The more things change, the more they stay the same?

Totally agree with Calli that intergenerational whining is dumb. With a little research, you can find some Roman senator on a rant about kids these days. The text of the rant will be familiar. My own high school classmates on FB (the few unblocked) love to go on endlessly. I went to school with them. Most were indifferent students. Some were louts only passed on to prevent the school from having to put up with them for another year... yet "kids these days". Most people saying those things are merely repeating things said to them. They cloak themselves in the words to pretend to be important. Actually interesting people in my experience like dealing with younger coworkers - new people, new ideas, and someone who hasn't done it for decades? That's a good day in the office. Share something like the people who came before did for you. /rant

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

I committed a sin today but only feel a little bit bad about it. I'd moved from the 8-16 HE to the 0E bec the HE was a no action game (really unusual for a Friday) when this 08 hand came along:

I limped in after a couple of others w/ A-9-4-3r, couple callers behind including a really loud, nasty lady directly to my left.

Flop: K-8-2r. Checked to me, I bet, only nasty lady calls which is a surprise, tbh.

Turn: Q. I bet bec what the heck and the lady calls.

River: 9. Well, there's only one way to win now so I throw away $16 and the brute starts up w/: 'Are you betting a busted low draw?' I say 'IDK how to answer such tough questions', she mumbles, bumbles and calls.

My sin: I say 'you're going to win' and roll over my hand but she picks up her cards, holds them in front of her so I peek and she's got the A-J-8-3! And proceeds to disgustedly throw her hand away.

This game might be the easiest in the poker room but it's big problem is that the player pool isn't big enough. Saturday's are good though so it's going to be that game all day tomorrow.

Is it a sin to bluff with the best hand?

But, since I don't know if everybody reading this knows it, I'm going to say that you should never say 'You are going to win' if you aren't sure.

And, btw, don't ever muck your hand if you've got any chance at all, no matter how slim you think it is.

You bet with 66 which is actually 6 high due to double paired board. You are called by 55 that didn't notice his pair got counterfeited...

I have zero trivia trophies, but I did get a recreational league championship trophy, as well as a sportsmanship award trophy, both of which I still have, and both of which I got on the same night. Got to stand in two trophy lines that night. My best friend also got the sportsmanship award for his team and was the last name called before mine. I wanted to give him a high five, and I regret not giving him a high five. Years later, we made up for it with a real high five when I got a hole in one on a par 3, which happened to be my lucky number of 147 yards on the scorecard, also which I still have.

Reminds me of pinning up K's for my friend the pitcher in high school. One game he got 7. Luckily we came prepared and had plenty of K's.

----

Regarding the bluffing conversation, I won a checkdown battle a few weeks ago with seven high online, and another with 6 high vs a friend. Both times I had a read that they wouldn't correctly bluff the bottom of their ranges. Without that read, I'd always bluff those hands.

Regarding the kids these days, I remember starting at $2 an hr working for my grandmother in second grade on a regular basis until the age of about 18. She owned a business and taught me a lot about work.

I remember walking to school uphill in the snow of course, but it was only uphill in the morning.

Then again I was known to skip school to go skiing so don't take it from me.

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

Generally speaking the games I play in are full of pretty decent folks. And generally the aholes are pretty easy to spot and ignore. My biggest peeve has to be the decent regs who know better, but just can't find ****ing help themselves from being jackasses.

Case in point, I had to listen to one guy for like 15 minutes have a monologue debate as to who is more atrocious between three really, really bad but regular massive donators in this game. I try to change the subject like five times but he won't stop ranting. Apparently they dropped like $6k between them the day before and he didn't get any of it. And of course one of the donators brother in laws was in the game so I am sure she heard about it.

While this is going on I play a hand where I raise KQcc and another reg 3! AA otb. Flop is KJ6cc and he calls down after the CR. Board bricks out and after I cast roll the river he proceeds to sigh, adjust his headphones, look aimlesslessly away from the table for several seconds, tip the dealer, then turns over his cards one by one. Now this really doesn't bother me, but I do tell him that slowrolling just slows the game down for everyone. He responds by putting his sunglasses on and getting a table change from a great game to a terrible one five minutes later.

Both of these guys play daily. Sheesh.

I don't get it, how is there only one way to win when you have TPTK which can easily be best hand

That is probably the surest way to get someone who thinks he is the best player at the table to go on a rage fueled rant the next day.

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

I played the 8-16 0E today and won $380 in 7 hours. If I outlive my mother I'd be able to OMC that game so easily but it breaks early too often during weekdays. NM the Stud8 play bec that's a different beast that these ppl haven't really studied but when you see the player that's supposed to be one of the better ones limp UTG w/ 9-9-3-2 in 08 that's just ridiculous and they do this all of the time.

One thing that's terrible and can't be stopped: Most of the players talk about the hands in progress. I don't say a thing bec it'd ruin the vibe but if there's a visitor in the game that might become a problem. And the 'analysis' is ridiculous often enough anyway. There was a Stud8 hand, one player's showing A-Q-10-3 and putting in a ton of action on 6th. I put him on pocket Q's bec some Aces were out. After he rolls over Q's full some yo-yo said 'I thought you had trips and a low draw.'

lolololol...........

Yeah that 8-16 OE is a pretty great game. I think it's a lot better than the 8-16 LHE most of the time.

Since I only get to play a couple of days a week it's too bad for me that the Tuesday game breaks early so often.

I've managed to stay away for the last four sessions and it's going to stay that way. Maybe.

If a guy that loses all the time could be considered lucky, I guess that would be me because I feel no compulsion to play blackjack at all. It's a little easier because the rules are so awful these days compared to when I used to play a lot.

Re: 2017 ustakes NC, where the steaks are wafer thin (Low Content Thread)

Angle or legit?

Villain posts missed blinds UTG because gambol. Villain asks who the action is to and asks dealer something and villain unknowingly raises. Two folds. Then villain tries to undo his raise. Villain 2 speaks up and says "chips stay in the pot. There was action behind." Dealer confirms. Then v2 folds. Folds around to hero who is in SB. Looks down at axo and 3bets because BB doesn't have anything and UTG didn't want to raise.

Not an angle by hero. But watch out, because UTG could have actually been angling himself and has a strong hand. Don't know how he would "Accidentally" raise, especially when first to act.

Because he was a drooler who didn't speak English and had no clue that he had to post bb+SB UTG. Also seemed extremely clueless about everything going on. Dealer didn't explain very well, so v1 didn't know and thought he had to put 8 chips in vs Checking.

I much prefer a V2 who does that always instead of one who only insists when he has aces.

This is so true and is so rarely discussed on 2+2.

And in addition to the ranting that callip talks about, I have also seen this cause good players to go on tilt. Specifically, a player will make obviously -EV plays to get into pots against the fish when the player is card dead and needs to be folding. (And when I say obviously -EV plays, I mean obviously -EV plays. I don't mean isolating with perhaps somewhat too weak a hand in position, or something similarly defensible.) It's just ridiculous short term thinking.
