Commerce sounds sketchy, but my company requires us to stay at the DoubleTree so it will be convenient. I will have a car to though so that's not my deciding factor.

It has been a couple years, but I remember a Doubletree that is literally a couple blocks away from Commerce. It wasn't anything to write home about, but was decent and seemed safe (although there was this weird walk through courtyard in the middle of the hotel and I think there is a sketchy outlet mall nearby). I've never had issues at or around Commerce though, so you'll be fine. I'd suggest still driving over and using the valet if you are really that concerned.

Expect the usual gong show whereever you go. I think the games at the Bike are a bit better, but not much of a difference at the low limits.

I have over 350 hours logged at the bike and I've made some friends that I keep in touch with when I'm not there it's a great atmosphere and a great casino

11 racks in 1 session! That takes some rungood no matter where it is, I think my best is around 6.

West Coast traffic starts early because people whose work is attached to financial markets tend to work like 6 am to 3 pm to sync with New York. It also ends late because employers in general offer more flexibility to roll in at 10 am in a T-shirt and flip flops.

If you intend to play 9 pm to 12 am, you have more distant options available. If you get off work at 5 and want to play 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, you may be limited to the absolute closest room.

Google Maps is your friend. Use the "Depart By" function.
Thanks, I'll only be a 1/2 mile from Commerce so it's uber close and the Bike will be too. I'll have to do a work dinner so the 9-12 session would probably be closest to what I'll do, are the further options better?

It looks like both places go from 4-8 to 8-16, is that the norm out there?

Oh good afternoon.

I don't think anyplace in southern CA has 6/12 anymore. I think some of the 4/8 games have a half-kill.

I've never played poker in any LA-area casino, but if I were able to, I'd probably visit Commerce just to see what it was like. It's poker Mecca, with probably Bellagio being poker Medina.

Interesting, sounds like it will be an 8-16 kind of night then.

Play 8/16. There's no 6/12.

Will be back in LA for the first time since I think 2007. Should be at Commerce on Friday from 1-7 or so in the 20 if anyone wants to say hi, I'm good for a beer.

For 6/12 go to NorCal.

I've never played at the Bike, but I remembered being in awe the first time I played at Commerce. The number of tables going on a weeknight was shocking. As was the traffic I sat in to get there at 9pm on a weeknight, lol. You should definitely check out Commerce if you've never been there.

My first reaction to Commerce as well

Commerce it is. I'll be staying there too, so I can squeeze in a little more time. Thanks everyone

I've played in Vegas a few times with Commerce regs. As a result I never want to go to the Commerce. They were all angle-shooting scumbags.

That's one of the attractions!

I have this story: First visit to Commerce to play 20-40 Stud8. Right next to the table was a mike from which the floor called players to games. It had a sign next to it 'players are expected to behave properly, treat the dealers properly' ok that's a paraphrase but you get it. I sat there for a couple of hours in amazement as every.single.player abused each other and the dealers as well. I approached the floor and told him that they had to change the sign. 'What's wrong with it? 'It says not to abuse the other players dealers' 'What's wrong with that?' 'You have to change it to players MUST abuse each and the dealers as well' 'Are players in your game being abusive?' 'Yes' 'Who?' 'Everybody except me' Floor goes to the table and shouts 'Don't abuse anybody!' It didn't work.

You guys really need to try out the bike. I've seen some whining and complaining but the dealer abuse at the bike is almost on par with a non la casino.

The only time that I ever saw a dealer burst into tears was at Commerce.

CAZ did seem to be a Commerce lite, so I guess you're used to it. The times I played there, the whole table wasn't filled with scumbags, there were only 2 or 3. That's still 2 or 3 more than I want to play with.

Talking Stick has a zero tolerance policy regarding dealer abuse.
08-20-2017 , 04:39 PM
canterbury and talking stick have been the two friendliest places i've played in. small sample size though and it's been a few years.
08-20-2017 , 05:19 PM
Maybe Talking Stick is better, but CAZ is the worst place I've ever played.
08-20-2017 , 07:42 PM
All of the above about Commerce. I've played there exactly once and a guy got a 20-minute timeout from the floor for hitting the dealer square in the chest with his cards after getting sucked out on...

Spoiler:
...for something like a $50 pot in 3-6

Place is yooge though, truly a sight to behold. Or at least it was in 2002

Canterbury is where I play 90% of the time so on some level I'm hoping for a table full of scumbags to get the full experience.

There's no 6/12 at Bay101, so probably no.
