the issue. If I’m the guy who won the pot I would be pissed - instead of giving me 1 bet back he should have like 5 more bets PF given that I technically capped it.

In this particular room I do not think I have ever heard a player yell for the floor. The dealers push the floor button on the player in/out interface and the floors are actually very responsive. Even the dealers rarely yell for the floor. So one would probably be seen as a total jerk.

I might not have cared as long as the floor came over, given what happened as the alternative.

Sounds like a small room that has only one floorperson?

How were those two occurrences resolved?

Every time someone says “big blind special?”, when I show up with some crap hand in the BB, my new response is “Deal of the day!”
